All selections and text by Alexander Papadonis, aka @DryIceFactory

Bathtub Gin” 6.28.00 II, Holmdel, NJ

From a consistency standpoint, 2000 might just be the best year for “Bathtub Gin.” Here’s my pick for the best one of the summer. Straight fire all throughout.

Cities” 7.31.98 II, Columbus, OH

What would a @DryIceFactory playlist be without – what I would consider – the best version of “Cities” ever played? Bumping summer groove session gives way to supersonic Trey-shred. Must hear Phish from top to bottom.

Sand” 6.11.11 I, Columbia, MD

Everyone loves to talk about the Portsmouth “Sand,” but does anyone else remember the Merriwether 1st setter that took place a week before? Trey absolutely attacks the Ocedoc in this version, masterfully creates some fierce tension and brings the jam to a head before moving into the ending. The highlight of a banging 1st set in an otherwise disappointing weekend in the Mid-Atlantic.

Tweezer” 8.1.98 II, East Troy, WI

Musical perfection, a must-hear highlight from Alpine ’98.

David Bowie” 11.26.94 II, Minneapolis, MN

The Minneapolis “Bowie” absolutely, 100% set the blueprint for what took place in Providence one month later. You won’t convince me otherwise.

Light” 10.26.10 II, Manchester, NH

Sometimes I feel like the only people who appreciate this show were the ones who were there. Phish absolutely clobbered a rather rowdy week-night crowd at Verizon Wireless Arena on a Tuesday in New Hampshire. This “Light” (complete with an Alumni Reprise jam) really hit the spot, and might not even be the highlight of the show for many.

Twist” 2.24.03 II

“Twist” is a jam that can go, literally, anywhere. This one takes a slow and steady course to Saturn.

Piper -> What’s The Use?” 9.11.00 II

Why not pair a scary “Twist,” with a scary Piper? The highlight of a great show at Great Woods.

Harry Hood” 9.11.99 II, George, WA

Phish slams the door shut on yet another fantastic set at The Gorge. The crowd roars in approval from the composed section all the way to the final peak. This “Hood” is a personal favorite and is underrated, must-hear Phish.

YEM -> Manteca -> YEM” 12.31.10 II, MSG, NYC

What’s better than a “YEM” paired with “Manteca” antics?

Wow AJ. That’s amazing. I have a long road ahead of me but 30 lbs is the basic goal. Nice work.

  2. avila Says:

Just checked in here at 8am and had to chuckle. Love how this place brings everything from IPA, to old Dead shows, to exercise in our 40s, to new psych rock, to handling 3 month olds, and more……all because of our love for 4 guys who have played together for 30 years. Cheers to those of you who have made this place what it is!! Little League opening day parade in 3 hours. Ugh.

  3. Leo Weaver Says:

    Vibes @gdad and hal.

@aj…like gdad said, when hungry she’ll figure it out. We switched wee weaver to whole mile from formula a few weeks back. She really didn’t like it at first and wanted nothing to do with it (we had flying bottles and sippy cups for a bit)…so we just quit trying to give her the bedtime milk and gave it to her at midnight when she woke up hungry. Took about 2 or 3 of those and she realized it’s not so bad. Not exactly the same, but close enough.

@she divides…late congrats, good to see ya around again.

Beautiful day here in Carolina…gonna get out into the garden to do a little work later. Need to seed carrots and sugar snaps considering I’m about a month late on ’em.

    Happy Saturday!

here is a little st. patty’s highlight from jgb ’78. ’78 jgb: when they were on they were fucking on.

one of the last gd runs i saw was the st patty’s run in philly in ’95- first unbroken chain during that run. it was the end of the road for “the boys”, but i loved it. sixteen and stoked. happy st. patty’s weekend to all…

Mumford and Sons on the cover of a Rolling Stone.

  18. kayatosh Says:

saw Ang Lee’s Life of Pi last night. $$$ movie. visually beautiful (probably even better on a big screen TV. we rock modest sized round here). solid story. and richard parker is a badass.

spinning some June 94. hot. This band oozes confidence and chops. Trey and Fishman in god mode.

kicked party off w/ 6.14.94 SOAM, Bowie, YEM.

tape is good to great. need to turn it up.

  19. phlorida phan Says:

^ they better buy 5 copies for their mother’s.

  20. BingosBrother Says:

Did you know that Patrick convinced a Pagan Irish king to convert to christianity using the clover as metaphor for the father, son, and Holy Ghost? No celebrating that for me. Favorite shirt as a kid was my “Patrick was a saint, I ain’t” tee. What songs would we, as phish fans, use to convert the blaspheming non-fan(besides The Holy Ghost of course)?

  21. BingosBrother Says:

Are those the panties your mother laid out for you?

The whole band looks how I imagine df to look.

  22. bobby weird Says:

thnx heady. just watched the entire 1:09 set. beautious…

  23. bobby weird Says:

^ol jer and kahn thoroughly enjoying themselves throughout… quite obviously sharing the same, very pleasant headspace…

  24. gavinsdad Says:

Yes @ heady etc – I’d linked that a few weeks back. Literally shed tears watching that Mission. Missing that man. Not sure I’ve seen any other footy where JG is so animated.

Spent my time out in car listening to various and sundry Crazy Fingers…another one of my true faves. Somehow came across Pittsburgh ’89…which I attended…but wow Jer was haggard…not sure I saw a CF nailed in the time I saw the Dead but I didn’t love it any less.

  25. bobby weird Says:

the night they drove old dixie in that vid is, in my mind, the best vocal of that song ever. without question. cannot believe the emotion jg evokes during that moving rendition…
