Stein’s Shots: Best of Leg One

“Steam” – 6.30.12, East Troy, WI

Michael Stein is one of the premiere concert photographers on the scene today. With an impeccable sense of the moment, Stein captures priceless portraits of his subjects time and time again. It just so happens that he is also a huge Phish fan. Hitting the road with the band for most of Leg One, Stein has hand selected a 38-shot gallery that represents his favorite shots of 2012 to share with Phish Thoughts today. I want to personally thank Michael for sharing his work with this site for over three years, and here’s to future collaboration! This post provides a preview, but be sure to CLICK OVER to view the rest of his Leg One gallery!

Spaz is hittin shinnecock on Monday. Terrified of the fescue and a minor tendency to pull drives left. Just hit the range and hit em as well as I can. That could be he kiss of death. Millais said if he was really striping it on the range he would leave so he wouldn’t use up all his great shots. 15 handicapper here. BB Open at Berhpage before next summers JB?

Please let me keep pretending that great jam isn’t ruined by Broadway

Shit is terrible. Better than Oklahoma maybe. But still makes my ears scream in pain if exposed to.

Fela was great though. I’m just hating. That’s what I do.

Don’t knock broadway until you’ve seen the Lion King tripping balls…I heard its great.

I’m trying to learn golf. Thought I was a decent athlete, but shit is hard. Maybe 2013 tour, if all goes well.

Any of you hippies have any thoughts on an electric mower. Have about half an acre, bit of an uneven hill in back. I like the idea of no gas no pollution and being able to hear my jamz better.

  11. tzara's Says:

@phoammy, SEA is nice, lots of good beer and catch some wine harvest while you’re at it. An idea.

  12. phoammhead Says:

xpun . . . electric for a small grassy area to mow sounds good . . . no gas, no oil, no spark plugs, etc. never owned or used an electric mower though. had an electric weedeater once and liked it okay.

Phoamm. Domestic or international? I’d say Dominican or costa rica if just looking to relax. But I’d go in jan or feb to get away from nc winter. I think hurricane season is still in during the fall.

  16. phoammhead Says:

trying for international . . . yeah, we’re looking hard at carribean and central america . . . yeah, we’re seeing that hurricane season runs through nov. we want a safe environ . . . don’t want to be too reckless for this trip that we’re just now planning.

  17. Xpun Says:

We went just south of playa del Carmen in Mexico in nov 10. Perfect weather lots of fun. Mayan ruins were amazing. Lot less time on that trip with our feet up though but still a blast. Most of the crime in Mexico is in the north near the border.

I’ve heard good things about Belize but never been.

Just back from Smuggler’s Notch, dropping off our Australian houseguests for their flight home on the drive back.

Funny TIII is talking climbing anchors. The wife and smallest went on a 2 mile hike up to the pond (a frog jumped on Rosie’s head!), while guests, Calvin, and I barely got 50 yards away from the parking lot because there were 15 lovely bouldering problems within arms reach from any spot off the tarmac.

Funny how you’ll skip the side-lying flake with the endless money holds on a 15 foot ascent just because the ground has 2″ stumps all over it. Gotta plan for the landing. Risk Management. Calvin meanwhile kept finding cool caves I could barely fit through that opened up onto sheer cliffs. Boy’s going to give me a heart attack.

My calluses are like iron. I should play guitar! but my hands barely close, my grip is shot, and my wrists are like pflaughhhh. So maybe not.

Left my 10-3-99 pair for rosemont on the coffee table in va. Gave them to my ex to put in her bag. Cannonball run for my friends Bday show so I wasn’t taking anything along. Got to lot found out no tix. Luckily weren’t sold out.

  23. Xpun Says:

Can’t remember a thing about that show except they played Bowie and guests for encore.

One of the best sunsets I ever saw driving up through the mts of west va the night before though. Etched in my brain. Worth double admission

got a large headache from staring at this screen searching for a vaca . . . two ibu’s and my third ipa should do the trick

Phoamm – CR is beautiful but starting to ramp up in tourism population, check out further south in Nicaragua for some super chill spots, just look for surf camps and stay around them. Been to CR and loved it but 10 years ago, have heard nothing but positives about the Nicaragua coastline.

Have a good friend who lives N Coast of DR around Encuentro, super chill but also pretty local – don’t know much about the tourista areas.
