There is much of early Zappa that seems very satirical. I think a lot of people liked him for being an almost Weird Al of music of the 60’s. He loved it obviously and embraced it, especially to satirize Sgt. Peppers.

I think albums like Hot Rats, Grand Wazoo, and working with “serious” musicians like Jean Luc Ponty, George Duke, Aynsley Dunbar, The Underwoods, etc. That definitely was an opening to the “serious music” reputation.

That seems about right. I think basically the satirical/comedic element and the virtuosic music element switched places foreground/background wise. They were always both there but the focus changed. It’s probably also subjective in terms of what you value as a listener.

    True C.

I killed in FF this week. 260 points. Picked St. Louis D, which got 45 points. I’m all in hoping for others to lose.

For playoffs I take 1st place if SuperMex can beat Lannister Lions. He (Read I) need Tannehill to throw to Wallace for a TD. Then Lannister drops to 9-4 and I move to first.

    Not happening. Cause Tannehill sucks.

I didn’t play FF this year for the first time in forever. I found that it ruins the game for me. I root for players that I have starting even if they are playing against the Packers. That ain’t right. Back to just rooting for a team. I don’t even watch the box score anymore to see the stats of all the players on my team and the team I’m going against. That got frustrating. Anyway, I think I’ll go this route again next year. Less stress.

Ha, lots of bitching today about people who picked up the STL D and made the playoffs because of it, kudos, that’s a nice move

Hey Gang- Hope this finds everybody settling into the work week. All good here. Loving the Zappa talk. Been a little while since I have delved back in to that catalogue. Also, enjoying LL’s Fall Tour Jam Comp. Always fun, if a guilty pleasure…

JG- pretty sure DWD didn’t get legs until Summer ’96. Even then, it was far from the jam monster it is now.

  13. MrCompletely Says:

There are a lot of songs that are fine without a jam as long as they’re played in late 95 style
