TTFF: 50 and a Short Poll

12-28-12 (Graham Lucas)

Here are ten more jams/sequences—unranked—that take the next ten slots in 2012’s Top 50. Below, I threw in a random reader’s poll. Take a few seconds to weigh in on some Phishy questions.

Tweezer” 8/26 II, Charlotte, NC

This jam could be ranked higher.

Back On the Train -> Hold Your Head Up” 6/28 II, Noblesville, IN

A rare move outside the lines of “BOTT” brought the show to outer space.

Disease > Sand -> Twist” 6/29 II, Noblesville, IN

This sequence felt like the start of a huge set.

Stash” 8/22 I, Kansas City, MO

A first set scorcher, one of the dark horse chunks of leg two.

Golden Age -> 2001” 6/30 II, East Troy, WI

A hearty dose of whole-band funk at Alpine.

Crosseyed > Slave” 6/16 II, Atlantic City, NJ

Solid Phish through and through.

Twist > Piper > Billy Breathes” 6/15 II, Atlantic City, NJ

A quality, mid-set chunk of 6/15’s second set.

Run Like an Antelope” 7/3 II, Wantagh, NY

A full-throttle run through the set closer.

Drowned > 2001 > Reba” 6/17 II, Atlantic City, NJ

Another high-quality start of a set.

Tweezer” 6/10 I, Manchester, TN

The Bonnaroo “Tweezer.” The best of Leg One.

King Kahn is a trip. Cool guy, met him in Berlin. He’s on some positive black magic shit. Dudes from Atlanta, Indian guy, moved to Berlin. He and his wife had just flown to Bali and other south Pacific Islands collecting donkey teeth and other magic talismans.

  2. littleumbrellas Says:

Hilarious high energy individual. They let him back in San Fransisco now, but at one show at the Great American Music Hall, he downed a bottle of Jameson and started stage diving naked until people stopped catching him. But he didnt stop diving. I remember one reviewer of the show posted: “i you could hear his teeth hitting the floor.”
Dont expect slop though, great group. They’ve got good taste.

  3. lumpyhead Says:

have fun Mardukis! Wish I could join you!

  4. MiA Says:

Thanks Bingos. I will do it. Looking for all recs. Although I think I’ll just try to catch them all.

  5. MiA Says:

So the next day in ’00 is the Fukuoka show. I’ve kinda been on a Hiatus while I’m suffering at this corporate retreat in Winfield, MO so not posting.

It’s been pretty fun here actually, and I met a guy from Philly who says he’s seen 100 shows. Couldn’t remember his first show in Philly, but I said “What year?”
    “The Spectrum. December”
    “Yeah, that’s right…”

Favorite tracks of 100 shows = Meatstick and Bouncing. Doesn’t have a favorite Ghost.

Oh well. Some people just gotta say they’ve seen 100 shows…

Third day on the job, and he got grab assy with the girl from Calgary in front of his boss and his bosses boss. I don’t think he handles his liquor well.

I’ve copied 4 great tracks to Dropbox, including the Cities, Gumbo and Twist and Fukuoka Jam #1. But as we all know, the whole show was phenomenal. Impossible to pick one.

  6. MiA Says:

or if you like the second set…

  7. The Light Between Says:

Phish. com is down. Dates soon?

  8. ren Says:

100 shows and Meatstick/Bouncing is all you’ve got???

I know there’s no wrong way to do Phish….but we might have a contender here

  9. BingosBrother Says:

Thats cool as hell littleu. Checked a few Young Magic tracks and it ain’t grabbin me.

100 shows and favorite song is bouncin. Sure buddy. Gracias mia.

  10. phlorida phan Says:

^Maybe his lady saw 100 shows, and that’s her fav?

  11. Mr. Palmer Says:

Lots of different ways to do Phish.

I have a buddy that I have probably seen 50 shows with over the years. He couldn’t tell you one highlight of any of them. In fact, if a group of people are discussing a show, he’ll turn to me and ask ” was I there? “…LOl.. to each their own I guess.

Him ” what is this song”

Me ” golden Age, new cover they’ve been playing”

him ” have I seen it before”

me: yes, the very first time they played it , in Albany.

    Him : oh…cool”

    me : facepalm:

  12. MiA Says:

Could be actually. He’s divorced. I think he’s taking it hard. Luckily no kids.

Everyone on here is exactly my expectation of 100 show fans.

We’re all Phish OCD, and even if you just started seeing them in 3.0, no matter how many shows you’ve seen, I am 100% confident I’d love to talk Phish with anyone on here.

He did say he liked “that Waves Soundcheck.” So that’s good. A least someone to talk to Phish around here with.

  13. MiA Says:

It’s cool if Bouncin’ is his favorite track actually. I guess I’ve gotten so used to chatting with peeps like this on the board, it’s hard to go back to “normal” Phish fans.

Ones that probably don’t know the beauty of the St. Denis Reba.

  14. tzara's Says:

@MiA, I thought I saw that the Fest was next week. Not for a whole yet. Hmm. Initiating grovel sequence.

  15. Kaveh Says:

    @MiA: thanks man!

  16. BingosBrother Says:

    2009 Miami Ghost

  17. tela'smuff Says:

@MiA – if the next two weeks weren’t as busy as they are, i’d be booking that flight to Austin. what an incredible lineup. i’d love to get down to Austin.

  18. Kaveh Says:

Austin = a great time. If you can, and haven’t, do.

  19. Dgrooves Says:

Speaking of running into a phan in unexpected places…
I work as an access control specialist issuing employee identification badges and working the security access control program for a Fortune 500 company at its headquarters. I wear full business attire and deal with over-inflated, self righteous, greedy, and contemptuous d-bags all the live long day. It gets old. Today an outside vender account rep in his late 30s walks up dressed to the nines in a suit that probably came from JA Banks rather than JC Penny, and he was texting on none other than an iPhone dressed in the Fishman Dougnut case…Snap! I said “Either you would like nothing more than to see Fish sporting the goggles at least one more time, or your son bought you that case for father’s day because he thought it was cool and you have no idea what it means.” And he says to me, “You must be bringing up the goggles because you saw that video that was attached to the article about the MSG organ player playing “It’s Ice” during a hockey game.” 30 minutes of joyous conversation ensued about all things past, present, and future Phish. He missed is vender meeting, but trully didn’t give a rat’s ass…lol. And this man certainly remembered some of his favorite moments, whether it be Rhinoceros into the most completely badass Comet ever imagined or FUCK YOUR FACE. Man! I love moments like these…rofl.

  20. ElJefe Says:

DGroove- that is awesome.. I had a Gf that went to a bunch of shows and had fun but wasn’t a fan… Used to run into people all over like Mt Rainer or something. Same 30 min convo like you just had.. She’d just be there shaking her head and giving me the ‘lets go’ look..

  21. kayatosh Says:

    cheers, BB

    great story, dgrooves.

got a taste of the pliny thanks to Gdad. calpain in the mix as well. great afternoon w/ the local BB slice. That beer is delicious, and all it’s cracked up to be. very reminiscent of the enjoy by. tacked on a few hopslams post pliny and started things of w/ a nugget nectar. feeling grateful but a little fuzzy right now.

  24. ren Says:

Atypical “Sonic”? Bowie (really comes through on the AUD) to close the first set…feels powerful.

    2nd set opens with Jim…oh yeah…the 58 min monster!

Anny Run ’13 they will play a full set long Runaway Jim.

  25. vegas wolfmans Says:

    Austin psych fest looks insane.

Black Mountain: In The Future now orange’d. Been meaning to up that one for a while. Also, been loving the sumo/MiA-pimped Brownout album. Awesome stuff.
