.. am i wrong or does rap usually sound awful at large Rock Arena style events?
Seen some rap battles, open freestyles and fully incredible Turntablism performances that blew my mind, but have usually found that rap concerts don’t work when i go see rappers whose records i love.
ex: Public Enemy, The GZA performing Liquid Swords, Heiro, Q-tip, Mos and Talib, Theopholis London, Del, Cee Lo,…etc
Kinda stoped going. I think seeing people rap into a mic the same verses they always do and trying to recreate a record live doesn’t interest me.
Araab Muzic, was so much better than Cool Kids, Das Racist or Skrillex. That was a very funny bill to be on. Still had the best brisket ever that day. Austin Rules.
speaking of. as usual new Action Bronson video is fuckin hilarious. tracks kinda dope too.

Simple ain’t too bad either..
So glad folks don’t say “WOOO!” during Stash anymore
Love the song Acid Rap. Instant classic.
with the exception of the beasties, any rap i have seen in a large venue has been mediocre. i saw black thought and rahzel at the grape street pub (a tiny, hole in the wall bar/venue in manayunk, phila. )on a local acts (philly, new jersey, new york) night. the local acts were okay, but black thought and rahzel were rad at the end. this was probably 15 years ago.
Guru was pretty tight live, saw him in small SD club years ago.
Beasties were pretty good but only saw em in festie setting
I agre that hip hop, like all other genres, have some not so good live performers and some that just kill. Those that are outstanding live that I have caught have been: KRS One (the king), Mr. Lif, Guilty Simpson, Public Enemy, Shabazz, Antipop.
grape stret pub manayunk. hollah!
Toumani Diabate with Balake Sissoko …

Deltron 3030 tour with Kid Koala on the decks and the Automator as general hype man and knob turner
great show
saw Kool Keith on the Dr. Octagon tour in the mid 90’s. shit was sick.
freestyle fellowship can put on a show too. and yes Public Enemy is one of the best live acts of any genre in their prime. fucked shit up.
Toumani Diabte! First listen was New Ancient Strings.
heaven music. Bliss your pants.
Wish I had seen Octagon first run. I’ve got the full EP these days. Biology 101 side gets the most spins now. At the time that shit blew me open so deep. Gonna tear a whole in that record some day. Bitches Brew, The Dropper, Dr. Octagon, Permutations (Tobin) all hit me around the same time. Found music!
RL, you still going on about that Vegas ’03 on Twitter with Miner?
#MinerhatesthissitetotalkaboutPhish
10/6 & 10/7/00 Shoreline, Dr. Octagon, The Dropper, Sextant, Bitches Brew, Permutations all hit me around that time. Sage & Spirit.
Haha
Anyone ever use Score Big or other ticket auction sites? Wonder what the success rate is with these Priceline-like broker sites. I’ve never had an offer accepted but I’ve always lowballed the shit out of them
saw PE at a small club (Middle East downstairs for Boston/Cambridge folks) and it was fantastic. This was about 15 years ago. They did an unannounced show, pre-twitter how did we even find out about it?. They were shooting some video for a new single and ran through that a few times but did all of the hits and more for a few hours. Really enjoyable. Only other minor complaint was no Terminator X but we got to meet Chuck D and Flava Flav upstairs at the bar before the show just hanging out.
checked the rock and roll hof ceremony on HBO the other night. Actually dug the crossroads super jam at the end.

Loved the middle east. went and saw some drum n bass act downstairs there one night when my crew was going to see strangefolk upstairs. never could get into strangejoke
I got way too drunk last night. Sorry if I wrote some weird shit. My bad. Another night of working all night. This job sucks sometimes. Oh well. Just popping in while on a conference call. You all take care.
marco, I love 11/16/94. That show birthed the CDT from A Live One
