Early 3.0 Playlists: 2009-2011

Red Rocks – 7.31.09 (Graham Lucas)

About a month ago, a friend of mine who missed the first three-plus years of 3.0 was saying how Phish wasn’t very musically proficient in these years. I begged to differ. First, I started listing great stuff from each year in a group text, but then I decided to show him instead of tell. With the incredibly useful LivePhish app, I created extended playlists of the most relevant jams from these years. In addition to sharing them with some friends, I figured I’d share them with anyone and everyone who’d want to listen as a reminder of how exciting these years actually were. I find that 2009, 2010 and 2011 get a bad rap. Though the band was less consistent during this early comeback era, they did produce quite a bit of good music.

These playlists got quite long, so I most often included only the songs that had the jams and not the come down songs, so some tracks have abrupt endings, but in the end this doesn’t prove too obtrusive. If you have the LivePhish app, these links will open the playlists in your app. Enjoy!

Mexico year one had the newness factor and came on the heels of a hot ’15. also, people bought into the notion that it was a family friendly phish event. It most certainly is not. was attendance down in ’17?

  4. dorn76 Says:

Not an option, Vape, the new top shelf is Esencia. Looks very nice, but its almost 2x as much. Money is part of the equation.

  5. dorn76 Says:

I’ll go to Europe with the fam or Hawaii ffs for that kinda scratch.

If I’m going it’s full wook in the dump with the rest of ’em.

    Narrator: he’s not going

  6. dorn76 Says:

Efforts to blow up my local NYE run will simply have to be redoubled.

  7. dorn76 Says:

Actually the Esencia ranges from more than 2x to almost 4x as much as the Midsclass Barcelo.

if i had the money, i’d go to MX in a heartbeat. especially with the Feb weekend this year.

or maybe i’d just spend that money on a HUGE tank of gas and spin some circus music in the woods with amigos.

my 25th Anny GD celebration was splendid. i went down to my favorite bouldering area- which is in a giant aspen grove, which is so fucking vibrant with color right now.

i was the only dude in those woods- the whole place to myself.

i climbed shirtless at the top boulder- which gets so much western sun. it was so warm with September sun- which is perfect sun in the high country. too hot for my flannel. colors everywhere. that boulder is my Buddha spot. i just thought about how silly, rad, funny, ridiculous, and awesome it is that one band was able to flip my life in a such a wild way. so fucking grateful.

after climbing at the top boulder, i moseyed on down to the highball pyramid boulder area. my last climb was the highball up the pyramid with a big fat joint in my pocket. got to the top and burned it with the aspens’ yellows, reds, and oranges shining, beaming, and glistening all around me. i said, “thank you.” i was home by 7:00. when i walked in the casa, MamLos was spinning the show- Fire on the Mountain was playing. The last song i heard before i lost service was Scarlet Begonias- fucking perfect.

before climbing, i went into the local pot shop and asked if they had any footlong joints. the girl said, “no”. i said, “can you double check in the back.” ha!!!!! i told her i was celebrating 9.13.1993 and explained the “reasoning”. she got a kick out of it.

celebrating that 25th was a big deal for me, dorn. i’m pretty fucking lucky to have seen and felt the GD and Jerry Garcia- even if it was the waning years. that 9.13.1993, Philadelphia Spectrum, is my fucking show, yo. the haters can hate it, but it means so much to me- that’s all that matters. there is no show more important to this mountain hippy.

Heady I feel ya, now I want to hold a party in honor of that giant outdoor GD party (my first) back on 6/17/91. In fact it can be extra festive, for both 6/17/91 and the 25th anny of that show I missed celebrating on 6/17/16.

    Sucks you guys missed ‘89
