TTFF: Reader’s Picks—Alexander Papadonis
All selections and text by Alexander Papadonis, aka @DryIceFactory
“Bathtub Gin” 6.28.00 II, Holmdel, NJ
From a consistency standpoint, 2000 might just be the best year for “Bathtub Gin.” Here’s my pick for the best one of the summer. Straight fire all throughout.

“Cities” 7.31.98 II, Columbus, OH
What would a @DryIceFactory playlist be without – what I would consider – the best version of “Cities” ever played? Bumping summer groove session gives way to supersonic Trey-shred. Must hear Phish from top to bottom.

“Sand” 6.11.11 I, Columbia, MD
Everyone loves to talk about the Portsmouth “Sand,” but does anyone else remember the Merriwether 1st setter that took place a week before? Trey absolutely attacks the Ocedoc in this version, masterfully creates some fierce tension and brings the jam to a head before moving into the ending. The highlight of a banging 1st set in an otherwise disappointing weekend in the Mid-Atlantic.

“Tweezer” 8.1.98 II, East Troy, WI
Musical perfection, a must-hear highlight from Alpine ’98.

“David Bowie” 11.26.94 II, Minneapolis, MN
The Minneapolis “Bowie” absolutely, 100% set the blueprint for what took place in Providence one month later. You won’t convince me otherwise.

“Light” 10.26.10 II, Manchester, NH
Sometimes I feel like the only people who appreciate this show were the ones who were there. Phish absolutely clobbered a rather rowdy week-night crowd at Verizon Wireless Arena on a Tuesday in New Hampshire. This “Light” (complete with an Alumni Reprise jam) really hit the spot, and might not even be the highlight of the show for many.

“Twist” 2.24.03 II
“Twist” is a jam that can go, literally, anywhere. This one takes a slow and steady course to Saturn.

“Piper -> What’s The Use?” 9.11.00 II
Why not pair a scary “Twist,” with a scary Piper? The highlight of a great show at Great Woods.

“Harry Hood” 9.11.99 II, George, WA
Phish slams the door shut on yet another fantastic set at The Gorge. The crowd roars in approval from the composed section all the way to the final peak. This “Hood” is a personal favorite and is underrated, must-hear Phish.

“YEM -> Manteca -> YEM” 12.31.10 II, MSG, NYC
What’s better than a “YEM” paired with “Manteca” antics?

I really needed to lock into the entire AC “thing” in the live setting. Once I got it live it helped me appreciate them way more. Last time in Philly bout half a year ago they played well. The one keys player screamed his throat out so crazily that they had to postpone the following date.
PSA – heroin will end your life sooner or later. Got the call today that one of our extended GD fam died 2 days ago from an OD. I’d seen him at GD related shows for the past few years and he wasn’t on a good path. It’s really a damn shame. We only get so many years. Make em count!!
Mia and Sumodie- great live. Check out they’re live DVD from 05 or so super sick. Them doing shows around Iceland in weird venues and small towns
I dl’d live AC shows from nyctaper.com
Mp3 & flac avail
Several shows are there, including their most recent nyc show
A few shows are on etree too i think
Sumodie
Seeing Sigur Ros March 26, really looking forward to their show. INNI is a really good live show filmed in B&W.
They had a cool AMA on reddit a few weeks back where they discussed how much of their music is improvised, they are going to release more of their back catalogue on vinyl, and jonsi’s singing in “hopelandic” which is more melodical than any tru ewords. Though some songs contain words, most are just melodies to flow along with the music.
Here is a clip from INNI

I can’t go for being twice as nice. I can’t go for just repeating the same old lines.
umbrellas, feeling your Oates?
Thanks Eljefe
And I have ticket in hand for Sigur 3/25 at MSG. Seriously contemplating the vehicle.
Sigur Ros show going to be deep and heavy, but not very dancey. I saw them at the Chicago theater and it was a sit down situation and it was amazing. Going to see them at UIC (bitches) in April, rolling solo, should be heavy.
and yes to the Heima movie, I watch it regularly, beautiful. Im a sucker for the big melodic stuff, though.
Today has seen:
1) My Employer gives each employee two cases of free Widmer beer at lunch (the smiles on people’s faces were hysterical);
2) My door at home opens and suddenly my jar is overflowing with Durban, G13, Jack Herer, and strawberry diesel.
3) Found out I get a bonus next week and the lady is getting a raise–all on the same day.
Think I’ll submit my BGCA lottery form, tonight, and run out and buy a powerball tix for good measure.
Big up to all and happy weekend!
that’s an Irie day, for sure.
Mama told me there would be days like this
Hit on the wife irie.. Business time
I proclaim March 15th … Irie Day!
Everyone get Irie!
Done.
Man, that’s weird. I had 2 job offers today along with my parent company offering me a 20k raise to stay. Hmmm hard to make these decisions on irie day. Too bad it only happens 4 times a year. Guess I’ll site back and drink some beer. Peace.
Party time for sure, MiA.
Just put some coho in the oven, brussel sprouts in the broiler, rice pilaf on the burner, and popped a ’08 Domain Drouhin.
And I’m out, have a good night folks.
Not sure what I meant on the 4 years. It’s just that recruiters call me year round. Guess I averaged it. With that logic I’m out. Have a good one all.

Anyone ever had a jam that took them so far out that they thought they would never come back? Then all of a sudden the music starts stearing toward more sane thoughts. Just a hypothetical. BOAF from AC is a great jam. Nuff from me. Could use some AW personalities.
this Twist is nice.
ya…the twist… the hood… the wtu… the jibboo… its all good……
oops…jibboo from prior list… nothing to see here… move along…
