Bathtub Gin” 6.28.00 II, Holmdel, NJ

From a consistency standpoint, 2000 might just be the best year for “Bathtub Gin.” Here’s my pick for the best one of the summer. Straight fire all throughout.

Cities” 7.31.98 II, Columbus, OH

What would a @DryIceFactory playlist be without – what I would consider – the best version of “Cities” ever played? Bumping summer groove session gives way to supersonic Trey-shred. Must hear Phish from top to bottom.

Sand” 6.11.11 I, Columbia, MD

Everyone loves to talk about the Portsmouth “Sand,” but does anyone else remember the Merriwether 1st setter that took place a week before? Trey absolutely attacks the Ocedoc in this version, masterfully creates some fierce tension and brings the jam to a head before moving into the ending. The highlight of a banging 1st set in an otherwise disappointing weekend in the Mid-Atlantic.

Tweezer” 8.1.98 II, East Troy, WI

Musical perfection, a must-hear highlight from Alpine ’98.

David Bowie” 11.26.94 II, Minneapolis, MN

The Minneapolis “Bowie” absolutely, 100% set the blueprint for what took place in Providence one month later. You won’t convince me otherwise.

Light” 10.26.10 II, Manchester, NH

Sometimes I feel like the only people who appreciate this show were the ones who were there. Phish absolutely clobbered a rather rowdy week-night crowd at Verizon Wireless Arena on a Tuesday in New Hampshire. This “Light” (complete with an Alumni Reprise jam) really hit the spot, and might not even be the highlight of the show for many.

***

Twist” 2.24.03 II

“Twist” is a jam that can go, literally, anywhere. This one takes a slow and steady course to Saturn.

 ***

Piper -> What’s The Use?” 9.11.00 II

Why not pair a scary “Twist,” with a scary Piper? The highlight of a great show at Great Woods.

[audio:http://phishthoughts.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/Piper-_.mp3,http://phishthoughts.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/Whats-The-Use_-_.mp3]

 ***

Harry Hood” 9.11.99 II, George, WA

Phish slams the door shut on yet another fantastic set at The Gorge. The crowd roars in approval from the composed section all the way to the final peak. This “Hood” is a personal favorite and is underrated, must-hear Phish.

YEM -> Manteca -> YEM” 12.31.10 II, MSG, NYC

What’s better than a “YEM” paired with “Manteca” antics?

the simple may be my fav so far.

  3. littleumbrellas Says:

Between the reader list and T3’s alpha…. its been a good time.

Just happened upon cd laying around, Phish 6/24/04 set 2.
Wow! Amazing jam out of Boogie, reprise laser funk get down and a super smooth transition into Ghost. Really nice.

  4. BNCB Says:

Weird. I looked at images of giant grows on google earth today. Plus went to a corned beef and cabbage feed that I didn’t partake in. Went straight to dessert.

  5. phishm Says:

I was at 6/24/04 and don’t remember any of those songs being played. Killer Tube>Antelope and a very good DWD>RnR to end the 1st.

    Hello Friday night people!
Needless to say I haven’t been around much recently, but I am very excited about the summer dates. MPP are home shows for me, so that’s a luxury on a saturday and sunday night. It’s nice to have 2 for sure shows, especially since having the baby last summer gave me a big old 0 for 2012.

I think I’m not going to do the lottery for MPP though, I want to be in the pavilion and don’t want to have to unload a bunch of lottery lawn seats like I have had to in years past.

Listening to 8/31/12 set II now. I’d love to go to Dick’s this summer and I even have an Aunt in Denver who could babysit…let’s see if I can convince the husband….

  7. littleumbrellas Says:

    Oh, that’s why… excuse me. 6/26/04. Correction

  8. phishm Says:

Sorry umbrellas. Wasn’t trying to be lame, but after reading what I wrote I was totally lame. Just remember that date cuz I took my parents to the show.

  9. sumodie Says:

SheDivides, all around awesome news, great to hear from you. Work on that husband!

Just watched Before Sunrise again, still terrific. Gotta hope the 3rd one coming out this year holds up to the first two. One of Richard Linklater’s finest films

  10. DaNcInG fOoL Says:

    Sumo, I hear it’s good

  11. RoosterPizza Says:

    Good luck Divides!

I remember your due date was the same as my wife’s last year, June 14th. I hope everything is going well!

  12. BNCB Says:

June kids rock. Year of the Dragon last year.

  13. sumodie Says:

G had never seen Before Sunrise (he’s so uneducated, lol). Julie Delpy is absolutely luminescent, hard to believe she was born in ’69 too, like me

We’ve got Apocalypse Now Redux cued up next for another night, thnx to Phish. At least G has seen that film at some point, tho he had no clue what film the tour announcement was spoofing. I was so obsessed with Apocalypse Now in college; will have to track down the documentary too, Hearts of Darkness

And then we’ll get back to Before Sunset (the sequel, also highly rec’d for all you slackers)

  14. littleumbrellas Says:

Bill Graham Tweezer. The more i listen to this one, the more i love it. Majorly underrated.

  15. She Divides Says:

Sumodie – Thanks. Of course the funny thing is that my husband introduced me to Phish, and now I’m the more obsessive one….not that any of us are obsessive 🙂

RoosterPizza – I remember that someone else had the same due date! Our baby girl ended up being born on 6/20. Things are going really well. It’s a wild ride, but so amazingly cool to see her discovering the world. I hope things are going well for you guys too! Are you going to make any shows this summer?

  16. DaNcInG fOoL Says:

Ha sumo, I watched apocalypse now (redux is all I ever watch) a couple nights ago and before sunrise last week.

  17. MiA Says:

Coffee and Vapin’ to Sun Kil Moon

  18. halcyon Says:

Morning folks….workin and listening to alpha uber mixed in with sigur ros.

A spate of bad news has come in from friends lately, I empathize for them greatly, and am trying to figure out how to help. It is a strong reminder to be grateful and thankful for what we have, and to always reach out to your friends. It also helps put my situation into some perspective.

  19. Angryjoggerz Says:

Home alone with 3 year old and 3 month old who has never taken a bottle for 5 hours today. Pray for Mojo.

  20. joe Says:

another fine batch of selections here. Nice job DryIce. Tweezer started the day off on the good foot.

  21. gavinsdad Says:

Hey AJ – I’m sure somebody has mentioned this to u but when that 3 mo old is hungry enough she’ll take a bottle. Sometimes your situ is the best way.

  22. gavinsdad Says:

With u @halcy I mentioned last nite we lost another old GD friend to an overdose. Kinda thought we were past that stage. Vibes your way.

And on a different note, just about to take my thick ass out for a run. Been exercising again on the regular and I feel much better about myself that way. Specially when my shirts are less snug.

    Old guy talk!!!

  23. Angryjoggerz Says:

Thanks, GD. She’s a good baby, so all good. Well done on the working out. I’ve kept with it, down 30lbs, gonna shed 10 more, lightest I’ve been since 20 and stringer than I’ve ever been, feels great. Sort of freaking my wife out in a good way.

  24. RoosterPizza Says:

    Dancin

Our daughter came early, on May 30th! I will do the dick’s run, but that will be all for me. I guess that is a good three to hit!

    Good luck with the husband!

  25. halcyon Says:

GD, I thought about you when writing that. Vibes to you to.
