Huge factor that can’t be overstated mia. Proximity, time, income all huge rating factors. I was so pissed driving to Detroit and back in 09. Thank gid for the other acts and city of NO. Backlash could’ve been way worse. A lot easier for east coasters to forgive a bad show.

It is different being a West Coast fan. Considerably.

  3. Ulysses S. Wingsuit Says:

I don’t think I could live elsewhere. They would probably run me home anyway.

Palmer how many shows did you catch in ’94? Favorites?

  6. little umbrellas Says:

Rockin the suggested Dancin Set closer. Jerry crushing it with the Mutron.

Thanks BB. I also endorse Palmer posting his 94 highlights.

Phish for me is, dare I say, backwards down the number-line. It’s the timeline of my life; I also peaked in 1995… my freshman year of college. It’s all relative now just like it was then. And now they’re my sentimental medium to try and get back there… and like the band, sometimes I get there and sometimes I don’t.

“If I can’t practice, I can’t practice. It is as simple as that. It ain’t about that at all. It’s easy to sum it up if you’re just talking about practice. We’re sitting here, and I’m supposed to be the franchise player, and we’re talking about practice. I mean listen, we’re sitting here talking about practice…. How silly is that?

Now I know that I’m supposed to lead by example and all that but I’m not shoving that aside like it don’t mean anything. I know it’s important, I honestly do but we’re talking about practice. We’re talking about practice man. We’re talking about practice. We’re talking about practice… We’re talking about practice. When you come to the arena, and you see me play, you’ve seen me play right, you’ve seen me give everything I’ve got, but we’re talking about practice right now.”

I first posted here after seeing Trey at the Disney with LAP. He definitely practiced for that shit…. Perfection.

My first show. I’m biased but if you want to catch a 94 listening binge, start in Bozeman, have your mind blown in the northwest, and then ride down into Cali. The energy is so effing unbelievable you can hear the band as if you can see them as quicksilver on stage and off the tiny venues’ sweaty walls. They cruised into those college gyms and were like “Check this out”

Mid set. Started Fizzling for me. Gonna save this Dead set for tomorrow and try again.

Coffee, mixed rip (triumverite), and getting into this Dorn mix. Wake up time, second wind take me far.

  15. Berkeley Head Says:

    JG I presume you’ll dig the horns….

talkin’ about the magic bus! In 94 you could ride that shit coast to coast and then back to the middle again for the cost of gasoline. Look at that Fall 94 tour….

    gasoline = $1.11/gal in 1994

  21. Berkeley Head Says:

The mushrooms to which I will always compare all other psychedelics came down from those 94 northwest shows (or someone said Teton Rainbow gathering). And then again the next year…. I typically don’t eat things that grow in the dark like fungus, but I’d already eaten a lot of Psilo by that time and I’m pretty sure those are the best that ever were…. And I assure you lots of kids were on them… and everyone was freaking out… mostly good… some bad… all melty. So fun. Been chasing that high ever since. I’ve always wondered if someone had dropped the mushrooms in with some Ayahuasca and went out on Phish Fall 94 for a sociological experiment or something.

You’re talking about azurescens @BH which are very much PNWs strongest offering. Still around but not the stuff u will find on lot with any ease.

Proceed w caution and respect from what I hear. Haven’t had the pleasure.

My experience on tues was humbling. Thank u Hawaii. Thank you Cy Twombly.

  23. Gavinsdad Says:

Palmer – I feel I owe sept-dec 95 a run thru. I always get totally distracted from that project.

I couldn’t possibly imagine knowing what T3 knows about the catalog. Mindblowing amount of study and discipline. Just the opposite of how I went about things. At the same time there was always a tape playing in the background and sometimes they were mine. But no matter what phase I was in when we were at someone’s house there were generally two other tape-alphas that “held the remote” I.e. manned the tape deck. Every group of heads has those guys. They are the psychedelic troubadours.

  24. Jerome Garcia Says:

Morning chaps. Gonna check both the Beacon GCH show & Rec Hall Cal Davis show this AM which I’m sure I’ll dig since my first show was also a Rec Hall show in ’94 just in PA & in Apr. Only took me 15 yrs to catch another one. D’oh!

Sorry for missing out on convo last nt…passed the truck out…finally starting to feel rested. Ha! Going to try to start to work on some brief daily JF recaps today/this wknd.
