Nassau Wins the Title

Nassau Coliseum

#1 Nassau Coliseum 52 #1 Auburn Hills 36

In the championship game of Tweezer Madness, Nassau Coliseum’s ’03 version took down the Palace ’97 and captured the trophy. Although the game was competitive, the result was never truly in doubt, as Nassau grabbed an early lead and was able to maintain separation throughout the game. The only 2.0 Tweezer in the tournament out-dueled the Fall ’97 favorite in a battle between two defining versions. We caught up with Nassau in their champagne-soaked locker room, and the champ had this to say, ” We want to congratulate the Palace on an amazing season. That’s a nasty Tweezer over there, and it deserved to win as much as we did. In reality, Auburn Hills is a deeper, more psychedelic jam, but we had the advantage of length, and you know what they say—size matters. I want to thank all the voters that came down on our side, and we are happy to represent the much-maligned era of 2.0 in taking home the title.”

The Palace version offered it’s own take. “I can’t say we’re not disappointed, but its no embarrassment to lose to that monumental Nassau version. That middle section of music is as good as anything the band has ever played. I thought the score would have been closer, but sometimes things just don’t fall your way. They started the game quickly and we could never quite catch up. On another day, I think we could have defeated the Nassau squad. It was an honor to play in the national final, and it’s an experience we’ll never forget.”

It was a game for the ages, and the fitting end to an amazing month of music and basketball. It was truly a fun event and a joy to watch unfold. Hopefully people got exposed to some new versions and were able to revisit some old favorites along the way. And that brings Tweezer Madness to a close. The selection committee and Uncle Ebeneezer would like to thank all of the voters who helped make this tournament happen. We hope you’ve enjoyed the experience, and we look forward stepping into the freezer together in a little over a month as we prepare for new versions to unfold. Until then…please her with a Tweezer.

  2. shred Says:

    At least Charlotte was solid.

  3. shred Says:

There is no reason why they aren’t playing Charlotte level nightly. I don’t get it. and i never will. it was a good night for them but easily achievable nightly.

6.22.19 SYSF – $$$. keeper. happy, ornate, mellifluous jam. this style feels like an amalgam of previous jam styles, like the hot new cannabis strain dreamt up by breeding wizards.

  5. kayatosh Says:

seriously, spin that 6.22 SYSF – GD jamming vibes as Page channels bruce Hornsby at around 11 minutes.

  6. Hans Says:

6.22 SYSF is legit. Super legit. The drop into wtu wasn’t necessary.

St.Louis II is the Best stuff of the tour still. Twist Completely and Light are all on the level. MPP II is next the C&P ER Ruby Waves sequence is great phish.

Other than this there’s really not much going on. Big Birds is more miss than hit just really unfocused and messy. And haven’t heard Charlotte yet.

Tour is on knifes edge right now. Could take off or go summer 16’ on us…

  7. Hans Says:

Very concerned there hasn’t been a standout jam of note yet. And the 1st sets are missing.

But on the plus, they seem engaged and the sound and direction are terrific. They could very well blow this thing wide open

I feel ya Hans. Keep the faith in the nerd quartet from Vermont. There’s a Bangor powder-keg brewin’. Who’s gonna light the match?

6/11/19 Stash. Pharmaceutical Grade stand-out jam.

  9. phishm Says:

Just wondering what’s wrong with this show. I don’t not like the music this band plays, so there’s that.

  10. Hadtohavethat Says:

    Not so simple simple!!

  11. Fly Says:

That show was absurd. Full mind meld. Trey sounds so fucking good. Gin, Limb made a great first set. Disease and Simple were unreal. Great, great fucking show.

  12. Kayatosh Says:

The Fly report has me stoked for tomorrows listen. Thanks sumo for the ear support

  13. Joe Says:

Agree with fly. Great show all around last night. Venue is very chill. Looks like ticket trees online but actual show had decent crowd size. I had this weird notion that the music from all the northern Maine shows of the past is still floating in the air for the band to connect to.

  14. Doc Pro Says:

    What’s up BB?

Been listening along, and so far this tour hasn’t blown me away like Fall 18. Better than summer 18, but so far it’s been hit or miss IMO.

A solid 1-2 true highlights a night, and a few peak jams so far, but way too many 4th quarters go into TAB jukebox mode, with a string of sub-8min songs.

Sure I’ll be eating my words by my first on Saturday at Camden. Also have Mohegan on deck. Hope to see some of you guys there!

  15. uncle-jimmy Says:

Hey signal fucks! El oh el. Smiley face.
Get back to black, yo. We can talk about gramma’s shingle boobies again…

  16. uncle-jimmy Says:

I 100 percent believe in venue energy linger, Joe. Some places just have that special magic floating around in tiny little energy particles.

  17. kayatosh Says:

i can feel the Bangor magical musical vibes from here. well sensed, joe. Maine!

still catchin up with MPP 2. Xeyed>ER>Ruby Waves(!!) is $$$ material. thank you, Phish. Ruby Waves jam has that moving through water in space propulsion feel. in a streamlined space submarine cruisin through the ruby waves. Page laying it on thick. so ear tasty

yo, Doc Pro!. i got 50+ keepers form this tour already. not too shabby.

  18. kayatosh Says:

Typically you won’t hear much crowing about Divided Sky, but the 6.19.19 version is $$+ masterfully done with passion and grace. nice feels

  19. DaNcInG fOoL Says:

Jimmy, the bb doesn’t save my info anymore. So I have to enter my dumb nickname and email every time I post now. So I did that just to tell you, no I’m not posting here anymore.

  20. kayatosh Says:

there’s a reserved, patient, cool watery quality to the jamming this tour. dig it!

  21. Cal Says:

Shitting on that Birds? Hans you would’ve hated the ’90s. Way too jammy and eclectic for you yungins. Hardly any generic bliss jams and WOOing.

Trey is playing great, even in some of the trickier compositions, crushing type-I. Laying back in a lot of jams and letting Mike lead, but lots of great moments of interplay in the better shows. I didn’t know we were back to gimmicky segue fests being the only worthwhile Phish shows. Really hoping Alpine sucks as bad as Blossom and MPP 2.

  22. Andrew Cluley Says:

“We can talk about gramma’s shingle boobies again…”
$$$+ guess you can call it a bust out

  23. Cal Says:

(Agree with Dr. P though, fall ’18 was way better so far.)

  24. uncle-jimmy Says:

D Fool! Hey buddy! That was kind of endearing in a way. Thanks.

  25. Phamily Berzerker Says:

    Hey Kiddoz!

How is tour here? I’ve caught some streams and remain pleased that the band is still playing.

Some of us play ourselves so well.
