Stein’s Shots: Best of Leg One
Michael Stein is one of the premiere concert photographers on the scene today. With an impeccable sense of the moment, Stein captures priceless portraits of his subjects time and time again. It just so happens that he is also a huge Phish fan. Hitting the road with the band for most of Leg One, Stein has hand selected a 38-shot gallery that represents his favorite shots of 2012 to share with Phish Thoughts today. I want to personally thank Michael for sharing his work with this site for over three years, and here’s to future collaboration! This post provides a preview, but be sure to CLICK OVER to view the rest of his Leg One gallery!

pig- me too. star lake light > AV light.
RT @JAHphone: Highlight of All Good – CK5 confirms a NYE run at MSG – says fav show this tour was N1 SPAC #Phish
Miner’s got a wealth of topshelf PH to pick from for his jam on show. In the end it won’t really matter which of the best lights, ghosts, sands, and golden ages he picks from
even now my 3rd fav Light, from AV, is calling me to give it another spin
and i keep forgetting to give more love to fuckfee
Jesus, can i stop looping the cinci twist now? Is 3 hours enough?
Blasting through my 4.0 playlist, traveling North with many hours to kill in metro. McGrupp spoke to me for the first time in the Creek version. Serene.
Star Lake Light wins despite Dropping the most spine shattering whale call of the summer, which testifies to how strong those last few sections are. (spine shattering = bad)
@mr p. too easy of a place to let your expectations get too high with the history of the venue and town. Most likely I’ll make either Friday or Sunday of SF. Depends if I have to call in a favor for a tic I guess.
Had a dream last night phish played boreal ala dead 85. Highest phish ever. What is the highest elevation show anyway? Off for some wake skating and free music on the beach.
No real stand out Reba so far, or am I missing one? About to take the av one fr a spin.
^^ thoughts out on the page: being AZ-based. i opted for the St.L>OKC>Dicks run over LBC>SanFran myself. can only make one run or the other and good friends will be at both… i’m sure LBC>BGCA will be a stellar run. but i’m psyched for the late leg finish. some reasons why…
* crowd preference: looking forward to the midwest vibe, a bit more of a traveling tour scene, and the summer finale meetups vs. so cal (meh) and nor cal (more heady than i care for this year, that being said, the Greek was great)
* tix easier, cheaper lodging, easy travel logistics
* something different: midwest indoor ga sleeper show >
first time playing the state at historic amphitheater >
closing run of summer, outdoor ga with space galore for dancing and meetups!
* last but not least: band getting better and better — the musical culmination of tour…
again, only because i can choose. otherwise, anything i could hit would be all good…
Can’t fault any of that logic @ dusty and Bwana.

*Fire with Showboat teases (old man river would crush)
I am no longer comparing any music I was not at. Too many things going on that can’t be caught on tape. If you’re there and looking, you’ll find it. God Particles and what not. 😉
lol at harpua with funny girl teases encore. would the phish universe ever be the same?
Yeah, I was gonna do “Ocelot[2]”
[2] Cat’s Teases
Etc. for all of them. Somehow a “Springtime for Hitler” quote in the middle of Sneaking Sally would probably be fine with me.
Then I was worried CK5 might read this and tell the band. Gotta be careful.
Looks like they still “owe” us 4 Vimeo vids. Jb2 and the Spac run.
Too bad that dumb “Marco!” stuff popped up again during the JB ‘Lope. That nonsense throws the whole band off, then the run, run, run part gets messed up. Otherwise.. great version.
Hopefully they’re taking extra time with the SPAC1 Sally, SPAC2 Gin, and SPAC3 Piper.
That they did “Mule” instead of “Light > Groove” kinda bummed me out.
Kinda hoping for JB2 to have Susskind Hotel.
That would be cool @ Mia. Tmwsiy i would gladly accept also.
People getting fired up.
^this time I have a few weeks of life in between now and SF including a our family summer vacation in the wilderness part of cape cod. But I don’t wanna rush SF….savor my days between now and then.
All I want from SF is no drama, some beauty sleep and a band that wants to play. Everything else should fall in place.
AV fuckfee, crosseyed >> farmhouse makes for siiick shady forest jogging
As a cohesive whole, crosseyed > no quarter > light > ghost packs a hella thematic
…hella thematic punch
Light > ghost, for me, elevates even more when spun with this foursome
dripping sweat, smartphone bummed, lol
dick’s or bgca, whateverz, either are the right choice
Add 46 Days and you’d be sprinting home sumo. Fierce version. agree on that quartet being thematic. HOF lineup.
15th anniversary of Walnut Creek calls for a viewing of the DVD tonight
So maybe AV light is my #2 fav instead of #3 fav
or maybe I’ll stop ranking them 😯
What would JCS do?
::cues cinci twist::
I was satisfied, but sucks they ended that set the way they did. Just add Slave to the end and its a best set in 3.0 contender. regardless, best set I’ve heard.
Walnut Creek segue is the most unbelievable thing I’ve ever seen. Like a miracle.
