A Change of Pace

With tour a week away, I wanted to write a note about some changes this summer. I have loved being a one-man newsreel for five years, cranking out pieces before going to sleep each and every night. I have loved the feedback from all Phish fans and I have always enjoyed the conversations that my reviews have sparked. However, I find this Summer Tour to be a good point of transition. As the band enters a new chapter in their 31st year, armed with an album of fresh material, I am going to step away from my at-all-costs commitment to reviewing every show.

This is not to say that I won’t be writing during tour, I almost certainly will. Maybe I’ll write on the off days, maybe I’ll write after some shows—I really don’t know. Because people have come to expect my reviews every day, I just wanted to put it out there before tour that I am not going to hold myself to writing after every show. Perhaps I’ll get bored without writing and I’ll switch back to my old routine. I just don’t know. I am also not positive that I will be at every show. I’m kind of playing this summer by ear. As always, thanks for reading along and I’ll see you out there.

@Miner, I have a great deal of appreciation for what you have done the last 5 years. Not only have you connected many of us to the day in and day out tour vibe via your reviews and blogging, but you have also created a place for like minded, and not so like minded, cats to chill online and become friendly in person and on tour. Thank you for that as always. Enjoy this summer however you see fit, like the rest of us.

Fishman interview is gold. Mike is Mike. And thanks @Lu for the follow up Fishman comments re Mikes jam part 2. Gives hope that one day Mikes goes back into the wilderness.

one of those random 90s one-hit bands ala Green Jelly, 4 non-blondes, Marcy Playground, The Toadies, etc….

whoa. wouldn’t lump The Breeders in with some of those one-hit wonders. side project of Pixies Kim Deal. delivered a couple nice albums. Pod is excellent. the band has some cred.

    Take that Fluffhead!
Frank Zappa – Civilization Phaze III (FULL ALBUM)

Music made at the end of his life, released posthumously. Listening. An example of music made at the tail end of a career that did not go pop.

    >adding on the ATL ’00 Tweezer or Desert. Respect sent to Gdad.

You too Dorn? Working on another one currently. Let’s see if this Lakewood Tweezer does the trick. I’m thinking it should.

  10. BingosBrother Says:

A single jam in Mikes would be a nice stepping stone to a 2nd jam.

hadn’t spun this version of The Connection maybe since 2010. tasteful whale usage. really nice performance. nice transition out of that very classic ’95 Tweez.

3 hours and 17 minutes of great music from Shapiro makes me so happy I could break another toilet and not care.

  13. MiA Says:

Whoever asked the question did it wrong.

“Question : Remember when you guys jammed songs other than Tweezer, Carini and DwD? Why don’t you do that anymore?”

filthy filthy Fish on that Gin

  15. BingosBrother Says:

I don’t know who you are anymore telas.

  16. tela's_muff Says:

ha. would it be my defense of The Breeders, or props for The Connection?

  17. sumodie Says:

new LP site a bitch to work on my phone, but finally dl’d Live Bait

Really enjoyed that CMAC Connection. Show opener with a beautiful sunset filtering thru the pavilion. Nice venue except for the ravenous cops in the lot. Dreaming of a stealth run to that gig this summer

Lined up Beck @ MassMOCA tmrw, Trey McIntyre at Jacobs Pillow Dance Festival Thurs, Ginger Baker on Sunday, Great Woods Tues

Summer’s about to get red hot, unleash the wombat!

  18. sumodie Says:

Also dig the Breeders. Too bad they couldnt pull their shit together

LU, I dont see that Fishman actually answered the question about why no Mike’s jam. Unless, in your post, he’s referring back to the radio interview when he said the band just collectively forgot about jamming out Mike’s one day and never looked back

Virginia Beach Fee is so good. My most favorite thing off the whole LB release.

Mr Palmer had it in his readers picks back in June last year as well as the JB Tweezer that Shapiro released.

  20. Poop goblin Says:

UIC gin is the fuckin bizness

  21. Poop goblin Says:

    never heard that fee

Just realized my livebait pulled into iTunes out of order somehow. Not gonna wake a sleeping puppy by going downstairs to change it, so just gonna deal. I think I’ll manage.

Connection, My Sweet One, now What’s the Use?, then Stash… So it goes.

  24. Stoney Case Says:

Nice bit of news. New Fish interview and a new livebait? $$$
