THE SLOPING COMPANION ESSAY CONTEST

Robert Champion of The Sloping Companion is running an essay contest for those that “Like” The Sloping Companion Facebook Page. The winner will win a recycled/upcycled wood art piece. All anyone has to do to enter is write a short, two-to-three paragraph essay about why they are so passionate about Phish. The contest is running for about two weeks and the winner will have their piece aired on the show, will be on the station, and will win a specially-created, one of a kind art piece.

SPD, Silly? I assume S_____ Public Defenders, but clearly I’m not sure about the first bit there…

  2. SillyWilly Says:

    tate

  3. joe Says:

    ocialist

  4. garretc Says:

Ah, gartcha. As in Wisconsin state?

  5. MiA Says:

So that’s no longer the case, MiA?

I was trying to suggest that those SBDs may have prompted me to quit my job and go on tour.

At least in 1996-8, I didn’t really sit at my desk listening to music through my headphones being played out of iTunes, or being beamed across the internet into my mind. I engaged more with folks here.

I kept the headphones off. Talked to my bosses. Schmoozed. Got promoted, etc.

Now I am a music absorbing mushroom in my office.

    TT anyone?

  6. MiA Says:

I’m slow Garret. Yes, I am still trying to keep my job.

  7. SillyWilly Says:

    yeah, Garret

    gonna be a cheesehead, hopefully.

  8. xpun Says:

just finished the rcmh ghost myself. something a little extra special about it today. also just sang happy bday to my 12 year old – a few days late- but crazy to think its been that long since these shows and 1.0 starting to wind down. lots of life between

    anyways…
mike killls those first 6 or so minutes. unreal work. as trey came in with his solo, i was thinking about miner’s musical density posts. maybe they can get to the meat of the jams quicker these days, but those long drawn out journeys are so much fun.

  9. MiA Says:

Good luck Silly. Sounds like the first interview went well? Sounds like you have 1/2 of it ready to go.

  10. SillyWilly Says:

    Thanks, MiA

this waiting for the call back is tough.

    I think it went well

my boss from the summer was one of my interviewers and he told me he really wanted me in the office, but I don’t know if he has the final word

    state bureaucracy and all that

I have only done a few real interviews in my life, so I just don’t know if I did well or not.

I felt relaxed and confident. And, I’ve done everything I could in law school to demonstrate that I want to be a public defender and I had good references (including one of the two people interviewing me. that’s gotta count for something, right?)

  11. xpun Says:

was thinking earlier if there was any way to do livephish and still no spoilers. i’m so pumped for tour and would hate to have to wait and miss out on the chat on the bb following the shows waiting for the upload the next morn.

sounds like the answer is a well placed piece of paper. nice wilson

    mia- im tting now

  12. Angryjoggerz Says:

SW, did they dig your AC flatbrim and tie dye chuck Taylor’s?

  13. MiA Says:

I think having someone being your advocate is 90% of it. Especially if they’ve worked with you before. They are your character reference, and that’s a lot of the fight when getting the new job.

You’re a very charismatic smart guy, I’m sure you nailed the interview.

  14. lumpyhead Says:

    I miss you guys.

To answer your question, Wilson, the band will in fact open up HOTTER than they did last year.

    It will be crazy.

  15. SillyWilly Says:

    Haha, AJ

I looked like a proper little attorney with a haircut and beard trim

you’d never smell the wook underneath…

    @MiA

    thanks, man.
would be perfect if I could land the job.

    ill keep everyone updated.

  16. [an unrelated] Wilson Says:

    good answer Lumpy.

as for my paper shield technique, it’s not too hard if you know your way around the live phish interface. just do your best to look at only what you need to see. sometimes certain titles jump out at you, but I can usually get the show into itunes without seeing 90% of it. sometimes i nail it and see nothing. 🙂

  17. Angryjoggerz Says:

I am so looking forward to hanging with you crazy freaks this summer. Let’s make this count.

  18. Angryjoggerz Says:

I’m doing cinci>starlake>blossom, Av and Dicks. Hit me up for chuckles.

(or click my name to download from my mediafire folder)

I grabbed this off the ‘noid. Not true lossless sound quality tho the files are apple lossless (ALAC) format & ready for itunes. Sound quality is good. Seun’s Coachella performances were a shortened version of his regular recent tour thus only 5 tracks here. Can ya dig it?

  21. MiA Says:

Cincy Starlake Blossom is the heart of the matter. I like it.

  22. xpun Says:

silly – if the guy interviewing you is one of your references, i’d think you’re good

when i was a freshman in hs we went to a party at this kids house who’s parents were out of town. drank a bunch -for us then- started rooting around his parents room, found their porn stash and his mom had this old school dildo that you plugged into the wall. i spent the next little bit chasing this other kid around the house swing the dildo by the power cord and hitting him with it.

and now to point—– my first interview ever, was a few months later, food service job at a retirement home. i was 14 nervous etc etc. the lady interviewing me is the kid’s mom who’s dildo i was swinging around. could not get the picture out of my head. was trying so hard not to laugh. never been nervous in an interview since

  23. SillyWilly Says:

I had to tell a 5 minute story during my interview, Bingo’s, and that’s the story I told.

  24. BingosBrother Says:

You are one crazy motherfucker White Sock Willy. Congrats on the new job.

  25. Gavinsdad Says:

Bingos – leaving the Midwest for shows this Summer or you doin the heartland shuffle?
