the question is do we spend the next few years wondering what happened at dick’s like we did with the gorge 09 or do they start delivering more consistently next year??

  2. plord Says:

Gorge 09 Sally is still a monster with multiple high points. It will not be denied.

All the same I’m spinning Dick’s again right now.

where does one draw the line at trivial?…maybe those tacos didn’t sit so well Fish and he sharted himself mid Limb and lost the beat

  4. renaissance79 Says:

    *with Fish

  5. MiA Says:

    Or Cincy or Starlake!

  6. MiA Says:

Wait, I’m lost. He sharted fish?

  7. Phishm0610 Says:

ha ha. good point. I probably wouldn’t listen to that limb a 2nd time and would move onto something more appealing to my listening ear.

  8. renaissance79 Says:

Like the name says…the renaissance has begun. The boys agree…they like to jam! And even though they may have side projects etc…they are only the “hot interns” that may get a savage stare….not the life-long lover they respect and can’t live without.

  9. renaissance79 Says:

MiA-only if he ate fish tacos I guess

  10. Phishm0610 Says:

can’t argue with that ren. Phish is on right now and I can’t see anything stopping them other then themselves. And based on a lot of the convo, I think there are many in agreement that think that Phish has found something new and won’t lose it.

“Going to a local vineyard and hearing the grower tells his story, about the land, the weather, the vines… It certainly enhances the tasting experience”

^^ It enhances the overall experience and your appreciation of the wine, but not the pure tasting experience, i.e., what your tastebuds, nose and eyes register and how you receive that particular information.

again the blind taste test example illustrates the point.

A glass of cabernet from two different growers/vintners from the same terroir, same year. After a careful blind tasting, you much prefer cabernet A to B.

After the tasting, you learn that cabernet A is made by super models who make the wine in the nude. Does your tasting impression change?

  12. kayatosh Says:

woops. hypothetical works better when cabernet B is made by the nude super models.

  13. renaissance79 Says:

Phishm-Phish is 4 way marriage that has had its bumpy roads to bring them even closer now. So long as they “keep the spice” in that marriage, respect oneanother…and always try to impress one another…..it’s all good.

  14. Phishm0610 Says:

Good question kaya. I think that if you are a wine connoisseur you will be able to taste which wine tastes best to you. If you are a casual wine drinker then the context knowing that a certain wine was made by nude models may change your mind. Either way, you will pick A or B. And to you, you made the right choice. My point was that, I haven’t heard one single complaint about SF3 or any of the Dick’s shows. Maybe a few comments about a set here or there, or a song.
But when the entire audience, connoisseur or casual, taste the same thing you know something different is being tasted. and IT tastes good.

  15. renaissance79 Says:

what is a “pure” experience?…and how will I know when I find one???

  16. renaissance79 Says:

Well said Phishm! Diggin’ the wine theme

  17. Mr. Palmer Says:

It can though. Maybe as a result from talking to the grower you are more aware and looking for different hints of flavor or scents. One’s you may have missed without the background knowledge.

I think we are agreeing more than disagreeing, Kaya. I’m saying it enhances the overall experience. Not the actual taste, from a pure scientific standpoint.

I don’t like blind taste tests. I also stink at the “name that jam” game. I need the background context. That’s how I remember a lot of things.

  18. Phishm0610 Says:

One last comment. I like context when it comes to a band that I truly cherish. I’ve listened to that Fukodoma show probably 50 times as it’s a go to cd in my car. The next time I listen to it I will be intrigued to the fact that the boys took shrooms. I didn’t know that until tonight.

  19. kayatosh Says:

    great question, ren79.

a pure (not necessarily better) art appreciation experience is receiving the art w/o knowing the surrounding context of the art (e.g. chef has a bad temper, saxaphonist found jesus earlier that day, painter had a belligerent father, heavy rain at the end of the growing season, song was inspired by the composer’s lover, etc.).

  20. renaissance79 Says:

Where is this scientific “taster” machine to objectively assign an arbitrary value? The integral factor in all aspects of the Phish experience is the human factor…on both their side and ours. I’m thankful for all of the experiences, preferences, biases, loves, hates and contexts that both sides bring to the table. So rich and flavorful.

  21. Bwana Says:

I’m surprised you’re still debating this Kaya… I don’t think anyone is questioning your point — but I’m not sure why you would want to win your point when I think you agree that music and life can be more interesting with context… What a lot of us are saying is that the context can enhance the listening experience, both live and during playback.

And if you really believed what you’re saying you would never need to see another live show — because the recording would be just as good as the real live thing. You’d save a lot of money too…

  22. Phishm0610 Says:

ok, one more comment. Well said ren.

  23. MiA Says:

Tasting Tzara’s wine was special because it’s his signature.

His being is in it. Made it more than just grape juice.

I’m getting killed in FF. Andrew is nice not to gloat on here.

  24. renaissance79 Says:

So this is a hypothetical experience I conclude? Even just the act of presenting the art will influence the viewer. The mere creation of the art starts the context…does it not?

  25. Mr. Palmer Says:

Yeah brother Kaya, if that’s the case you can sit around slam IPAs, get vaped up and put the flac player on shuffle all day….oh wait.. 😉
