TTFF: The Venues of 2012

6.10.11—Camden, NJ (Graham Lucas)

With the announcement of dates, a new excitement is in the air. Phish is, once again, within reach, even if its three plus months away. But in early anticipation of Summer 2012, today’s playlist is comprised of selections from venues that the band will play this summer. Enjoy the multi-era’d retrospective as we fade into the first weekend of March.

Cities -> Good Times Bad Times” 8.10.97 II, Noblesville, IN

The centerpiece of my favorite show ever played at Deer Creek.

Disease -> What’s the Use?” 8.14.10 II, East Troy, WI

A modern-day classic from Alpine Valley 2010, already commemorated on DVD.

Number Line” 6.12.10 II, Cuyahoga Falls, OH

A sinister jam from the second show of tour at Blossom.

Tweezer” 12.28.95 II, Worcester, MA

Phish dropped this big-time “Tweezer” at The Centrum on the opening night of New Year’s Run ’95.

Gumbo” 8.13.97 II, Burgettstown, PA

This version from Star Lake is my favorite “Gumbo” of all time.

It’s Ice”  9.20.00 II, Cincinatti, OH

An out-of-nowhere plunge into psychedelic depths at Riverbend on Phish’s final tour before hiatus.

Sand” 6.19.11 II, Portsmouth, VA

To know this “Sand” is to love it. Every time I listen to this version from nTelos, I like it more and more. Trey absolutely destroys this piece in the context of a whole-band exchange. In my opinion, its the best version of an impressive year of “Sands.”

Reba” 6.2.09 I, Wantagh, NY

Phish dropped this gorgeous “Reba” in the early-evening at Jones Beach on the second night of 2009’s first tour.

Kill Devil Falls > Free” 6.12.09, Manchester, TN

This jam highlighted Phish’s late-night slot at Bonnaroo—the first of two performances.

Walls > Bowie” 6.19.04 I, Saratoga Springs, NY

The otherworldly second set of this SPAC show has always overshadowed this demonic combo from the first.

thx @Silly. i’ll try to hit the show.

you listening to Smoke Ring for My Halo @MiA?

  2. Jtran Says:

Short notice perhaps, but for those of you in the northeast into the psybient/psytrance stuff Miner dropped a long while back this festival is most definitely for you

Look like it is, literally, at a resort in Monticello, NY. All inclusive meal/room/festival ticket packages can be had. Seems like an amazing set up for some great music.

Wishing I could go, but that’s the weekend we start driving west.

  3. SillyWilly Says:

    Good luck, garretc

You’ll be able to stretch it out and like I said I’m happy to help if you need it

My personal favorite moment in law and economics history is the Hand Formula by Judge Learned Hand

  4. garretc Says:

I don’t know if we’ve discussed the Hand Formula yet… Is his name actually “Learned Hand”? That’s just… astounding if so.

We did talk about the “case of the hairy hand,” which is supposedly a common one in law school. Hawkins v. McGee

Thanks for your well wishes and offer of aid!

  5. Mike in Austin Says:

    Yeah Tela’s. Good stuff.

  6. gavinsdad Says:

El dude – the baby growing path is fraught with worry. hope you make it out ok today. my wife failed the spina bifida test for two kids. with our first we had to go to this place in nyc with the super sonogram to look at spine formation. we got 3 pretty healthy kids and even with my daughters latest fake-out you just do what you gotta do. i dont get religious but i feel blessed as hell with my brood considering many of the hardships and health issues out there (and on here for that matter…couple BB dads going the EXTRA mile…makes some of my stuff look minor in retrospect…much love to you guys)

as far as phish goes…stoked to see some music in june (and hopefully aug)

  7. angryjoggerz Says:

GD speaks the truth. Welcome to the worry train. If you find a moment to not be worried about your kid, ever, let me know.

  8. SillyWilly Says:

    That’s his real name.

And yeah I remember the hairy hand case. I can’t remember why I learned it. It was for torts or contracts wasn’t it?

Man, I’m gonna have to teach myself all that shit again to take the bar. A dark path awaits me

  9. gavinsdad Says:

sorry for talking work here but our Austin/SXSW tumblr is live and our schedule of events at SXSW is front and center…check it as you might find some new bands to research:

  10. Mr.Miner Says:

no need to worry. Just trust in the universe and do your best.

  11. SillyWilly Says:

    Strength all you dads

The older I get the more I realize I how tough it must be to be a parent. I can’t even take care of myself

So I really respect you guys

  12. tela'smuff Says:

AJ and GD speak the truth.

@Gdad, is that lineup for Urban Outfitters what you’re referencing?

pretty nice little showcase. i have a secret thing for Nite Jewel. like her music. also picked up Young Magic, Peaking Lights, and Dustin Wong, but haven’t listened yet.

  13. angryjoggerz Says:

I dont trust the universe at all. Seems sneaky.

  14. Mr. Palmer Says:

Lou Reed’s birthday today. One bad ass mofo.

  15. SillyWilly Says:

I think its really cool how the dads are able to love their kids so much and then love all of us too

I always thought that kids would be more like love consumers but clearly (based off knowing you guys) kids are love enhancers

  16. alf Says:

great selection of tunes today, miner

what a sick numberline. gonna see if tela’s will drunk dial me later to discuss his epic front row interpretive dance moves that pushed this one off the edge.

  17. purplehumpbackwhale Says:

this is fuckin awesome, and new

  18. kenny powers Says:

Lou Reed and David Byrne might be my two favorite vocalist musical personalities. Namely, because they grunt and scream and utter silly shit sometimes (Byrne moreso).

  19. Mr. Palmer Says: thinks everything is a tease, don’t they? Pretty neat though.

    Thats like porn for Tela’s.

  20. purplehumpbackwhale Says:

@garretc – i know nothing about your project but an interesting occurance in the history of u.s. law is the Twinkie Defense. possibly the most embarrasing thing ever to happen on behalf of the DoJ. the movie MILK somehow doesn’t touch on this but, that guy who killed Harvey Milk and one other man… well i’ll let you read about it.

or you can just listen to the Dead Kennedy’s version of “I Fought the Law” and it should sum it all up

  21. tela'smuff Says:

i’ve got your number Alf. consider it done.

you all should thank me for that Numberline. 😯

  22. tela'smuff Says:

oops. yeah, saw that Mr. P. need to dig in to the teases. i swear Mike teases You Dropped a Bomb on Me by The Gap Band at the end of the Superball Golden Age.

i’ve got my tissues and lube ready to go.

  23. purplehumpbackwhale Says:

combing that tease chart i found something i allllways wondered why they havent done. but i guess they have!

Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough Michael Jackson 1996-12-31 PYITE

whenever i play PYITE with my friends at home i always tease this.

  24. Mr. Palmer Says:

    Ha! Hysterical.

For instance re: Has Dave’s Energy Guide really been teased 9 times in 3.0?

  25. alf Says:

all i ask is that you’re drunk off some colorado/west coast deliciousness that i can’t get round here, like pliny or o’dells
