Stein’s Shots: Best of Leg One

“Steam” – 6.30.12, East Troy, WI

Michael Stein is one of the premiere concert photographers on the scene today. With an impeccable sense of the moment, Stein captures priceless portraits of his subjects time and time again. It just so happens that he is also a huge Phish fan. Hitting the road with the band for most of Leg One, Stein has hand selected a 38-shot gallery that represents his favorite shots of 2012 to share with Phish Thoughts today. I want to personally thank Michael for sharing his work with this site for over three years, and here’s to future collaboration! This post provides a preview, but be sure to CLICK OVER to view the rest of his Leg One gallery!

the frankie sez light > ghost is my favorite pairing of leg 1. so easy to listen to. the jam takes you there with out you realizing IT and then bam… ghost and that ghost is like the cool whip on strawberries. gets a little psycho killer driven by ftroy, ish and mike right at 5:25 crowd goes wild, great moment

troy dropping those franie sez licks at 8:30 is sublime listening.

I’m pretty good about not calling peeps by their BB handles in person, but it’s gonna be hard to not say “Plamer” when the time comes.

  5. phoammhead Says:

not sure, but looks like that long putter was riding up into scott’s throat region

  6. Robear Says:

    Who the fuck is “Plamer”?!

  7. MiA Says:

    Scott Adams epic meltdown.

Re-listened to Albany 09’s Seven Below > Ghost, Cool it Down late last night after spinning Velvet Underground vinyl for most of the night.

All was not lost in 09, for me that remains near the top of 3.0 Phish…

  11. phoammhead Says:

yeah, feel bad for scott . . . long putters are for sissies, though

  12. MiA Says:

Yeah. Els didn’t win. Scott lost. Too bad.

aj- I took that compilation out for a spin yesterday as per your post. Very much enjoyed. Even sent it to a couple of friends. Thanks!

  15. vegas wolfmans Says:

noob question: When I pull a compilation like that into itunes, is there a good way to get it to all stay together. Typically, I make a playlist with albums (such as the instrumental hip-hop mix) containing various artists. Is there a better way to do it? I’m OCD with my music collection like that…

  16. MiA Says:

Nice comp AJ. Gonna download and listen today

  17. Robear Says:

Was that guy, Scott, the leader after yesterday? I saw his post round interview. He totally jinxed himself. Said something like ‘I don’t have to play great golf now, I just have to play well and not screw up’

I turned to my dad and said ‘that guy just lost’

  18. MiA Says:

True robear. I think he took a Valium or Xanax or something, and was too flat.

Nerves are everything in that sport. Super Fine motor skills coupled to 100 swing thoughts.

Vimeo twist on. Don’t like it when the editors get “too” creative.

  19. sumodie Says:

Light>paug far more inseparable than paug > -7

That light/paug mashup overloads my serotonin system ever time i spin it

av light is in third place for me behind Lighteca & Starlake’s

but it still is a fine example of hot PH!!!

  20. MiA Says:

Love the crowd shots at the end.

1 dude is getting off on the rail. 94 other people look confused as fuck.

    I wanna meet that dude.

@type III consider music in a language you don’t know for test taking. Something about how our brains process language or lack thereof in this case. I enjoy Brazilian or Japanese.

It’s also dawning on me that I need to catch some leg 2 shows. Debating between southern run, dicks or my local bill graham. The later seems to be the toughest ticket. Stl through dicks seems most interesting to me.

  23. ThePigSong Says:

Star Lake Light wins by a mile over AV for me. Not going to compare Ghost v Paug, cause that’d just be silly.

  24. Mr. Palmer Says:

    dusty- serious question:

Why doesn’t BGCC interest you more? I understand its hometown and all that. Seems that most people are going gaga over those shows. I find it interesting that someone from there isn’t that keen on the shows. Think they will fall prey to the overhyped machine? Does the venue suck?

I’m not going regardless, but i am curious as to your thoughts.

  25. ThePigSong Says:

Could this Sirius show turn into a weekly thing Mr M? I’d probably get a subscription for a few hours a week of han picked jams + commentary. I’ve been eeally enjoying the TypeII casts this summer.
