Nassau Wins the Title

Nassau Coliseum

#1 Nassau Coliseum 52 #1 Auburn Hills 36

In the championship game of Tweezer Madness, Nassau Coliseum’s ’03 version took down the Palace ’97 and captured the trophy. Although the game was competitive, the result was never truly in doubt, as Nassau grabbed an early lead and was able to maintain separation throughout the game. The only 2.0 Tweezer in the tournament out-dueled the Fall ’97 favorite in a battle between two defining versions. We caught up with Nassau in their champagne-soaked locker room, and the champ had this to say, ” We want to congratulate the Palace on an amazing season. That’s a nasty Tweezer over there, and it deserved to win as much as we did. In reality, Auburn Hills is a deeper, more psychedelic jam, but we had the advantage of length, and you know what they say—size matters. I want to thank all the voters that came down on our side, and we are happy to represent the much-maligned era of 2.0 in taking home the title.”

The Palace version offered it’s own take. “I can’t say we’re not disappointed, but its no embarrassment to lose to that monumental Nassau version. That middle section of music is as good as anything the band has ever played. I thought the score would have been closer, but sometimes things just don’t fall your way. They started the game quickly and we could never quite catch up. On another day, I think we could have defeated the Nassau squad. It was an honor to play in the national final, and it’s an experience we’ll never forget.”

It was a game for the ages, and the fitting end to an amazing month of music and basketball. It was truly a fun event and a joy to watch unfold. Hopefully people got exposed to some new versions and were able to revisit some old favorites along the way. And that brings Tweezer Madness to a close. The selection committee and Uncle Ebeneezer would like to thank all of the voters who helped make this tournament happen. We hope you’ve enjoyed the experience, and we look forward stepping into the freezer together in a little over a month as we prepare for new versions to unfold. Until then…please her with a Tweezer.

oh yes, boys and girls, camden 3 set I is sunshine on a cloudy day – all those sweet bustouts and semi-bustout rarities, among my faves. i would have been beyond tickled to hear all those rare gems live. strong set.

20 YL is immaculate mellow. at the very least, $$$

the Tweezer has palpable verve, purpose and snap. trey doing finger calisthenics on the fret board. sustained multiple orgasm peaks for a good 5 minutes ($$) before the 2 min. melodic space chill-down outro ($$$$). however, not hearing dis Tweezr as anything beyond $$$ more about personal taste, because there’s no ?ing that they went for it. love those last 2 minutes. keeepr.

20YL takes the camden 3 crown, arguably securing the elusive fourth $

Bangor Fuego – $$$$. tour jam champ contender

  4. kayatosh Says:

Tela scores. Trey with some sweet lower register work. fuck, this guy came correct this tour. lettin it loose and finding some magic finger work of old. genuflect. guitar god

  5. kayatosh Says:

Camden Completely gets fat juicy, mysterious at 7 mins. throbbing and spacey by 9 mins. space carousel by 10 mins->portal’d->return to the Completely beat->classic rock guitar repeated riff w/ classic rock style guitar soloing by 13 (starts to become more mundane here as trey digs deep in the earhole – this grinding intensity gets revisited more successfully in the body of the tweeZer jam)-> back to Completely theme.

manitonba, this is great music! so free and elastic up to about 13 minutes. where’s it going to go? don’t care. Phish fantasia transport. yet another keeper jam. what a band!

Bangor fuego was a definite “what song are they playing?” moment in real time for me. Had nice dance party going in the vip deck area.

(end of night video wife took of me. I’m the anti-kaya. still had energy to burn after 2 shows and 2 days of hiking)

resting up for 3 out of 4 starting Friday. Skipping Saturday Fenway for lakeside bbq and then onto Mohegan for the shows of the summer. Love outdoor summer phish, but will be nice to get the full indoor phish I think.

    Cotten-eye Joe’d. Bravo.

Vapeski. say it isn’t so with that two dollar tweezer Jazz. Me thinks you will redact that score in the future.

  9. Andrew Says:

Can’t claim the call but a buddy of mine thinks they will do a full TMWSIY story at Mohegan, hence all of the Soundcheck practicing and old school bustouts.

Camden 3 gold – and soul cleansing – very nice to be in house. Don’t forget the electro bop of tail end of meap. In house in the moat it was 1976

Camden 2 was pretty meh, but that Divided Sky is cash money. gorgeous, crisp, grab-you-by-the lapels-and-plant-a-smooch-on-your puss potent. Not a tune i’m jonesin for at a show, but Trey delivers with this confident, gnar version. old school elevationism. keeper. jah live

  15. kayatosh Says:

Major hail in Jerzey Saturday pre-show

6.29.19 ER finds that sick voodoo groove. Fish is like metronome. so steady. 4 headed hydra. >Guelah. well done old school fave. this tune is easily botched; this version triumphs. $$$ lyrics. rhinotropic micro-gaze

  16. RoosterPizza Says:

The eldest Rooster and I are about to pull off a cannonball run to SPAC. Her favorite songs are Ghost, Antelope, and Fuego. Wish us luck!

Kaya – great to meet you and some of the crew at Ed’s Hoagie Throw Down on Saturday. Fun watching the hail rain down from his garage. Sorry you missed Sunday’s heater; Saturday was more fluff/jukebox but being my first show of the year I certainly danced my ass off in the moat. Had a blast with you East coast heads. Thanks for buying my extra lawn on Friday – I managed to secure face for my 2 Sunday lawns with minimal effort on Sunday; and even managed to hook up in the moat with everybody a few times ( from the ADA section ) on Sunday. Cheers!!

  18. kayatosh Says:

20yr later is deep dank full band night jamming with no destination in mind. Completely is a similar style. Requires more spins to properly understand. Regardless Great phish. More of this please.

  20. uncle-jimmy Says:

Mike with the liquid laser droplets in this scents intro. Colors in the void. I love this song so much. Trey just letting the music breathe so well. Dude has reached that mega Jedi level, able to sit back and let it all get some air. For real man, dudes killing it on that six strang.

  21. Cal Says:

You know it’s bad when Troy is vocally embarrassed by how bad it is. Yikes.

  22. phishm Says:

Still upside down twenty years later. Missed most of last night. Dug what I heard. Stoked for tonight through the glory hole. Pretty cool what they did the other night in Camden. Good as it gets that music sounded to me.
