A Change of Pace

With tour a week away, I wanted to write a note about some changes this summer. I have loved being a one-man newsreel for five years, cranking out pieces before going to sleep each and every night. I have loved the feedback from all Phish fans and I have always enjoyed the conversations that my reviews have sparked. However, I find this Summer Tour to be a good point of transition. As the band enters a new chapter in their 31st year, armed with an album of fresh material, I am going to step away from my at-all-costs commitment to reviewing every show.

This is not to say that I won’t be writing during tour, I almost certainly will. Maybe I’ll write on the off days, maybe I’ll write after some shows—I really don’t know. Because people have come to expect my reviews every day, I just wanted to put it out there before tour that I am not going to hold myself to writing after every show. Perhaps I’ll get bored without writing and I’ll switch back to my old routine. I just don’t know. I am also not positive that I will be at every show. I’m kind of playing this summer by ear. As always, thanks for reading along and I’ll see you out there.

^code for corncob & his SLF’s sleeping puppy that he doesn’t want to disturb. My interpretation anyway.

    Hey folks—

Thanks for all the kind words in reaction to this post. Really touching to read everyone’s thoughts. As I said, I’m not ending the blog or anything, just don’t want to have to feel that I have to pull my self away from things in order to write a piece. Though it is fun, it’s also isolating and I am looking to further my connections with friends at this point. I’m sure I will continue to write about tour and shows, but just not gonna make it my #1 priority every night. I’d never gratify the haters by simply dissappearing. 😉

As much as my writing or this blog has meant to you guys, you all have meant so much to me as well. I have met tons of great people and some very close friends through this site. I don’t know why, but this place attracted an incredibly intellectual and eclectic group of heads and I have learned a great deal from so many of you. Good stuff.

    Re LB 10—

Amazing to see some more 99 sbds coming out. That fee jam might as well be the camden chalkdust without the huge trey lead melody throuhgout. @phishcrit noted this today. I always understood them to be similar jams, but the sbd really brings out their congruency. That UIC Gin is an all timer. Been saying that since the show. Love the MPP Mango finally got its props. Must have put that in at least 10 playlists over the years. Should have kept the set-closing Free that came out of the jam. Stupid What’s the Use inclusion without the Split that came next—that’s the highlight! Second WTU to be on LB? Kinda makes no sense to me, the song doesn’t really change. How bout some of those MLTs!? JB Tweeze is a classic that has never had a great tape. Great choice. Like to see the nod to the best 3.0 jams on these playlists. Dwd and Chalk are most deserving. The Connection? Huh? Seems pretty random. Great choices once again.

@Miner, I’ve met some great people from here as well, you included. I don’t make it here often, but am grateful for the connections I’ve made via the BB. Y’all know who you are and I’m glad this little ole’ blog brought some amazing folks together.

Word Miner. I think because you are very intelligent and eclectic that we flocked together. There is no better place to share the excitement of phish, tour and music as this site.

And some very funny guys and gals who are super solid people.

    Praise yah. Tour is coming.

    Respect @Miner.
Thanks as always, learned tons from the site. My musical brain has def been expanded by my time spent here.

  8. Stoney Case Says:

    When is the letterman deal?

    Miner, cheers!

JG’s on it. “Sleeping puppy” ain’t code for nothing. Just have a 4.5 month old pup who is much easier to keep an eye on when she’s asleep than when she’s up and moving about.

I want to say 5 pm pacific time tomorrow for letterman dealy.

So I will: 5 pm pacific

    That can’t be it jg.

In all honesty, this place is sometimes my lone reminder thatthe world still has good sane human beings on it. Such a special place. Hope the whole world can someday be half as good.

This place is my man cave. Take it away and I will cry like a little girl. Mark it.

@Sumo. Well yeah he does kinda say that sometimes the band just collectively forgets about things. And this post was from a direct response to the radio interview.
…But I wasn’t really saying that this statement of his explains why there is no second Jam out of Mike’s, just that he does actually remember it happening, and explains the evolution of its birth.
Nomenclature issue. He actually did know what the kid was talking about, he just never thought of it as a second jam.

  15. little umbrellas Says:

@StoneyCase, Fish interview is pretty amazing.

  16. BingosBrother Says:

    Just bustin your balls corncob.

  17. Gavinsdad Says:

Respect Miner. Always wanted a fiend to pen a blog but never expected your dedication, expertise or largesse. Like I’ve always said, your blog and the BB are two of the best and most unexpected things to come out of 3.0. Ive learned a great deal. Enjoy yourself this summer wherever you go and hope to cross paths where people are going off.

Summer has truly begun. No doubt @mia

I am a dumbass computer n00b. Can’t even get the Live Bait download to work.

-mobile device shows me nothing in ‘My Stash’ after downloading.

-Right click on the Mac Desktop here shows no ‘Download Link to Disc’ from the individual track listing.

I’m freaking hopeless with this stuff.

Umbrella fails in his attempt to hear Phresh SBD’s!

  19. phishm Says:

Make sure you have java installed and enabled. It won’t work without it.

  20. little umbrellas Says:

think I figured it out. ‘Save Link As.’ Perhaps I should have waited a little longer before embarrassing myself in front of all the BB Internet gods. ahh, now worries. 😉

  21. BingosBrother Says:

I had to go to my cpu to dl from livephish.com. Had to hold the control button down and click on each track with my mouse. Then I could listen on my phone. Good luck.

  22. little umbrellas Says:

Wow, this is a ton of music. Stoked.

  23. little umbrellas Says:

They really have made all this stuff fairly automated and user friendly. I’m truly am a computer n00b and now have this music off the computer here and on my phone.
