Dick’s Picks 2013

8.30.13 (Jake Silco)

Tweezer” 8.31 II

This late-set surprise completely blew up as Trey prominently featured his Camden ’09 “Tweezer” lick plucked from Led Zeppelin’s “When the Levee Breaks.”

Sand” 8.30 II

This jam provided the centerpiece of night one; the best version in a light summer for “Sand.”

Chalk Dust Torture” 8.31 II

The jam of the weekend at Dick’s—a multi-thematic monster anchored by the morphing rhythms of Jon Fishman.

Stash” 8.30 I

Though not quite on the level of Merriweather’s gem, this version elevates beyond the norm.

Carini” 9.1 II

A feel-good jam to cap a feel-good summer.

Caspian > Piper” 9.1 II

The second consecutive, out-of-character Denver “Caspian” segued, unfinished into a hot “Piper.”

Ocelot” 8.30 I

This was the jam with which the weekend began to elevate; my favorite version of the three thousand played this year.

Bathtub Gin” 8.31 I

A straightforward, though peaked-out and inspirational “Gin.”

Say Something > Walls of the Cave” 8.30 II

It didn’t take long for the band to place “Say Something” in the second set. Look for big things from this jam come fall tour.

I sure hope so Kaveh. I’m on the road a lot and have definitely pulled over on the side of I-79 in WV one time during a re-re. It all depends on the timing.

Crap I heard in today’s meeting:

“Well I don’t know if it’s ‘PC’ today, but it was 20 years ago.”

    “I’m good with visual.”

And someone pronounced “attribute” as “A Tribute.”

    Idiots rule.

  15. Jerome Garcia Says:

That should be more fun than a barrell full of monkeys. Careful though just cause it’s tranquil & serene Billy will dickpunch any & all if he runs out of supplies.

guys, go listen to Basia Bulat’s album and go see her this tour.

  17. hoedown Says:

The thing about AC 2010 was that those tickets seemed impossible, yet Friday and Saturday tickets were basically being given away for free out on the boardwalk…not sure things will be like that this time around, but it seems like people that get a bunch of extra just hold onto them until the showtime, then find themselves not taking time to truly market the extras and then just try to unload them quickly and cheaply as they walk in the doors….

  18. jtran Says:

Good call on the Troegs Perpetual IPA. Sounds like a good drink of choice for the night. Good stuff to say the least. And that Ghost that was linked up from 98 is amazing.

  20. MiA Says:

Definitely will be different coming off a 3 set halloween “big show” into Friday shows and Saturday shows to close the tour.

    Hello 2014 Ford Fusion!

    Def ready for tour now

(any fans of extended car warranties? Ford dealer said the premium 7yr / 100,000 extended warranty would be $1500. Hmmmm. Said no for now)

Plus folks holding their fri/Sats for Halloween trade bait. When they can’t execute a few of those will hit the boards for sure. I was even able to trade seats for floors 2 of the nites right out Front minutes before.

Few friends looking for Reading GA floors if anyone sees em.

  23. MiA Says:

I have 3 day Hampton for sale. Cash

  24. sumodie Says:

Jaco CR (Jungle Jam) isnt exactly a nice beach town but it has an amazing restaurant, Lemon Zest, where we held a bachelor party last December (some of you may remember my concerns about the chicas)

And for an incredible sunset view, head via car just north to Villa Caletas (thats where my friend got married)

make sure to read up on Jaco. Might be a great spot for a festi party but its not where Id go for a beach vacation.

Lemon Zest was soooooo good tho, wowza
