Early 3.0 Playlists: 2009-2011

Red Rocks – 7.31.09 (Graham Lucas)

About a month ago, a friend of mine who missed the first three-plus years of 3.0 was saying how Phish wasn’t very musically proficient in these years. I begged to differ. First, I started listing great stuff from each year in a group text, but then I decided to show him instead of tell. With the incredibly useful LivePhish app, I created extended playlists of the most relevant jams from these years. In addition to sharing them with some friends, I figured I’d share them with anyone and everyone who’d want to listen as a reminder of how exciting these years actually were. I find that 2009, 2010 and 2011 get a bad rap. Though the band was less consistent during this early comeback era, they did produce quite a bit of good music.

These playlists got quite long, so I most often included only the songs that had the jams and not the come down songs, so some tracks have abrupt endings, but in the end this doesn’t prove too obtrusive. If you have the LivePhish app, these links will open the playlists in your app. Enjoy!

Yeeee dude the Prophet is like a crazy power house of potential sounds. Thing is a beast.

Can the free streams be paused/rewound/etc?

4:30 local time is a little early for that, but would save it for later if that’s an option

With the Rhodes facing the back , with the Yamaha above it (the synth swells we’ve loved hearing since 1.0), the Prophet lives above that.

That back stack he uses the most sparingly. If you hear the Rhodes vs the Wurli it’s also often indicative of which synth he’s playing.

Love hearing the Rhodes now in the jam it’s so rare.

The wurli is the sideway facing stack, with the Voyager above it.

So the Voyager is much more for playing leads.
And the Prophet / Yamaha stack is for crazy effects and pads.

(Just my brain goin here, just mentioning cause you can kinda orient the synth sound with the proper electric piano sometimes.)

Only way I know to rewind & replay a live phish webcast is to stream via laptop / CPU. But not sure that method works for free webcasts

Haven’t tuned in yet tonight. I’m afraid I might sell my festi wristband if the show sucks ;0>

  14. Vapebraham Says:

Sick Wedge! Trey!!! Love those van Halen chords at the end.

  15. phishm Says:

Up from hell the answer blew
Up or down it’s up to you

  20. MrCompletely Says:

Umbrellas that was really interesting about the different stacks. If I get a chance in set two I’ll try to watch that and pick up more on which is which and the stylistic groups you’re talking about. Watching this set on the train split screen on the phone which is cool but not the best for really tracking detail

  21. MrCompletely Says:

Couple things in this set I really like better in the first frame – Birds, Limb, and this one

  22. phishm Says:

Looks like it’s very hot on stage. Page can’t stop sweating enough to keep his glasses on. First time ever I think I’ve seen Trey sweat. Clusterflies can suck it they’re left thinking.

  23. phishm Says:

Could be the weird cocktail they all took right prior to the set too.

  24. phishm Says:

and a world gone completely bat shit crazy. Mad is just being nice.

  25. sumodie Says:

Yup, free webcast can be rewound & replayed via LivePhish website on laptop, ie, as always
