TTFW: Late ’90s Grab Bag

12.28.11 - MSG (Graham Lucas)

Runaway Jim” 7.31.97 II, Mountain View, CA

Jammed out “Jims” where have you gone?

Tweezer” 8.1.98 II, East Troy, WI

Can never get enough of the Alpine “Tweeze”…

Ghost” 7.3.97 II, Nuremburg, GR

Euro ’97 “Ghosts” were slow, funky and exploratory, as Phish honed their new jam vehicle before coming stateside.

Bathtub Gin” 10.1.99 I, Ames, IA

A first set smoker from the heartland in ’99. We came out to a smashed window and many things stolen from our car before the all-night drive to Minneapolis. Fuckin’ wooks…

Reba” 8.14.96 I, Hershey, PA

A stunning version from a Summer ’96.

Stash” 9.9.99 I, Vancouver, BC

A psychedelic trek from Fall ’99’s first set.

2001” 7.7.99 II, Charlotte, NC

One of ’99’s top versions.

Mike’s Song” 12.2.97 II, Philadelphia, PA

This version needs no introduction—funk warfare.

Piper > Guy Forget” 10.1.00 II, Phoenix, AZ

The first bust-out of “Guy Forget” after being a piece of soundcheck lore for years.

Weekapaug Groove” 4.3.98 I, Uniondale, NY

My favorite “Weekapaug” to date.

    Morning BBers!

Thanks for the tunes @Miner. @alf, agreed, heavy hitters indeed.

  13. Type III Jamming Personality Disorder Says:

I could live in this tweezer; it is so… comfortable.

  14. Ouish Says:

Wow! Thanks for playing some of my favorite memories! Shoreline 97, the night before Jerry G’s birthday, with Trey saying how they were going to keep the spirit alive into the next decade and beyond. Also a Happy Birthday tease for Jer in Weekapaug. Hershey 96, a very under rated show with incredible jams throughout. Great opener of Wilson>DWD with Wilson taken out to a Mike led jam. Love the Tweezer and YEM from that night as well. DEG in the Tweez?? I was in a state of mind that I thought the band was telling us in the YEM vocal jam that the aliens were gonna land at Plattsburg. The Mike’s from the Spectrum is exactly that. Funk warfare! Coming off the amazing Worcester shows, they had a head steam that kept right on going! Like I said, some great memories! Thanks Miner!!

been on a dub and derrick jensen diet for the last week

picked up both parts of his Endgame the other day

    can’t put it down

  18. Mr palmer Says:

Thanks to Selector J , it looks like I won 2 tickets to see Scratch Perry tomorrow night in NYc.

    Anyone Bber wanna go?

  19. SillyWilly Says:

I’ve also been listening to the Linton Kwesi Johnson Album “A Cappella Live”

which is him reading his poems without the backing dub

really fun to listen to him read it and then to listen to the track

he’s a genius in the sound of words

he hardly even needs a band he creates such a lyrical quality in his language

  20. kayatosh Says:

I have taken up residence in 12.6.97 tweezer. comfortable, spacious. exciting.

  21. SillyWilly Says:

    woah, Mr. P

By the way, I had a dream last night that I was talking to you (Mr. P) and Barry Alvarez at a football game about Phish.

It was weird. Barry Alvarez had taken a job as the linebacker coach at Kentucky and they were ranked 9th in the nation.

but apparently Bar loved the Phish in my unconscious

  22. Phamily Berzerker Says:

    MiA, that’s a paddlin

  23. dorn76 Says:

Hershey ’96 Reba! Sweet picks, Miner.

Rode west from Boston to Hershey with my girl (eventually became the wife) in her teal Jeep Cherokee, GD and Phish stickers covering the back bumper.

Fun show, very mellow just being solo with my lady. Only other time ever we went without a crew was the Great Went, which was her last show until MSG 2011.

And she loved the 30th. First set, too. Women.

  24. SillyWilly Says:

I always laugh at the thought of paddlin MiA

Once you get a big MiA show-grin, you’ll only want to stop and smile with him

plus, him and his wife make an absolutely formidable comedy routine. Very in tune with each other, their relationship is fun for everyone

  25. SillyWilly Says:

i gotta bounce. see ya, kids!
