Overshadowed by Hartford and SPAC, the opening show of the summer’s final four-night run flowed well, had copious highlights, and set the tone for the end of tour.  The first set under the tent featured the darker bustouts of “Dinner and a Movie” and “My Friend” while carrying one of the outstanding “Wolfman’s” of summer and, in my opinion, the most engaging “Bowie” of the second leg.  The second set opened with a exploratory “Drowned,” sparking the unique highlight of “Drowned > Caspian > Rift.”  A smoking mid-set “Antelope” set up a revelatory “Fluffhead” closer.  This show is a real dark-horse, and deserves more attention than it has garnered.

I: Sample In A Jar, Dinner and a Movie, Wolfman’s Brother, My Friend, My Friend, Possum, Farmhouse, Sugar Shack, Brian And Robert, David Bowie, Bathtub Gin, How High The Moon, Golgi Apparatus

II: Drowned > Prince Caspian > Rift, The Horse > Silent in the Morning, Sparkle, Run Like An Antelope, Suzy Greenberg, Fluffhead

E: Joy, First Tube

Phish cohesively strung together this unique run of songs to begin the second set at Darien.  Look out for the standout “Drowned” jam- totally patient and fully realized.

Now Seriously, who’s going to Black Rock City?

  2. Mitch Says:

I love the dude waving fingers and pumping fists for a while at the beginning of the first antelope clip posted today. Reminds me of something I’d do at the start of an Antelope.

    Phish fans = dorks.

  3. Wax Banks Says:

    This ‘Rift’ is bullshit.

  4. sumodie Says:

@gorgingheavenly: i hope to return to black rock next year -phish grabbed all my attention this summer. have a blast if you’re going!

“Phish fans = dorks”…and very proud of it 🙂

@sumodie…were you the one that posted a couple of coffee-related links a couple of days ago? If so, what was the other one (not coffeegeeks.com)? Thanks…

About to run to the farmer’s market to pick up something for dinner and grab some of my fall garden starts…then back home for my Saturday morning hippie speedball and “headphone sessions” (some Chance Fisher then the MPP show in the que for today)

  7. Leo Weaver Says:

And from my limited listening to-date, I recommend you guys check out Lycanthropy’s band Chance Fisher if you haven’t already…good stuff!

  8. Neemor Says:

I want LampPost from the Hartford Soundcheck to lay for me every time I walk into a room.

  9. Neemor Says:

  14. Leo Weaver Says:

we’ll call it columbian ice cream this morning…and i’ve got some actual blueberries too 🙂

@neemor…where’s that hartford soundcheck? I recall it being mentioned yesterday…

  15. Neemor Says:

    It’s a free d/l off of livephish.com.

7 minutes of pure sillyness from Trey and Fish.

    A must hear.

  16. Robear Says:

Morning all! I enjoyed Darien, big time! Cool staff, and tons of room in the pavilion. Did I mention the humidity? My shirt was off half-way through ‘Bowie’, my reminder that I was a long way from home. The ‘Gin had a nice, wide open, organic jam as well. Following ‘Bowie made for a big dance and sweat fest.

I’ll always remember that night as ‘Trey’s Anniversary show’.

I checked out that “zzyxx” stat site last night, and realized that SPAC was my 75th show! Also realized that I catch ‘Guyute’ way too often : )

How I make coffee? I steep some fresh grounds in a cup for about five minutes, kind of like making tea. I then pour it into another cup through a filter and one of those plastic filter holder that sits on top of a coffee cup. Very thick and rich! Try it once. Similiar to a ‘French Press’, but it works with a finer grind, and you don’t get grit at the bottom.

  17. Robear Says:

Light or Medium Roast preferred ( more caffeine ), fair trade or organic please.

  18. Leo Weaver Says:

    cool…thx neemor

@robear…interesting coffee method, I’ll have to give it a go. BTW, jsut picked up starts for broccoli, brussels, and kohlrabi for the fall garden…got a little work to do this afternoon.

  19. Lycanthropist Says:

    @ Leo –

    thanks for the plug.

    y’all check it out.

    give me some constructive criticism.

  20. Lycanthropist Says:

I could use a nice big cup of coffee right now.
Its tough to find around here, but there is one shop that hooks it up right.

Im gonna go get myself some cold-brewed coffee.

    Emmm mmmmm

  21. shpongleyez Says:

    thanks for the tip, neemor!

  22. Robear Says:

Nice Leo! I toasted some of our fall starts by leaving them in the hot sun all day. dOH! Must find more at the nursery to replace them, argh..

I second the ‘Chance Fisher’ recommendations. Stuff is really easy to pull off of Mr. Completely’s file share link.

Lyacn, I loved your story yesterday of your musical progression, and someone dropping Phish on your unsuspecting ears!

  23. Lycanthropist Says:

    @ Robear –

Thanks, however the stuff on Miner’s drop is not necessarily the first Chance Fisher I would recommend.

If any of you are interested go here:

    http://www.4shared.com/dir/8640325/4c31096d/sharing.html

Pick up 6.13 and 8.08 and then go from there.

    Thanks guys

  24. Lycanthropist Says:

or if Mr C doesnt mind I could upload the proper shows to his account

  25. Mitch Says:

    Neemor,
I dont see the free download on livephish. Have a link to help a brotha out?
