Miner’s Top 10 of 2012

12.28.12, MSG (Graham Lucas)

It took a ton of deliberation, crossing out and remaking lists to come up with my favorite jams of 2012. I pondered not even trying to pare down Phish’s prolific year to a “Top 10″ because there are plenty more jams that are outstanding, but when it comes down to it, these are my favorite pieces of music from 2012. Don’t read too much into the rankings, as deciding on an order was quite the ordeal and I flip-flopped places many times before settling on this one. Enjoy the music and come back next Friday to check out the ten jams that I would put just behind these. A great weekend to all.

@bobby d – congrats on the job shift and safe travels

  2. HeadyBrosevelt Says:

thanks for the tunes, miner- “your dad is the original hipster” is very funny.

  3. HeadyBrosevelt Says:

    more scents for sure.

  4. willowed Says:

No doubt Bobby D,. I think I’ve just given up on that song making a return, just like I’ve given up on a Mike’s 2nd jam along with a Halley’s and Roses jam.

  5. SillyWilly Says:

A Song I Heard the Ocean Sing.

  6. HeadyBrosevelt Says:

    sass with intro, please.

  7. Foul_Domain Says:

    Great picks, Miner.

I think it speaks volumes that you have 3 MSG jams in that list. After such a long break between Dick’s and MSG, I never would have thought that the latter would produce so much gold.

I’d give an honorable mention to Dick’s Jim and AC Birds as well. Its always good when you have to work hard just to short-list the best of the year.

2013 is going to blow up in a big way!

    Happy Friday!!

  8. Kaveh Says:

    Morning BBers.

@Miner: good list, considering there were many excellent choices to chose from in 2012.

  9. stapes Says:

Feel like people have been asking for more Scents all of 3.0. Yes please. Some monster 2.0 versions for sure. Good open ended jam platform.

  10. MiA Says:

Everybody is part of a generation and culture. They just try to broadcast to others they aren’t in the one the probably actually came from.

  11. MiA Says:

Listening to Dicks all day today straight through. Should cover about 8 hours?

  12. xpun Says:

a top 10 for 12 is pretty much an impossible task. so much good stuff to enjoy.

we need to set up a 64 jam March Madness poll. Dicks Light would be the HEAVY fav, but it would be fun to see how the rest shake out.

  13. SillyWilly Says:

the older I get the less likely it is that I can predict another’s age

  14. jdub Says:

Modern day hipsters are the funniest thing to me. I just don’t get it. The whole let’s be cool by being uncool by being ironic is just so nauseating. It seems like a lot of work. Watered down beer, tight jeans, crappy music, accessories from the ’70s + ’80s, and a navel gaze are not ironic – it is just plain silly.

  15. xpun Says:

    @MiA – 8.9 hrs

Phish 2012 – 863 songs, 4.5 days, and it was good

  16. jdub Says:

just this or just that… too many in my above post. I should edit myself before I click submit.

  17. roberto luongo Says:

    FUCKYOURFACE

    have fun kids

    what a fuckin year
    great list!

  18. RoosterPizza Says:

A lot tougher to make a top 10 for 2012 than 2011. This can only mean good things as we move forward.

  19. punkmug Says:

Great list Miner. 6 of your top 10 are solid locks on my top 10 list. Its great that 2012 has produced so much great music. It sets the bar pretty high for 2013.

  20. xpun Says:

well put in my vacation for july 20-27 and august 3-10, hoping red light doesnt fuck my face. probably a light summer for me show wise anyways in order to be all over fall ’13, halloween, 30th anny and msg. fingers crossed. but festi x and dicks on the list as well.

  21. Dr Pronoia Says:

jdub, don’t forget awkwardness as default communication style, IF it ever happens in person. otherwise most relationships happen via text or sepia instagrams

  22. Chonz Says:

nice. Looking forward to revisiting these jams today.

  23. kayatosh Says:

top ten of 2012 is a daunting task and one that would rattle my brain.

spinning 7.1.12 Light>Ghost now (light so good w/ the frankie says tease by mike and the norwegian wood theme. mike guides this stellar jam).

BNCB for breakfast sounds great. philly needs some BNCB love.

  24. halcyon Says:

    Good list Miner.

Cool shots from the other day D Fool.

Hope everyone is well out here.

Off to hunt down some Alchemist brewing this weekend.

Haven’t listened to the Crosseyed – Light well since this summer. Going to spin this one now and get ready for work.

    Good weekend to all!

  25. sumodie Says:
