TTFF: Highlights of Summer

Bill Graham Civic Auditorium (Michael Stein)

Light > Ghost” 7.1 II Alpine

One of the smoothest and most original segments of music from Leg One.

Undermind” 8.31 I Dick’s

The best first set closer ever?

Birds of a Feather” 6.15 II, AC

At the end of the summer, this “Birds” from the first night of AC, can still hang with any jam of the season.

Tweezer” 8.17 II, SF

A banger from Bill Graham.

Twist” 6.22 II, Cincy

Jesus Christ Super Twist. Never Forget.

Carini”  6.7 II, Worcester

The first jam of summer still sounds just as fresh as it did in June.

Piper” 8.18 II, SPAC

The “Piper” of the summer.

Sand > Roggae” 6.22 II, Cincy

A full-band funk jam in “Sand,” the likes of which we didn’t hear in the second half of summer.

Harry Hood” 8.15 II, Long Beach

This multi-tiered “Hood” punctuated a majestic opening night in Long Beach.

    Hi friends

I have a garretcesque post as well. SF homies, gonna be in town Thanksgiving (21-25) weekend. Any good sites to check for music in town that weekend? Or any shows you know of I should check out? Checked warfield calendar (nothing), but don’t know any other venues by name. Also would be into theater type stuff.

So kinda accidentally found out about “Australian Pink Floyd” coming to Austin this Friday. They look good. Gonna go out. Seeing as just did DSO, this looks like a good follow up this weekend. Up for it Selector?

  14. MiA Says:

This St. Paul ’95 Reba totally has me taking in deep breaths, feels fantastic, and wow, holy crap it’s great. Makes my eyes sting a little and toes curl while listening. I wanted to hug and high five everyone around me. I was 100% convinced they played it for me for my birthday.

    Birthday shows FTW.

Then the Mike’s and the cowering.

Note: If Phish plays “Fire” in the night, it was a good show. Guaranteed.

  15. MiA Says:

I take back Guaranteed. They played Fire at Coventry. Missed that. But it was the end of their first set first day. Which really wasn’t too bad for 2004. Has that great WOAC opening.

  16. MiA Says:

Spinning Gorge ’98 Reba. The funk masterpiece of Reba’s. Love this show but really love this Reba.

  17. Type III Jamming Personality Disorder Says:

take a trip past the Lemonwheel Reba if you have the time. yet another in the long line of top notch festi-fied Rebas. has that lolling 98 funk feel too

  18. kayatosh Says:

7.18.99 Reba (oswego) — $$$. not too shabby.

  19. MiA Says:

Did Lemonwheel but not Oswego. Not sure if I’ve ever listened to Oswego actually. Huh.

That second set at Lemonwheel was a blast. Great idea T3.

Is there a SBD of that floating around?

  20. joe Says:

I think Phish needs to do a tour of NHL arenas that will lose dates due to the lockout to help out the people who work in and around those arenas by giving them some necessary income. It’s a goodwill thing.

  21. Type III Jamming Personality Disorder Says:

I listened to an uber tinny aud on phishows today

  22. sumodie Says: is one of the best ways to track live music around the country. so much more than ‘jambands’ are listed in their database

  23. IrieWalton Says:

Definitely gotta agree with Sumo’s advice.

I forget that there’s a whole generation of folks who now are coming up that aren’t familiar with, which is kinda crazy to me as that website seemed to be directly intertwined and benefited from Phish’s meteoric rise in the 90s.

  24. MiA Says:

Gonna grab Day One from the Phish spreadsheet. I’ll compare it to the phishows version.
