i was pretty closed minded about music until i was 17 and jg died. i used to say that jerry dying was a musical blessing in disguise for me. i got turned on to so much music (a lot of it being music that influenced the dead) after the summer of ’95.
I am a huge Lou Reed and VU fan. Owned every album Phish has covered (except Quadrophenia) long before the shows.
For some reason, 1995 MiA was very against The Who for being too much of a Super Group or something. Still don’t own any The Who albums.
When the 100 album “takedown” occured, there were a ton of albums I hadn’t heard before. Was a great experience listening to a lot of them.
no doubt heady
my moment was realizing I dug the music that influenced Trey and Jerry a lot more than the music they were creating.
bit event in my life. all their influences is what made their art so great. dove in from those starting points and never turned back.
to this day still feel my greatest debt to JG besides stealing tons of his licks was him showing me so many classic traditional american music artists.
Lou Reed and Metallica’s new album is just so $$
Oh Sweet Nuthin is my fav Page tune. Finally caught it at AV. Stoked as fuck. AV encores are usually well above average for some reason.
good luck, palmer.
cool it down is my joint from that VU album.
me too Kaya. Cool It Down is the goods. one of the funkiest tunes ever written.
I found a Reason needs to be dropped as a cool down tune
Lonesome Cowboy from AV had such a nice little rippin tory solo on it. great little kick down.
I liked that they dusted off Head Held High at JB this past summer.
i would like to see a revamped and exploratory new age- that is one of my favorite tracks off that album
Love the Who but Quadrophenia is not one of my favs. Their earliest albums are excellent -as with the Stones, Beatles, etc I dig listening to how the Who’s musical style matured leading up to their mega albums like Tommy
Yeah, that 100 album halloween prank was terrific fun
My ex- got to go to Vegas ’98, first time either of us caught a Halloween show (mine was Indio, which more than made up for all the others I missed). I was so incredibly envious that she got to go with our other good friend. They came back all wild eyed at the insane craziness that went down that weekend inside and outside the shows, including partying with some ultra rich & super cool fan who had rented an outrageous suite at the top of the Luxor. All that plus Loaded. Fuck me, ha!
Not to mention my ex- went on and on about the Wolfman’s set, which srsly freaked out and/or pissed off a lot of fans, esp the way Trey left the stage with Ghost just hanging out there
But hey, she gave me the Vegas print for xmas!

still active. some of the links may be dead now, but it shouldn’t be too hard to find new ones if you need them. you’re a resourceful bunch.
Quadrophenia
^ Great choice for where the band was musically in 95. I loved it.
i think Quadrophenia is a rad who album and i did not expect them to drop that. and it gave us “drowned”…
agreed, kaveh. fit that arena, fit the band, fit my headspace at the time.
still waiting to hear something else come back from that night, but I think that will probably not happen at this point…
Lonesome Cowboy Bill was so fun. What a weird tune.
In case you missed the pic of flooded Jones Beach:

Sea and Sand from the nYe 95 release made me smile and choke up the other day T$$$. Would love that one to come back.
‘Real Me’ fits their current style too.
Reds voice was shot fOr that run too. It’s semi-annual thing for him.
still waiting to hear something else come back from that night,
^ I still hold hope that Sea and Sand is that choice.
A friend of mine still picks sea & sand as a bustout hope every tour
5:15 = sickness. needs the horns though.
sea and sand would be epic for the chairman to bust back out
I dug Tory’s little take on I’m One though.
Quad is my fav who album though. always dug it. thought the themes of young hipster kids doing drugs and rebelling from societies norms was perfect fit for phish tour blowing up and getting popular in the mid 90′s.
great album. great night.
one of 3 nights I pretty much lost it on L at shows. out of my head.
^
The Real Me, Is It In My Head and I’m One…would be great bust outs as well.
Off:
98 Wolfman’s = now reminds me of the Headphones Jam. Is song is all over the place…in a good way, of course.
third the sea and sand love. $$$ page tune. he does it justice.
little one is watching an animated kids show in which one of the characters is named Pufferty. no joke.
still remember the thriller tease and the ocean wave sounds
still remember the feeling in my head when that shit went down. not good.
was so spun early I thought Tory opened with Icculus got the vibe that the crowd wasn’t ready for it and borked the gamehendge set. actually dug that nonsense back then.
was in my head all of set I. then quad fucked me up. then the YEM ran me the fuck over.
