Summer ’09! Finally!

header-newThe dates have finally been posted. After many different sources have leaked dates, Phish.com has just posted the first leg of summer tour with the help of another cool announcement video featuring the mysterious Santa Monica skywriting and a “Punch You In the Eye” soundtrack.  The dates are as follows:

6.04.09 Nikon at Jones Beach Theater, Wantagh, NY
6.05.09 Nikon at Jones Beach Theater, Wantagh, NY
6.06.09 Comcast Center, Mansfield, MA
6.07.09 Susquehanna Bank Center, Camden, NJ
6.09.09 Asheville Civic Center, Asheville, NC
6.16.09 Fox Theatre, St. Louis, MO
6.18.09 Post Gazette Pavilion, Burgettstown, PA
6.19.09 Verizon Wireless Music Center, Noblesville, IN
6.20.09 Alpine Valley Music Theater, East Troy, WI
6.21.09 Alpine Valley Music Theater, East Troy, WI

Tickets are now available for request NOW right here!  Interestingly enough, when these go on sale to the public, they will be sold by Live Nation and not Ticketmaster. I’m not sure if that changes much, but we shall see.

At first glance, what jumps out are the two Tuesday night performances at the Ashville Civic Center (7,654 capacity) and the Fox Theatre in St. Louis (5,060 capacity)!  Those are some TINY shows for this era!  Surprising is only one night in the cornfields of Noblesville. Phish has played only multi-nights stands there since 1997. Two nights at Alpine in the perfect closer for the initial summer leg.  Don’t be surprised when Bonnaroo is inserted between Ashville and St. Louis.  This looks like a great and manageable first leg. See you on the road!  More to come…

n6458611289_1701897_7613PHISH PRACTICING IN NYC AGAIN: On the day of the big announcement, the band has been found in NYC in a studio space on West 25th.  Apparently, standing outside, one can hear very the music clearly.  Songs that have been played today are “Reba,” “Seven Below,” “Wolfman’s Brother,” “The Curtain,” “NICU,” “Cavern,” “Farmhouse,” and “Army of One.” PT’er whosgotmybud posted this small update:

Trey sounds siiiick. definitely using a compressor. Mike is dropping BOMBS. you can hear them thru this garage door right on 25th and every time mike drops a bomb the whole garage door shakes.

Exciting stuff in this part of the world!

I know a lot of people seem really worried about tickets or the possible lack there of. I’m just going to try to talk everyone down off the ledge.

I might be crazy but I think tickets will be not nearly be as hard to come by as some people think. It seems most folks are looking at this through the lens of what happened with Hampton. It’s a question of supply and demand. Hampton was a feeding frenzy because up until today it was the only game in town. Now that more tour dates are announced, with more on the way (West Coast…still holding my breath!!) the pool of people who are trying to get tickets to each show should be smaller. Most of us who were on the road in the 90’s are now in out 30’s with jobs or kids and unable to do an entire tour. I think many folks are going to wait until the boys come to their neck of the woods. Yes, some of the shows are in small venues. But most of them are in big outdoor amphitheaters. Hampton’s capacity is 13,800. Compare that with Camden’s 25,000 capacity or Alpine Valley’s 40,000!!! person capacity. All of this just means MORE TICKETS for everybody!!!! I know Phish 3.0 will be a different world and for the most part we are going to have to just wait and see. But staying positive is the key. It’s going top be a rad Summer.

Just think – SUMMER FREAKIN’ TOUR!!!! WoooooHoooooo!!!

so for us newbies who haven’t seen phish before…

anything we need to know? 😛

  3. Asher Says:

“Set the gearshift to the high Gear of your soul.”

  4. Camman Says:

    Asher-

    Amen.

    Any other instructions?

  5. Asher Says:

    @ Camman
Hmmmm….Everyone’s tour experience is unique. A few things I learned-

    1. At outdoor amphitheaters the best place to get down is the concrete walkway between the lawn and the seats (that is unless the usher is a dick)
    2. Figure out where you are going to crash before the show to avoid the post show chaos.
    3. Use days off to visit local State and National Parks.
    4. Know the laws of the states you will be traveling through and only carry what you are willing to pay the consequences for should the fuzz pull you over. EEEK!
    5. Don’t forget….You’re there for the music.
    6. RAGE RAGE RAGE!!!
    7. When Trey says “We’ll be back in just a few minutes.” He means “We’ll be back in about a half an hour.”

That’s just a few thing’s I could come up with off the top. Mr. Miner, maybe “What I Learned On Tour” could be a future post topic to help all the kids seeing their first shows or doing their first tour.

    oh, and lodging

  10. Rutherford T. Brave Says:

Everything Phish is, does, and will ever do should never be a source of complaining. Every decision, show, song, and idea that flows from the mighty river of Phish should always be a source for the utmost rejoicing. I only hope the hummus burritos taste as good in Asheville as they could have in Tampa.

I love what Asher, shawn and Rutherford have to say. This is the first time that I will see Phish at Alpine on Sunday night…and only one night at Deer Creek!…WOW! I was hoping that Phish would play Alpine on a Fri. & Sat., but we all have to deal. This is the Phish! Try to make the shows that you can. Once that this happens, your shows will come true. I recommend that everyone rejoice at Alpine Valley!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  19. Henry Holland Says:

    To add to Asher’s list:

8: Always have plenty of water/juice/liquids with you–having drank all one’s water, having really bad cotton mouth and no one around you having any water during a raging “Piper” at SPAC 6/19/04 is not fun, not fun at all. 🙂 Some of those gigs could be sauna’s and a visit to the medical tent wouldn’t be my idea of good time at a show.

A little disappointed that no West Coast dates were announced, but that’s just a budgeting issue. It’s really happening and after the nightmare that was seeing/hearing my favorite Phish song, “The Curtain (With)” butchered beyond recognition at Coventry, it’s nice that that won’t be my last memory of live Phish.

That list of songs from the rehearsal space would make a very tasty first set!

  20. SquidMonola Says:

May i be the first to say, welcome back to BURGETTSTOWN!!!!! is everyone over looking this venue!? always an amazing show! last time i was there, 7-29-03.. My first phish show. Daniel opener! first set was so tight! camel walk, jibboo, cool it down, SAOM (mule not split!), fee>timber>circus, mcgrupp, and a super tight golgi closed the first set. it was a beautiful july day, and when the sun went down and phish took the stage for the second set, no one could fathom what was coming.. after a first set jam packed with rarities, what was left?
crosseyed>one hell of a jam! INCREDIBLE! >thunderhead.. gave me a chance to catch my breath, before they busted into brother.. then a pause while they chatted on stage then – OOM PA PA OOM PA PA OMM PA PA OOM PA PA OMM PA PA-AHHHH!! HARPUA!! bittersweet > harpua – the transitions continue – but – jesus! in the story about Jimmy he was searching for IT – HELL YES! i was leaving in two days for IT! (a 38 hours bas trip north, followed by 10miles of hitch-hicking because the bus driver wouldnt stay in the traffic, some locals picked me up and took me on a hell ride through the woods in the back of their pick up @ prob 85 mph.. but, they left me at the gate!) i cant believe it – phish is back – PHISH SUMMER is back –
Next to my beautiful girlfriend, and my dog (bug) is phish – and summer – and when they come together – ahh! too great for words –
please – stop the complaining – phish is back! without them we wouldnt be here, at 2:00 am reading 80 some posts about dates – they are all of our common tie – come on guys! whatever the venue may be – we get to see them once again – Coventry had some high points, some low points, but it will no longer be our last memory of the Phab Phour – (which for some reason instead of the curtain i always picture the first set of the second day, i had a blast, i was finally out of the mud and up on the stones – mikes opener – it was a blast – well – enough rambling for now
TODAY IS A DAY TO REJOICE!
I am happy for all of us – and for you Newbies – you can try to get yourself ready, but YOU HAVE NO IDEA what is coming – its too incredible for words, and i only got too see them 03 and 04.
my piece of advice – show phish sober! you don’t want to risk missing um. i saw only intoxicated for one set at IT, and i regret it. phish will take you to another level, a place no drug can take you.
    party after the show!

congratulations everyone! see you on the road!
    peace – will

I still can’t get over the Fox Theater show. I was thinking about it this afternoon, but I believe that Busch Stadium was a rumored concert location at some point over the past few weeks. Jeez, talk about the exact opposite venue. I think I have to try to get tickets…I mean, I can’t afford and don’t have the free time to go, but if my name gets drawn, it was meant to be, no?

  22. Pence Says:

I love that picture of them. Looks like they are having a great time. I know I would be. Fish looks a little more husky in those studio pics. Hilarious

  23. J Leduc Says:

I’ve been reading through these comments and I like what I’m hearing. Two things I want to emphasize in terms of what I hope for in Phish, and the larger phamily’s future: 1)IT IS ALL ABOUT THE MUSIC! All this other stuff about dates and choice of venue is meaningless. If Phish can be tight, inovative and frankly awe-inspiring like they were in the 90’s, then we all have cause to rejoice. If, on the other hand, their music is average and uninspiring, well, they can play ten nights at Deer Creek and it would not mean shit! 2) IF PHISH SHOWS = DOING DRUGS TO YOU, PLEASE FUCK OFF! Seriously, I’ll be puffing down at any show I can get into, so don’t get me wrong. It is about the music and friends and dancing….before it is about getting high. And as for hard drugs, they have no place on phish tour. Please.
    GOOD MUSIC NOT GOOD DRUGS

  24. bjslick Says:

Loving the comments by the parents and your wives. We debated bringing our kids to deercreek until i heard that they needed a ticket and no strollers or wagons.

And when I told my wife they announced summer tour i get a very different response.

“Can you mother handle them for that long”

The moment seems to hang and float Before me with no end ’till I’m released, awaken beast I’m on the road again.

  25. mosesmauzy Says:

aren’t the tickets from asheville thru ticketmaster. i like live nation. they too have high sure charges.
