TTFW: Late ’90s Grab Bag

12.28.11 - MSG (Graham Lucas)

Runaway Jim” 7.31.97 II, Mountain View, CA

Jammed out “Jims” where have you gone?

Tweezer” 8.1.98 II, East Troy, WI

Can never get enough of the Alpine “Tweeze”…

Ghost” 7.3.97 II, Nuremburg, GR

Euro ’97 “Ghosts” were slow, funky and exploratory, as Phish honed their new jam vehicle before coming stateside.

Bathtub Gin” 10.1.99 I, Ames, IA

A first set smoker from the heartland in ’99. We came out to a smashed window and many things stolen from our car before the all-night drive to Minneapolis. Fuckin’ wooks…

Reba” 8.14.96 I, Hershey, PA

A stunning version from a Summer ’96.

Stash” 9.9.99 I, Vancouver, BC

A psychedelic trek from Fall ’99’s first set.

2001” 7.7.99 II, Charlotte, NC

One of ’99’s top versions.

Mike’s Song” 12.2.97 II, Philadelphia, PA

This version needs no introduction—funk warfare.

Piper > Guy Forget” 10.1.00 II, Phoenix, AZ

The first bust-out of “Guy Forget” after being a piece of soundcheck lore for years.

Weekapaug Groove” 4.3.98 I, Uniondale, NY

My favorite “Weekapaug” to date.

The thing I enjoy about our gracious host’s selections is that he nearly always seems to drop a tune from a show I attended.

Mind you I have been seeing the band for 22 yrs but have a low count as I have made some choices…

    Gracias, Señor Miner!

for those who snoozed on these:

May 11, 2012 Spiritualized show at the 9:30 Club, Wash DC (NPR broadcast)

July 25, 2008 Spiritualized show – also NPR broadcast

both are untracked single filesets downloaded directly from NPR -only spun the newest show and it’s awesome

now back to your regularly scheduled paddlin’…

  7. lumpyhead Says:

yes MiA and Mrs. MiA are awesome!

  8. MiA Says:

    Love a good endorsement. Thanks.

  9. sumodie Says:

You seem to love a good paddlin too

  10. MiA Says:

T3 is right. I could live in this Tweezer.

I put on this ’98 Alpine Tweezer on as a poncho, and I look damn handsome in it. It is very comfortable. Big and Tall. And not Sears.

Alpine ’98 should be released as a Kevorkian. Assuming today’s is the SBD (sweet sounding) I would pay for this.

Thanks for the tunes Mr. Miner. You are a great man sir.

  11. MiA Says:

I love paddlin’ the school canoe.

  12. MiA Says:

You can definitely kill chickens to this Stash. Get’s all “True Blood” sounding to me.

  13. Type III Jamming Personality Disorder Says:

    And not Sears.

did yours come with zircon-encrusted tweezers? mine did.

  14. Jtran Says:

    Morning comrades

  16. Mr. Palmer Says:

some classic bombs being dropped by Miner on this Wednesday. Damn.

Only one’s i’ve seen live are the Hershey Reba and the Nassau Week.

Heard all of them though, with the exception of that Ames Gin.. Looking forward to it.

Fuckin’ Cyclone Wooks. Never trusted Herky the Hawk. Looks pissed off. Very unmellow.

Could have been a Gopher Wooks too I guess. Even a Hawkeye wook.

It’s a 3 1/2 hour drive from Ames to Minneapolis. Miner was driving 30 miles an hour due to lack of window. I bet it was cold as shit at night in that car too.

    re: Scratch in NYC
Nice! Glad that worked, @Mr. P. You’ll have a blast.

If you’re within earshot of Scratch, ask him about “Eenie Meanie Tekel” and “Jesse the Hammer” for me.

DISCLAIMER: No idea what Eenie Meanie Tekel is all about (some kind of prankster spirit, I think) but Jesse The Hammer is his nickname for Jesus seeing as how he’s the son (step-son?) of a carpenter.

Very cool article re: psychedelics I posted above. Just sayin’…

Awesome selector! Thanks again . Trying to get Bobby Dylan to join me

What are his shows like these days. Anyone seen him last 5 years?

  25. dorn76 Says:

Def, @voopa. Probably should’ve asked some BB’ers before going and doing all that pricey research.
