December ’95 Haiku Finalists
Here are the ten finalists of the December ’95 haiku contest. I put the names into a hat and drew three winners, who are highlighted in blue. Winners, send me your mailing address and I’ll get these out in time for the holiday. Thanks to all twenty-five people who entered a haiku! (I wanted to publish em all but thought it might be overkill!) Happy Holidays!

12/29 set II – flow was incredible. What a party!
only one set fell flat for me, 12/30 I. althought started off hot, i lost interest after Wombat. i liked 12/31 set 1 a lot. mix of old school, crushed Fluffhead to end it.
Think Chalkdust is the jam of the run for me. Some pretty original stuff, just loving every Chalkdust jam that comes out of the band these days.
Dick’s 12 and 12
Alph

Atl 12->WTU?
12/29 was interesting, but typical for the band in this era.
Allow me to explain:
Set one was all “elbows in” dancing.
Warm, thick welcome to the room with Moma. A pretty little Roggae.
Hair got a little out of place for that Icy breakdown, maybe the Gumbo a tad.
Passed by with little incident and no perspiration to speak of.
Strictly capable of dancing in front of my seat.
Real classy-like.
Carini transformed the place into a madhouse.
Spinning, raging, seething and joyous ring of fire stuff.
It was the tale of two different shows.
Both cool in their delivery.
Simple got blissed out for a minute…haven’t re-listened tho
People still get upset that Mike’s doesn’t get a jam? Come on.. it’s only been 10 years or so since it’s happened, maybe more..
I liked the rocker Ghost.. Thought Trey crushed it.
Yea, Telas, I thought 12/30 I needed a Melt after Jiboo, but they were coyly saving Reba & Melt for truckin
Yea Shred, Trey & Gordo collaborating like 2 dolphins playing in the sea during the end of Mock, and yes that entire set is beyond special
Phish Is able to put themselves in physical settings to push the boundaries beyond expectations or comprehension
Storage lockers, flat beds, towers, trucks parked in the middle of the Garden with no cover
There he is…Arty!!!
@marco – it quietly became a go to jam vehicle. isn’t there a decent CDT at UIC in 2011?
My last post petered out.
Sorry ’bout that.
Thought I had something more to say…
Simple is worth replay.
I really loved 30th set 2 Palmer
When playing the rankin game, my lowest rank by no means is indicative of not liking it
The only other 4 night run that rivals what i just consumed was BGC3 > Dicks ’12 for best 4 pack of 3.0 that I was in da building for
All killer, no filler run. No ballads until the encore of NYE, right?
I don’t think Mike’s has had a 2nd jam since summer ’98. Am I missing one? Hoping that jam splits in 2 is about just as likely as the Lushington all these kids are lushing for on Twitter.
Shit, I’d just be excited to see them rip a 10min version a la Vegas ’00 or whatever. Mike’s can still get down in 10min, just need to have the will.

@palmer – a powerful Ghost in its brevity. loved it and that Fish transition to Paug is an MVP of segues.
Phish has played exactly 1 Mike’s over 10min in 3.0. Camden ’11 at 10:18, and none of us have spoken word one about it since.
Yeah Tela’s, it really has. I’ll go back and check out UIC now. They’re so sneaky because most of em are under 10min and don’t stick out but so many have a little extra juice at the end.
^Chalkdust, that is.
I remember Mike’s 2/21/03 in Cincinnati was a great Mike’s. Polaris in ’00 (7/14) was pretty damn good
One last stat since I’m here, 2.0 produced only 4 Mike’s over 10min and only 1 (Cincy ’03) over 11min. It ain’t happening, folks.
Yeah MiA there’s been some great ones, I just didn’t know if they were 2nd jams or just one long one. Cincy 03 longest Mike’s of 2.0
Good point Marco. I think they are just long Mike’s jams. I never really thought of Mike’s as having a “first part” and “second part” until it was made obvious reading about it here.
Palmer, not upset per se about no mikes jam. Like the D2D, just had a glimmer of hope that for such a crucial placement of the song in the set and the 12/30 date and fans having mentioned to Mike that the 2nd jam is missing and mike saying “oh I guess I didn’t realize” yadda yadda yadda, that the Mikes might have been extended more. Clearly this last fall and NYE run shows that really anything is possible with these guys still…except Lushington. Because it is now part of Fluff. Just like stand alone Landlady won’t happen. Mikes 2nd jam could happen…what do I know? im just a fluffer.
Carry on.
Enjoying 12/30 I. Pretty solid. Where did the disconnect happen for you telas et al?
Me neither, but now it makes sense. They definitely do those ending power chords and then reboot from the ashes back in early-mid 90’s. I want to say Gorge ’98 might be the last one. Oh well, I just want to see them rip it again, 1 jam or 2.
*grovel, grovel*
lookin for a code to 29/30 – or a link for those shows. please and thank you.
fans talked to mike about the missing 2nd jam?
