*****

Tweezer” 8.31 II

This late-set surprise completely blew up as Trey prominently featured his Camden ’09 “Tweezer” lick plucked from Led Zeppelin’s “When the Levee Breaks.”

***

Sand” 8.30 II

This jam provided the centerpiece of night one; the best version in a light summer for “Sand.”

***

Chalk Dust Torture” 8.31 II

The jam of the weekend at Dick’s—a multi-thematic monster anchored by the morphing rhythms of Jon Fishman.

Stash” 8.30 I

Though not quite on the level of Merriweather’s gem, this version elevates beyond the norm.

Carini” 9.1 II

A feel-good jam to cap a feel-good summer.

Caspian > Piper” 9.1 II

The second consecutive, out-of-character Denver “Caspian” segued, unfinished into a hot “Piper.”

***

Ocelot” 8.30 I

This was the jam with which the weekend began to elevate; my favorite version of the three thousand played this year.

***

Bathtub Gin” 8.31 I

A straightforward, though peaked-out and inspirational “Gin.”

Say Something > Walls of the Cave” 8.30 II

It didn’t take long for the band to place “Say Something” in the second set. Look for big things from this jam come fall tour.

  3. marcoesq Says:

Whenever I see ALO I think people are talking about the band

@df- i am not trying to sound like a “back in my day” grandpa here, but you are young. i would go out on tour in my 20’s with no hotel, tickets, a little bit of cash, and a huge sense of adventure. go for it. you will find a place to crash, you will find tickets, you will have an amazing time. the hardest part of an adventure is taking the first step. once you are in motion, the weight is released, and an adventure can ensue. if a hotel room and some cash are the only things keeping you from not going, then go. if you have other priorities, so be it, that is understandable- life is life. but if you are not going because of a hotel room, then i think you should reconsider. my $.02

Me too Marco. Have to admit some of their stuff is catchy. Have spun some of their Halloween & NYE shows at SOhO in Santa Barbara on the archive in the past & have enjoyed them. Caught some of their Pool Deck set on JamCruise this yr & the Lebo hosted JamRoom was def a fun time.

Phizznet says it was 4/21/93, the night of my 17th bday, when SOAM finally hit the big time. No recollection of what I did that cool Spring night up at olde Deerfield Academy. Didn’t hit Phish until that coming Summer at Great Woods…we were listening to those crazy sounding ’92 West Coast bootlegs non-stop though, courtesy of some hetty older brothers.

One major between 3.0 Phish and 90’s Phish though is ticket price. $25 vs. $70 is a big difference. Scoring miracles with $25 tix also infinitely easier than prices these days, people be looking at their bottom line.

Can’t imagine being a youngin trying to hit shows these days.

  8. marcoesq Says:

Shit Dorn, you went to Deerfield? Had a good buddy that went there, 5yrs younger though so you guys prob didn’t cross paths.

  9. DaNcInG fOoL Says:

@heady, okay, so how am i getting to virginia?

  10. marcoesq Says:

Gas also much, much more expensive than in the 90’s. Back in the day you could throw someone $10-15 and get a ride to any show. I don’t think Phish tour now and 20yrs ago are on the same level at all. Much more costly to hit shows these days.

  11. HeadyBrosevelt Says:

@marco- very true re: ticket price. i have always said that my hat is off to these 3.0 kids making it work. however, the only way for magic to happen is to be there. cheap tickets, miracle tickets, trade for tickets, face value tickets, sneaking in- the only way these things can happen is if you are there. that is all i am saying. tour is fun and magical- the strangest things can happen.

  12. DaNcInG fOoL Says:

    exactly marco

  13. DaNcInG fOoL Says:

well i’ll be at the halloween run %10000, still need to figure out rochester and glens falls though

  14. DaNcInG fOoL Says:

    10000%

UM Nothing Too Fancy off Hall of Fame 2010 $$$

  16. HeadyBrosevelt Says:

@df- that is up to you- take a train, craigslist a ride, hitch, get on a ride share site. you can get yourself there- think. once you get there you will be stoked.

  17. ren Says:

    Ya Mar 7/24/98 is (.)(.)’s

    That is all

  18. marcoesq Says:

These days, the cost of giving some kid a miracle kickdown could buy you Madden 2014! We should start holding Madden tourneys pre show on lot to win tix inside. I’ll crush y’all

  19. HeadyBrosevelt Says:

@df- that is cool that you will be at halloween. i thought you were talking about doing the full tour. if you want to be at hampton, and then have to get back to canada, then that might not be reasonable. do what you got to do- that is all i am saying.

  20. marcoesq Says:

Anyone catch Metallica on Stern yesterday? Pretty f-ing badass. Once they got warmed up they sounded great.

  21. BingosBrother Says:

I will fuck you up marco.

  22. Mr. Palmer Says:

    What up kidz?

  23. Stoney Case Says:

Indeed I spent my soph and jr years wandering those leafy avenues before my love for the green leaf got me a one way ticket home.

Surreal experience…from pulling up next to a line of limos for the first day on campus in mom’s honda, to my last day, telling my bawling girlfriend they expelled me, and feeling like my life was over.

The heightened emotion of being a teenager, the beauty of that place, right out of a fucking Separate Peace.

Best times we spent were along the river

  25. Mr. Palmer Says:

Had a few friends see Metalllica at the Apollo Theater the other night..

Phish should play there… tough ticket , you think?
