Holy shit is right. Pure hilarity. Laughed to the point of tears. My fav: Ethan’s Gone List…hammer his Legos…hammer everything he loves… I dig that lil girl’s style.

ha yeah that list actually put a smile on my face

  7. Jerome Garcia Says:

Dude you actually smile? That’s refreshing. There is a God!

  8. little umbrellas Says:

@win butler, that’s what everyone likes. Just go into any modern coffee shop.

Just when you think your grass isn’t that great, you practically break down over personal shit during Slave, then laugh to the point of tears because. Fish.

“I practiced nothing and know the words to no songs”

    “And here we are”.

“We have a request from the drum set”

    “Jennifer, hmmm, my dong “

  10. Jerome Garcia Says:

This is too good to get bottom page’d. Hilarious. Thanks again Df.

  11. MrCompletely Says:

just fired off an amazon music order of unintentionally hilarious over-eclecticism…tom waits, herbie hancock, flying lotus, sun ra, two tony rice albums (one bluegrass one jazz)…I look forward to their upcoming suggestions

given that I like the space groove material more than the true avant garde, what are my best Rashaan Roland Kirk album choices? my RRK catalog is utterly chaotic

  12. BrandonKayda Says:

Sun Ra is the man. Had a whole class dedicated to him in Comp. Seminar this past semester – professor ended up going on a rant about homogenization/sterilization of pop culture and etc etc.

  13. MrCompletely Says:

I basically have a lot of RRK songs and not much idea where any of them are from and I’ve watched a lot of YT vids and heard a lot of late night music “hey whats that” “oh thats RRK” and out of all that I like some of it very much and other of rather it less well…at some point I need to learn this catalog for real

  14. MrCompletely Says:

that was almost english but not quite

  15. DaNcInG fOoL Says:

i was also listening to MPP hood while reading that list so it was probably the combination that made me smile

  16. MrCompletely Says:

” professor ended up going on a rant about homogenization/sterilization of pop culture and etc etc”

that’s so sun ra. sounds like a cool prof.

  17. Random Poster...Nutbag Says:

Trey was almost sheepish about the Jennifer Dances drop. You can hear him saying “Don’t do it. Don’t do it now.” when Fishman brings it up and then he says something else I couldn’t pick up. Project what you will onto that. (I didn’t watch the stream so maybe I missed something)

Anyway, I’m a big fan of how this tour is sounding overall. Beyond the long form jams, I’m hearing things I’ve haven’t heard in 3.0. Little throw backs and subtleties I guess. Could be that I’m listening a little closer than prior tours, who knows. Either way, I can’t wait until Labor Day weekend.

Oh yeah, and I love Saw it Again for some reason. Those chords get me everytime, all the time.

  18. BrandonKayda Says:

Yeah @Completely he was legit. He would always incorporate history/culture into the music lecture. So like, if he was talking about John Cage and Steve Reich first he would talk for a half hour or so about the postmodern art movement and what led to it->minimalism in art etc. It was a fantastic class.

Dude also read Gravity’s Rainbow like 3 times – we would always talk books after class.

  19. little umbrellas Says:

Just barely made it through Gravity’s Rainbow once!

Still have a copy of the Bleeding Edge sitting around and haven’t begun. (Inherernt Vice level reading I’m sure. Wanna read Vineland again someday)

As for Kirk, there is a lot of the 70’s groove pop covers and stuff. (Never Can Say Goodbye, etc).. but not a lot or real Space music like Ra. A lot of his stuff pushes into the Avant Garde but still has a real frame work to it. dude loved the boogie. Like real jazz man.

Always a huge fan of his record ‘the Inflated Tear’. And his interpretations of Trane’s work is always a win.

  20. Elihu Says:

Just got back from a trip and watched the first set of last night’s show. I’m so happy right now 😀 Best first set in a long time. No spoilers’d. Thanks to everyone who helped make this happen.

I love how they give you the full setbreak on the webcast. Crowd noise at high volume. Set 2 awaits…

  21. BrandonKayda Says:

I can’t handle Gravity’s Rainbow. I tried so hard but I stopped like 60 pages in. Need to man up and try again at some point. It’s beautiful as prose for sure, just exhausting reading.

Halfway through Kafka on the Shore right now…

  22. little umbrellas Says:

Murukami is dope sauce. Think Wind Up Bird Chronicles and Hardboiled Wonderland have been my favs of his so far.

  23. Selector J Says:

@lilumb + anyone else that DL’d that roots mix

I broke that vinyl roots mix up into tracks, labelled it, and “remastered” it (i.e. tried to create a consistent volume level). I also indulged in an intro, courtesy of the late Michael Campbell (“…as I reach into my record box…”), and an outro featuring General Smiley but otherwise left it unmolested. Here’s the track list and the new and improved download:
