TTFW: The Abstract

6.25.10—Camden, NJ (Graham Lucas)

Ghost” 9.12.99 II, Portland, OR

One of the most slept on jams of all time. Don’t sleep.

Bathtub Gin -> Simple” 12.7.99 II, Portland, ME

Phish returned to Cumberland Country Civic Center during December ’99, an era where ambient jams were prominent.

Jam -> Bug” 12.17.99 II, Hampton, VA

Though it sure felt like the Mothership was about to lift-off into “2001,” but the band teased everyone by dropping into “Bug.” This jam was the music behind the Hampton reunion announcement video.

Waves” 8.2.03 II, Limestone, ME

The magic fields of Limestone…

Twist” 2.24.03 II, E.Rutherford, NJ

Aliens visited The Meadowlands.

AC/DC Bag” 11.7.98 II, Chicago, IL

This gorgeous jam from UIC illustrates the ambient shift of Fall ’98.

Drowned” 9.14.2000 II, Darien Center, NY

Forget about it—a true monster.

Roses Are Free” 1.1.00, Big Cypress, FL

The music that dawned a new millenium; the cerebral masterpiece from the end of an all-night marathon.

My Left Toe,  Stash” 6.30.99 II, Bonner Springs. KS

Phish paired the debut of “My Left Toe” with “Stash” to close the second set of  1999’s very first show.

totally MiA, i’m happy w/ my FiiO e7 unit. Although since my 2010 model iMac has a pretty darn nice sound card i’m not benefitting as much as someone with, say, an entry level 2004 HP or something.

  2. tela'smuff Says:

i’ve got nothing to add lately. just saying what up.

totally focused on tour at this point. after i bust out the Marvel Movie Marathon tomorrow, then tour.

Chip is truly great guy. He ran Energy when I had the Pulp and Paper group. But there is a lot of Energy in Pulp and Paper, so we worked together alot.

Scottish by family, and when we went out to dinner, he would order two triple scotches from the waitress so she didn’t have to walk back and forth so much.

    Everyone knows Chip.

I bought my ticket for the 7:30pm showing of Avengers Friday night. Pumped.

Gotta bounce, peace y’all. Gonna put in a pathetically short stint on the treadmill before resuming my first-ever viewing of Twin Peaks. On episode 4 of season 1. Shit is brilliant.

  5. MiA Says:

KP, your iMac has an optical mini output out of the headphone jack. I use a TOS-link cable to go to my amplifier optical in, and it works great. Plug headphones into my “full sized” amp.

You just need the TOSlink cable.

    I think I paid $8 for mine.

  6. BingosBrother Says:

Chip Caray is the worst Chip of all.

10-21-95 Reba is my shit. Great show and Reba is one of my favorites.

  8. MiA Says:

    That’s a great Reba BBrother.

Firing up right now. The St. Paul Reba 4 days later on my Birthday was fantastic.

  9. MiA Says:

Opening with Set I with a Tweezer Reprise, definitely lifts the concert up right out of the gate.

  10. [Not Tom] Says:

^ Fox Theater, Atlanta Fall 1995, 3-Night Run, opened with Tweeprise. Set that place on Fiyo.

  11. MiA Says:

Bought tickets for David Wilcox tomorrow at the World Theatre here. Great show for those who know the NC Guitarist Singer/Songwriter

Dry goods sells the kevork’d CDs (& just had a fab sale too). Those are pre packaged retail cds bought in bulk & stored in a warehouse.

LP must be organized as a seperate biz unit from dry goods. also, pretty sure the LP cds are printed on demand, likely under contract with a different cd manufacturer than the retail cds sold at dry goods

Thus it’s likely that the biz contracts (for now) prohibit LP from selling kevor’d cds

    What’s cracking, BB?

Pretty stoked for tomorrow morning’s When Roots Attack. I’m going to have Ryan Moore aka Twilight Circus along with my friend and favorite US-based dubbist, McPullish, in the studio.

They’re bringing tunes(!) and among other things I’ll chat them up about their (super) recent collaboration project that they’ve been working on for the last week or so at McPullish’s Austin studio. (Well, it’s actually a little south of Austin in Buda… close enough.)

I don’t know what they’re going to bring for the show but Twilight has some crazy uber-rare dub plates….

great discussion today. Wish I could add more but I am working. Stupid work.

For me it has come down to this lately: The more I dig into my complaints about the world or the government or whatever, I find that they are really complaints about myself. The more that I deal with my complaints about myself, the less that I worry about ‘the world’.

Itunes def plays 24 bit files. you may have to update your itunes to do so. but not every ipod will play 24 bit files

also, flac & alac are simply storage formats

16 & 24 bits describe the amount of info captured from a “slice of audio frozen at a single moment in time”. Larger bits capture more data, and thus more music, thereby improving the quality of playback on an appropriate system

  16. sumodie Says:

From the above link i posted:

“1. Recording at 24/96 yields greatly increased audio resolution-over 250 times that at 16/44.1

    2. Recording at 24/96 takes up roughly 3 1/4 times the space than recording at 16/44.1”

December 99 was indeed a good time to be at a Phish show (and Jan 00 🙂 ) Gin>Simple, Jam>Bug confirmed. Onto Roses.

Been feeling a little weird about getting older lately so some of these tunes are bittersweet

  18. sumodie Says:

Bader field has a work exchange program for those who wanna attend & are willing to work for their ticket

scroll down for ‘work exchange team’ info:

  19. [Not Tom] Says:

@ sumo – thanks for all the info. That is very helpful.

  20. garretc Says:

More like “wook exchange team,” amirite?

  21. lumpyhead Says:

just guffawed out loud at work @GarretC

  22. sumodie Says:

8.17.10 BDTNL is indeed worthy. one of the few phish jams left on my pod for emergency purposes

    like today!

  23. snowbank Says:

The thing with 24/96 is that the difference is very small unless you have at least an external DAC like a FIIO. Some amps with 24/96 inputs have pretty nice DACs. But playing 24/96 off a computer headphone jack is a waste cause of all of the machine noise. has lots of good info… and it will make you feel very poor.
