I still enjoy electric miles but as time goes on I gravitate back more towards that earlier stuff with most of my very fav performances being from 1970. Though I am a huge Pete Cosey fan.

The later stuff I enjoy a little more on the handful of videos that are on YT because you can watch the interplay between musicians & the dorkiness of Gary Bartz & the majesty of Pete Cosey & the raging coke-sweat and gritted teeth of everyone trying to keep up with each other

Someone out there is still holding on to Betty boards

    1 show has never circulated

24 bit Island Tour … Is that even a thing.

I thought I’d upgraded my “borrowed” MP3s when I bought the CDs on discount from DryGoods, but for some reason they’ve always sounded strained to these ears, as if from a bad master

  4. MrCompletely Says:

if the masters were on 16bit 2 track DAT as I assume they were, the chances of ANY remaster being good enough to benefit from 24bit encoding are quite slim. If they have multis it’s a different story

65-68 Quintet is so deep. Wish I could hear more if that approach with the Bitches Brew tones.

Filles de Kilimanjaro is kinda like that.

  6. little umbrellas Says:

Phone always turning ‘of’ to ‘if’.

  7. little umbrellas Says:

The more instruments you have and the denser the tone palette, the harder it is tp improvise into a newly found synced up groove.

    Easily can turn to mush.

Phish is so amazing at what they do.

  8. MrCompletely Says:

aaaaand that’s why Filles is my jam

rolled out the title track at just the right volume for late night trippers at oh-dark-thirty in the Gorge campground

    Willy’s Headache (Cymande)
    Po’o’uli (The Dreamers)
    Moti Mo (MMW)
    Filles de Kilimanjaro (Miles)
    Xibaba (Donald Byrd)
    Silver Cycles (Eddie Harris)

$$$$ late night acid section there

  9. Mr. Palmer Says:

Anyone heading to WarrenHaynes Symphonic thing on Sunday at PNC?

I’m thinking this might be perfect show to take my 11 year old daughter to. Thoughts?

  10. MrCompletely Says:

Willy’s Headache (“don’t get too lost in your dreams…”) being the last vocals you hear in that mix for about an hour-plus, until Vibrate (Andre3000) brings it back

  11. jtran Says:

other examples of piper outro jam besides island tour?

  12. hoedown Says:

I think that would be a great experience for your daughter Palms… Gdad and I were discussing hitting that show. Will keep you posted on my end.

  15. lumpyhead Says:

  16. Mr. Palmer Says:

Let me know, Hoedown…spoke with Gdad a while back about it…kinda stuck up on me all of a sudden.

  17. lumpyhead Says:

  18. garretcorncob Says:

Nice Completely, my friends and I were spinning some Electric Byrd Saturday night post-show too.

Don’t think I ever mentioned, but attempted to make the trek over to y’all reeeeaaallll late Saturday night/Sunday morning. Think, like, 3:30am or so. First sketches of dawn starting to peak through. Ghosted into the admittedly poorly defended venue-side premier camping entrance, headed for the highest point and the tallest flag. Too dark to see what the flag looked like, so I think I found it, but all was dark and quiet, so peaced before I started looking too sketchy.

Were y’all up and I just ended up in the wrong spot, or had y’all crashed before then?

  19. ElJefe Says:

Like a Miles jam that’s free. Able to find new made up jams, and not just the established initial feel. Ornette philosophy applied to Miles style Modal rock.

LittleUm That is a fantastic description.. I love you man..

I always go back and forth on the Miles Groove Era.. I just hope peeps were getting down at these shows.. As a sit and listen “jazz” show I’m sure “jazz critics” were bored or didn’t get it..

As Rock, Funk, Rap, Blues, Prog, and Jazz fans I think if we went back in time our minds would’ve been melted..

Teo Macero deserves maximum props for his work on those Miles albums.. Wish Phish had a dude like that.. Jam for 20 hrs and have someone to slice and dice Jam Albums.. I volunteer myself of course..

  20. ElJefe Says:

    Great thoughts btw..

  21. Mr. Palmer Says:

    …and now I’m 6 minutes into the Island Roses….#bestshoweverattended

The Twist from the Mann last year , if I remember correctly, went into jam very quickly…no messing around that night.

Use the LP website to figure out which releases are available in HD 24bit

As said before, F8 and onwards is all available in 24bit

As for archival releases, it doesn’t appear that they’ve gone back to older releases and added a 24bit dl option. IE, no Island Tour, etc

Even Hampton Winston Salem isn’t available in 24bit and that was released in Dec 2011.

Amsterdam is 24bit. Not sure which recent archival release was the first to be offered in 24bit since I don’t have a ready list available to work from.

  23. sumodie Says:

Raleigh’99 is available in 24bit. Releases Feb 2015.

What archival show was released just before that one?

    (No 24bit for Ventura97 and Niagara 95)

  24. garretcorncob Says:

There was the ’94 one with the extendo Funky Bitch, right? Colombia?

  25. garretcorncob Says:

    Columbia, sorry. 11/22/1994.
