Election Music

One Nation Under a Groove (Thepin Stash)

Not to trivialize today’s important election, but if you’re a fan of great Phish, there is really only one choice. Just look at recent history. Bill Clinton took office in 1993, the beginning the band’s first peak era. Clinton served two terms through 2000, watching over’s Phish’s glory years, and at the end of his term, Phish called it quits for the first time. George W. Bush, arguably the biggest buffoon to ever sit in the Oval Office, was sworn in at the beginning of 2001 and served two terms during which the band managed to crank out merely 1 and 1/2 years of opiate-laced jamming in ’03 and ’04. Enter Barack Obama in 2009. Less than two months after the Democratic victor was inaugurated, Phish came back at Hampton Coliseum and entered the Golden Age of their career, playing their tails off for the last four years. So here we are at the political crossroads of 2012. Under a Democratic White House, we experienced ’93, ’94, ’95, ’96, ’97, ’98, ’99, 2000, ’09, ’10, ’11, and ’12. Under a Republican watch, the band came into their own during the late ’80s and early ’90s, and graced us with ’03 and half of ’04. Those are the facts—and the choice is yours. Vote wisely, my friends!

On Election Day 2012, I bring you three choice cuts from each of the past four years. And here’s to four more years of Democratic Phish!

  3. mmmHmm Says:

@gdad. That is an awesome yazz rock guitar duel. Santana’s guitar in that reminds me of Bobby Weir’s pearl inlay Ibanez a bit

  4. Gavinsdad Says:

Unfortunately they didn’t get to totally settle in or stretch out @mmmmmm

Soloing on top of one another gets crowded. Still liked to see them together for sure.

bek and i cleaned at the farmhouse a bit more today. we’re getting closer to making the move. gonna be a farmer . . . run about 125 head of hereford cattle. gonna have a garden this year, too.

pulling a ranger ipa . . . not bad. up to now i kinda discounted it since it was a megamicro brew. but, since new belgian east coast operations are moving to town and since i’ve heard others pamping it, i decided to give it a real try. got a six pack.

  6. phoammhead Says:

we also took a car load of hard to recycle items to a special recycle event . . . styrophoam, computers, monitors, scanner, toothpaste tube, old brooms and handles

  7. sumodie Says:

Wow, phoamm, you’re gonna run a 125 herd o cows? Milking cows? Mad respekt for that!

ah yes, we too need to get rid of stuff. House is choking on stuff, books, and more STUFF

Hopefully my Mom gets the msg to not give us any non-edible stuff for xmas, lol. Lookin like another family xmas in nyc instead of stuff giving, fingers crossed

  12. mmmHmm Says:

  13. phoammhead Says:

  14. phoammhead Says:

nice rec, mmm, we’re gonna pick that up at blockhustla

  15. Mr. Palmer Says:

thanks. Unfortunately I’m a netflix streamer so a lot of thease newer movies aren’t available yet.

I actually want to see the new movie ” Lincoln” starring Daniel Day Lewis. Such a sick actor and I dig the civil war stuff.

  16. Mr. Palmer Says:

  17. Mr. Palmer Says:

    Oregon Ducks baby!

  18. MiA Says:

Maybe Phoamm. If I had to watch another LSU/Bama style 6-3 type game again…

  19. Mr. Palmer Says:

Think i”ve mentioned this before, but if you’re bored and want to check out a pretty hilarious TV series via netflix, try Trailer Park Boys.. it’s canadian, yet still very good. I promise you will laugh.

  20. MiA Says:

Assume you’ve seen Due Date Palmer?

  21. Mr. Palmer Says:

    No. Good , i guess?

  22. Mr. Palmer Says:

netflix blows..they don’t have that either. Looks like its Liam Neeson, The Grey. Not too thrilled with the selection.

  23. MiA Says:

    Netflix gets progressively worse.

    I use this though…

  24. Mr. Palmer Says:

Alabama fans everywhere are in mourning, including this guy…

West Coast Phish FTW! 8/2/97 and 7/15/98 are two of my personal faves.

Today wasn’t bad either, at the Central Cali Band Review. Actually had fun, instead of being grumpy and pissed all day. Breakthrough.

Now watching British music fests on Palladia, but I may have to switch it up for some LP vids. Think I’ll start w/5/27/1 Waves.
