Dick’s Picks 2013

8.30.13 (Jake Silco)

8.30.13 (Jake Silco)

Tweezer” 8.31 II

This late-set surprise completely blew up as Trey prominently featured his Camden ’09 “Tweezer” lick plucked from Led Zeppelin’s “When the Levee Breaks.”

Sand” 8.30 II

This jam provided the centerpiece of night one; the best version in a light summer for “Sand.”

Chalk Dust Torture” 8.31 II

The jam of the weekend at Dick’s—a multi-thematic monster anchored by the morphing rhythms of Jon Fishman.

Stash” 8.30 I

Though not quite on the level of Merriweather’s gem, this version elevates beyond the norm.

Carini” 9.1 II

A feel-good jam to cap a feel-good summer.

Caspian > Piper” 9.1 II

The second consecutive, out-of-character Denver “Caspian” segued, unfinished into a hot “Piper.”

Ocelot” 8.30 I

This was the jam with which the weekend began to elevate; my favorite version of the three thousand played this year.

Bathtub Gin” 8.31 I

A straightforward, though peaked-out and inspirational “Gin.”

Say Something > Walls of the Cave” 8.30 II

It didn’t take long for the band to place “Say Something” in the second set. Look for big things from this jam come fall tour.

I just made a huge mistake. Ordered one of those new 150 piece pepperoni pizza’s from Donatos and proceeded to eat about half of it. I’m going to pay for that for a few days. No room for beer. Oh well. Haven’t even touched the wings yet. Might call for a long walk.
On a Phish note, just re listened to that seven below>ghost that was mentioned before. Always loved those jams. Got burnt out for a while as they were on 1 of the 6 cd’s in my car for a good while. Good to go back to however.

  6. BingosBrother Says:

Didn’t joe. Thanks dude. Bought the behind the scenes Jake doc at a gas station a few months back. Couldn’t resist. Sad life.

  7. Jerome Garcia Says:

You guys are much more link savvy than me. Employ the trusty ctrl v followed by ctrl p. Well at least when I’m not on smarty pants ph.

Jane’s! Read Voopstar’s lyrical post not once not twice but thrice! & still couldn’t place it. Idiots rule! Did you catch their Bass Concert Hall show a yr or so ago? Didn’t make it but had some bros who did & said it was excellent.

    Me & my girlfriend
    Don’t wear no shoes
    Her nose is painted pepper
    She loves me
I mean it’s oh so serious
    As serious can be…

There weren’t 150 pieces of pizza, but 150 pepperoni’s on the pizza. Big difference I guess. Time for Tahoe Tweezer. One of those nights. Kids are gone. House to myself. IPA’s, smoke and Phish. Could be better, but I’ll take it for a Monday night.

  10. Jerome Garcia Says:

    Bingos electrons yo

  11. aj Says:

love me some old Janes Addiction. Been in a Peter Gabriel and Pixies mood the past couple of days too. Fall.

  12. phishm Says:

Totally agree aj. Janes was one of my favorites back in the day. IMO their best song is below. They put on a good show too.

  13. BingosBrother Says:

    Sent back.
Guess I was slightly late to the party. Possum!

  14. Jerome Garcia Says:

So aj care to critique Peyton Manning’s nearly flawless 1st half on MNF. We all know you’re watching intently. Ha!

  15. voopa Says:

There was a JA webcast last year I believe, from Terminal 5 as I recall. Nothing mind blowing, but a solid set. Took me back to seeing them at Cal Expo in 91 with Mary’s Danish and some joke of a rapper that I think was used to prank us. Fun night, precursor to the 7 GD shows I’d see there over the next 3 years…

  16. phishm Says:

Good interview of Perry Farrell about how bad the record companies are. The last minute of the interview is great IMO. Weird dude. Of course I like weird so theirs that.

  18. Jerome Garcia Says:

Wow joe. Ain’t that some shit. Addiction is a major motherfucker. Dug the clip. Ain’t gonna lie used to watch those cats bitd esp the days of Bingos avatar. Thx for posting.

  19. phishm Says:

I was watching this show the other day and it was about this frequency of sound that only some can hear. I wonder if…. Nevermind. It was cool though.

  20. phishm Says:

Anyway, back to Phish. This should get me through the night. Good show from what I remember. Been a long time.

  21. phishm Says:

Wow, I’m glad I took Peyton Manning with my 6th pick overall. Also glad I took the Bears D. Good call there MiA. Yep, winning my FF league. Easy money for sure. Good show I’m listening to. Quiet night. Guess it’s getting late. Night all.

  22. phishm Says:

One more important note. The Carini that follows that DWD that I linked is even more insane then the Disease. Just an fyi.

  23. vegas wolfmans Says:

The Veneta release is gold. Was familiar with the DS and Playin and the lore that surrounds, but the entire show is straight money to my ears. Norman crushes the remaster taboot. Great listening. Bravo.

  24. Slicksasquatch Says:

I can’t believe what a coward Phil kessel is . Absolute disgrace .its cause of a lil bitch like him that I live in pain everyday . So glad he is not a bruin anymore . He is a marked twerp now. Can’t get over that

  25. Jerome Garcia Says:

Pardon me meant to ask @MiA whether he caught Jane’s Bass Concert Hall show a yr or so ago. D’oh!

Where yinzers at in the Burgh!? Way to go Buccos!!! 1st post season appearance since ’92. From the bygone Leyland era w/ the likes of Bonds Bonilla Van Slyke Bream LaValliere aka ‘Spanky’ Drabek Smiley & fellow SCAHS alumni wonderkid Stan Belinda. I remember those days at Three Rivers fondly. Go Buccos!
