Early 3.0 Playlists: 2009-2011

Red Rocks – 7.31.09 (Graham Lucas)

About a month ago, a friend of mine who missed the first three-plus years of 3.0 was saying how Phish wasn’t very musically proficient in these years. I begged to differ. First, I started listing great stuff from each year in a group text, but then I decided to show him instead of tell. With the incredibly useful LivePhish app, I created extended playlists of the most relevant jams from these years. In addition to sharing them with some friends, I figured I’d share them with anyone and everyone who’d want to listen as a reminder of how exciting these years actually were. I find that 2009, 2010 and 2011 get a bad rap. Though the band was less consistent during this early comeback era, they did produce quite a bit of good music.

These playlists got quite long, so I most often included only the songs that had the jams and not the come down songs, so some tracks have abrupt endings, but in the end this doesn’t prove too obtrusive. If you have the LivePhish app, these links will open the playlists in your app. Enjoy!

I, for one, would appreciate a fall tour that wasn’t during an even year. Or even just not in October in an even year. That’s literally the one time I absolutely cannot get out of work without straight up quitting (which has occurred to me).

  13. Leo Weaver Says:

Yep, y’all need to catch David Byrne if he’s coming to your town. Great show, lots of fun. Me and the Mrs. were about median age, maybe even slightly under. Folks were up dancing most of the show. Tough to sit still. 2nd time seeing him (first was with St. Vincent) and will not miss another if I can help it. There’s just so much art going on, music is only one piece.

Yes @Wolf re: Benjamin Clementine…absolutely amazing. I was completely enraptured. Deep rich voice with serious range and tone control. His work on the ivories was pretty stunning as well. Told the guys in front of us I felt like I’d gotten my $$ worth just watching/listening to him. Not music for every mood or setting, but I’ll be donating to his efforts in short order.

Re: tour dates, I can get on board with a weekend in Hampton!

  14. dorn76 Says:

Aside from lacking some Worcester dates (Albany basically the same thing though not in T3’s backyard), that’s is a fine little destination tour.

  15. dorn76 Says:

    That’s is what’s it’s is, ok?

  16. Selector J Says:

Really want to try to catch Hampton if those dates hold up. That would put my 100th show on Sunday of that run. Having my 1st show & 100th show at the Mothership would be kinda cool.

  17. Selector J Says:

Been listening to the NOLA Tr3y shows a lot. Fun shows. Treybone really getting after it. Making me really look forward to what Summer Terr has to offer.

  18. Selector J Says:

@Leo – My buddy Tom who lives in Charlotte was at that Byrne show. He also was pretty jazzed about it.
