Election Music

One Nation Under a Groove (Thepin Stash)

Not to trivialize today’s important election, but if you’re a fan of great Phish, there is really only one choice. Just look at recent history. Bill Clinton took office in 1993, the beginning the band’s first peak era. Clinton served two terms through 2000, watching over’s Phish’s glory years, and at the end of his term, Phish called it quits for the first time. George W. Bush, arguably the biggest buffoon to ever sit in the Oval Office, was sworn in at the beginning of 2001 and served two terms during which the band managed to crank out merely 1 and 1/2 years of opiate-laced jamming in ’03 and ’04. Enter Barack Obama in 2009. Less than two months after the Democratic victor was inaugurated, Phish came back at Hampton Coliseum and entered the Golden Age of their career, playing their tails off for the last four years. So here we are at the political crossroads of 2012. Under a Democratic White House, we experienced ’93, ’94, ’95, ’96, ’97, ’98, ’99, 2000, ’09, ’10, ’11, and ’12. Under a Republican watch, the band came into their own during the late ’80s and early ’90s, and graced us with ’03 and half of ’04. Those are the facts—and the choice is yours. Vote wisely, my friends!

On Election Day 2012, I bring you three choice cuts from each of the past four years. And here’s to four more years of Democratic Phish!

Hop Czar is o.k., but if you can get your hands on Bridgeport’s IPA it’s one of the better that I’ve ever tasted. Although my current favorite IPA is Boneyard Brewing’s out of Bend, Ore.

My sister lives out on LI with her 3 kids. Still has no power , 12 days after the storm.

A crew from Georgia had come up to help out. They were told to go back to Georgia because they didn’t have their Union cards. How fucked up is that? Meanwhile, no one has even been to her street to assess the damage.

  9. kayatosh Says:

Decided that whenever I buy beer 1 sixer will be a “goto” IPA and the other will be a seasonal. Must try different things to keep my mind expanding (or my belly as my old lady would suggest).

Southern Tier 2XMAS….yummy…oddly familiar to their Pumking, like ST put it in smaller bottles with a different label and a lower price.

  12. Bad Nirvana Cover Band Says:

Palmer dont blame the unions! They are trained specially to make sure non card carrying members can’t get work or even lend a helpin hand.

  13. Mr. Palmer Says:

    Politics before people… Disgraceful.

  14. El Duderino Says:

Damn straight! Join the Union then we all benefit
    simple as that!

Pretty soon we will all be a part of the same union even if we do different jobs. We will all be paid $7.50 and hour whether you are a doctor or a janitor. Yay future!

  24. Selector J Says:

Thanks for the links @luongo. Somehow neglected to download those 2 Cannonball LPs the first few times you linked them.

@BBers – This program is badass.
Among many other things, it allows you to create file tags (artist, album, track name, etc.) from file names in batch mode.
For example, I just used it to take all the file names
from ‘The Black Messiah’ that were like this:
    1. Cannonball Adderley – The Black Messiah.mp3
to create tags for track number, artist, and track name for the whole album.

    Other key features:
    – Do the inverse of above. That is, it can take file tag info and rename your files.
    – Can create tags (including album artwork!) by searching amazon, discogs, freedb, and musicbrainz.

P.S. This is not a dig on luongo for not putting the tags on the mp3s. I’m happy to add and alter tags. This just makes it way easier. I use it all the time especially for phish AUDs with track names like ph980807i_08_Ghost.
