  2. Type III Jamming Personality Disorder Says:

crosseyed and painless, stoney. we have roughly eight weeks to go assuming the schedule holds. so far they seem to be growing along just fine, though my wife is well past ready for this to be over. thanks for asking!

  3. P.S.H.S Says:

its a good thing I ate all those gel caps right before getting shut out of my first phish show (island 3).
which was also the first time I ate calamari, on acid.
not sure which event has had greater impact on my life to this point, I’ll revisit this question every april for the rest of my life.

I still create wonder and fun at shows, even if its just for me. The playing just has never been crummy enough for me to stop going…far from it in fact.

^ This shit right here!!! Just wish I could translate those powers better into the rest of life.

Also had a holy shit moment when Xpun reminded me of the Tigger dude at Nassau. I love when you guys jog my memory and help re-ignite those very vivid memories.

gel caps. Havent seen or heard of those in a while. Buddy and I bought 500 in high school to fund our summer tour saving and before we could sell one (we ate a few) someone smashed out my car window and busted open my glove compartment and took them all. That was a fun one to explain to mom and dad. Not to mention we had been fronted all of them and had to go on a payment plan. Needless to say, summer ’97 we didn’t see as many shows as intended.

yea Stoney, but Phishm’s Slave link was notable as a musical conversation he had one time, about a prior experience, at a different time and place, about a dream that revisits him on multiple occasions, all of which replayed itself that night, word for word, during that slopfest Slave. but really didn’t replay itself at all… you know man?

  9. Stoney Case Says:

    LOL! Best impression yet!

PSHS just made me laugh aloud here.

I gotta be careful with my Phish nostalgia here. Easy to listen to back through livebait or LivePhish and hear amazing kernels of magic. Then setting all those diamonds as being the “standard” for which to measure the next.

Previous to ’98 it was almost impossible to hear the show you heard the night before, unless you were a taper with a deck in your car. You had to wait for B&P’s and/or to post a 4000 part digest of a show you had to piece back together. And pray your 56K modem didn’t puke.

I have tendonitis now. If effects my guitar playing and golf. Went to the doctor, gave me a horrible wrist guard, and prescription of steroids. It kinda helps, but closing my hands hurts now. He basically said “at 24, your tendons are like brand new rubber bands. At 44, they are far less stretchy, and are prone to get irritated. It’s life. You get old.

Maybe Trey has problems, maybe he doesn’t. But it’s like watching Tiger Woods play golf now. You know Tiger isn’t crazy and gonna try something nobody in the world has ever done before, because … fuck it. He could.

Tiger’s goal now is to put it in the fairway, get appearance fees, and not hurt himself anymore and be entertaining. And enjoy that he can still do this and get paid for it. Paid well.

tl;dr Phish still rules. But no, they are not what they were 16 years ago.

  12. Calpain Says:

Really cool to read all the experiences and instances of stepping into the unknown, soaking in IT and sharing it w friends and strangers. It’s why I see this band. My fantasy realm to decompress and just be.

Hearing the first notes of the lizards from Camden 09, it all started to feel tangible again.

  13. roberto luongo Says:

apparently Jeff Beck and Billy Gibbons have different tendons. not sure how I stumbled upon this but check out the fuckin leads these nutters take. especially Beck. WTF.

    Beck and Gibbons Foxy Lady

  14. Stoney Case Says:

Keep it on the fairway Trey! Love it.

Digitech Whammy must be his ‘belly putter’

  16. roberto luongo Says:

Jeff Beck is from another planet. when I grow up I wanna play guitar like that

Water in the Sky fall fuckin apart. #09’d

  18. Kaveh Says:

DriveBy: 11.02.13 Tweezer is really, really good. Had been awhile since I’ve spun it.

  19. MiA Says:

Jeff Beck looks like Nigel Tufnel. Weird. I just listened to it, and find Beck’s playing to be boring ass blues shit. Same with Gibbons.

I think RL likes Blues way more than me. That’s cool. I just find it absolutely boring.

Put on Steve Ray Vaughan, and I’m going home.

  20. Stoney Case Says:

Kaveh, I think the stretch from Reading thru AC3 will go down as a peak moment of 3.0 along with Dicks 12.

  21. MiA Says:

That said, I have phenomenal Hendrix love, and off all of his music, the songs I totally dislike are Purple Haze and Foxy Lady. So that might have something to do with it.

  22. roberto luongo Says:

if you think that last run Jeff Beck plays has anything to do with the Blues MIA may want to go transcribe it

one of the most non blues based blues guys out there. huge heady fusion guy

Gibbons def straight blues. beautiful tone though.

I like clean tone and guys that play right. country, blues, jazz, whatever. just like cats on top of their game. Trey is far from that these days. both those cats Tones fuckin sing.

  23. roberto luongo Says:

I mean watch the Beck comping when Gibbons is soloing. fuckin NUTS!!

  24. MiA Says:

Ha ha. Obviously I am not the first to notice that.

  25. bobby weird Says:

hating on Stevie Ray? dang! loved that cat. awesome live.
agree Beck is def not the blues.
