Any thoughts on James Casey? I’m personally curious about all of the band hopping that happens between the new orleans and Boston (and beyond) bands that resulted from many jam cruises and sit ins. Seems natalie C and James and all them have sat in with all the recent funk group incarnations over the past 5+ years. Very incestual thing…any bands or players that are no miss? I mean I know lettuce and soulive and George porter jr and dumpstafunk and all that but am I missing anything?

Had a bunch of friends at the royal family ball this wknd at terminal 5 so this has been on my mind.

  5. MiA Says:

Bottom line I get to inscribe a book to Biebs!! What do I write?!

Remember, he is from Canada, don’t write anything too complex.

Hey. Music OCD strikes again. I finally finished this two part compilation of 1970’s New York downtown loft party jazz, and I am quite certain that the jazz lovers on the bb will get off on it. I honestly did not know much about it until reading “Love Comes to Buildings on Fire”, which has several chapters devoted to it. I took lots of notes during that read and then hunted down the music. I also go the excellent “Wildflowers: New York Loft Jazz” compilation, which is worth a find (handful of tunes off there on this comp). Style is very NYC, post free jazz/avant garde sound with a mix of cultural influences and some “back to tradition” vibes as well.

It is in two parts due to size, but they essentially flow into each other and can be put into one playlist on itunes. Feel free to share and let me know what you think. Hope you guys dig it!

Mister Miner, how old is Justin now, maybe 19? Submitted for your consideration:

“colleges being nothing but grooming schools for the middle-class non-identity which usually finds its perfect expression on the outskirts of the campus in rows of well-to-do houses with lawns and television sets in each living room with everybody looking at the same thing and thinking the same thing at the same time while the Japhies of the world go prowling in the wilderness to hear the voice crying in the wilderness, to find the ecstacy of the stars, to find the dark mysterious secret of the origin of faceless wonderless crapulous civilization.”
― Jack Kerouac, The Dharma Bums

    Or, perhaps more appropriately:

“Finding Nirvana is like locating silence.” “The silence was an intense roar.”
“I think it’s a lovely hallucination but I love it sorta.”
“One day I will find the right words, and they will be simple.”
“One man practicing kindness in the wilderness is worth all the temples this world pulls.”
“The closer you get to real matter, rock air fire and wood, boy, the more spiritual the world is.”
“Pain or love or danger makes you real again….”
― Jack Kerouac, The Dharma Bums

I didn’t appreciate the deer creek waves live as much as I do on play back. I thought trey was hanging back instead of letting her rip. looked like he kept dicking with pedals.

Listening back I was obv just letting expectations get in the way. #uicwaves

  9. Japhy "the dick" Ryder Says:

Stick around awhile, Justin, and our own Giusseppe the Woodcarver will make a real boy out of you yet!

Otherwise, brain dead & made of money with no future at all is a real possibility here. Get the hell out of LA and don’t hang with Disney stars, bud. #bestrealadvice

  10. xpun Says:

@miner – haha what a ton of pressure. probably cant do any lyrical puns because theyd be over his head. i’d encourage him to go the nyc for new years run so we can get beiber’d again. i will consult my teenage daughters to see if they have any ideas when they get home from school, bingos and some others could do the same

@mia – im never a fan of when you switch avatars beyond the two but i love the new one. seasonal and stays within your palate

  11. xpun Says:

saw looper last night – $$$

slowed down for just a second mid way but stormed to the ending. great acting throughout especially the kid Noah Segan. I can’t say enough about him, blown away by his performance.

ISO – single 28th and 29th anywhere in building. cash + preshow beer + postshow high five

  12. Snigglebeach Says:

  13. Frankie Says:

Star Lake ’98 DVD release… Always loved that show from the Maxell XL-II days… Trenchtown Rock, Wolfmans->Time loves a hero and maybe my favorite monster Runaway Jim…

love that Star Lake Jim. Used it as the soundtrack for taking a midterm yesterday, in fact. great choice for a release!

  17. st8 of mind Says:

I was at the TAB show in Detroit on Thursday. The band sounded fresh, even better than I expected. If you get a chance go see them. It was a great vibe in Detroit with the Tigers winning the pennant right across the street from the Fillmore just minutes before the show started. I had such a great time!!

  18. DaNcInG fOoL Says:

but they just released that jim lol

  19. JMelby Says:

If I remember right, the Biebs was launch through you tube by a video his mom shot, now he is huge.

Think it would be good for him to read your book. Finding out that even when your at the top of your game, your biggest fans are also your harshest critics.

  20. Type III Jamming Personality Disorder Says:

Always so positive, fool. You wanted more releases, here’s a quality release.

  21. Aquaman Says:

Double thumbs up for the Tigers mention. I had friends who went to both the ALCS and Trey. Very jealous of that.

@AJ Downloading jazz comp now. Thanks for the tunes. One question…Will I have to wear skinny jeans, drink Gin heritage cocktails, grow a beard and smoke American Spirits to truly appreciate this hipster mix?

@Everyone….So who’s in for a Phish / MMJ one two punch. MMJ, 28,29 and Phish 30,31. Could be epic….

  22. ren Says:

    Hollerin’ at the BB!

Hope some peeps fared well with the “onlsaught” this Saturday. 6th in line at a super legit Ticketmaster outlet with a great agent and NO NYE by the time it was my turn. Oh well….was seriously debating partying from the couch that night anyway….and now the decision is made.

Sortin through tix over the next week and may have some extras pop-up.

  23. Phamily Berzerker Says:

First Full week in a while. Booo!

Mrs. B got a raise at work so custie stubhub tickets are a shoe-in for MSG.

    Not even close.

  24. MiA Says:

Wookiee Jesus is back. Avatar costume week.

  25. mitch Says:

    ” + postshow high five”
