Overshadowed by Hartford and SPAC, the opening show of the summer’s final four-night run flowed well, had copious highlights, and set the tone for the end of tour.  The first set under the tent featured the darker bustouts of “Dinner and a Movie” and “My Friend” while carrying one of the outstanding “Wolfman’s” of summer and, in my opinion, the most engaging “Bowie” of the second leg.  The second set opened with a exploratory “Drowned,” sparking the unique highlight of “Drowned > Caspian > Rift.”  A smoking mid-set “Antelope” set up a revelatory “Fluffhead” closer.  This show is a real dark-horse, and deserves more attention than it has garnered.

I: Sample In A Jar, Dinner and a Movie, Wolfman’s Brother, My Friend, My Friend, Possum, Farmhouse, Sugar Shack, Brian And Robert, David Bowie, Bathtub Gin, How High The Moon, Golgi Apparatus

II: Drowned > Prince Caspian > Rift, The Horse > Silent in the Morning, Sparkle, Run Like An Antelope, Suzy Greenberg, Fluffhead

E: Joy, First Tube

Phish cohesively strung together this unique run of songs to begin the second set at Darien.  Look out for the standout “Drowned” jam- totally patient and fully realized.

Lycan – really like Horse in the Forest. Are all Chance Fisher members phans?

  2. Lycanthropist Says:

    @ JP –

    some are, some arent

funny we have actually been able to appeal to people who generally don’t like “jambands” or improvisational music.

I mean granted, our biggest fans are heads, but we have drawn some mild-punk crowd as well.

  3. Lycanthropist Says:

    @ JP –

thanks, by the way. Horse is one of our oldest tunes, and one of our most blatantly Phish influenced, but we still really love it so we play it every now and then.

    What all did you grab?

  6. JP Says:

    @ fat b = high

@ lycan = 8.8. Interesting on the fanbase and band makeup. You guys make quality music – best of luck to you in terms of expanding to more ears. Horse is def pretty phishy.

  7. Lycanthropist Says:

    @ JP –

Thanks every ear counts. Help us spread it round. I am working on a blog site right now. It is gonna feature weekly live selections and all the news and updates for the band.

    re: Chance Fisher –

I want to thank all of you that have taken the time to listen to Chance Fisher. We have all come to the point where we have to be proactive to get the music out there. I know it can be tough to take a chance on some random dude saying hes got a band to check out, and thank you for giving us a fair listen.

Thank you especially to Mr. Miner for being gracious enough to let me shamelessly self-promote. Ha ha.

Any one who is still interested: I have started a Chance Fisher blog at http://chancefisher.blogspot.com.

Please subscribe if you are interested. I will be posting weekly selected jams and various other goodies.

Again thank you so much for the kind words and the open ears.

I had not. A little gem from the early days.

  14. voopa Says:

There’s all kinds of stuff around trey.com. Most of it is on an open directory up a couple levels:

    http://www.trey.com/_content/bands

I really like the stuff from last year.

  15. Lycanthropist Says:

    hey voopa and marshall

you given up on the “collective listen” idea Marshall?

  16. BrandonKayda Says:

i am about to dive into 2.28.03, should be cool…

  17. voopa Says:

    Lycan,

I’ll be checking out your stuff soon. I just got an iPhone, so I just got iTunes, and realized that I have a huge mess of music to deal with on my PC. When things calm down, I’ll check it out.

  18. Lycanthropist Says:

word check out the blog http://chancefisher.blogspot.com

  19. Marshall Says:

Lycan – no tour has a show every night, not even the virtual kind 😉 We’ll give it another try soon. Suggestions for a classic show to spin are welcome. Should be one that was traded heavily – a la “Bomb factory” – hmm, maybe that will be the next one.

  20. Lycanthropist Says:

I’m thinking the Japan 6-14-00 Release maybe?

  21. Marshall Says:

@ voopa – it took me quite a while to get my library organized. That’s the difficulty with digital music. On the flipside, I love not being constricted by 80 minute disc space.

  22. Marshall Says:

Hmm – I don’t have that one. Actually the bomb factory is a bad idea – probably should stick with downloads available on this site – so that people can listen to the same tracked recording.

  23. Lycanthropist Says:

ahh yeah.. didnt think about that

  24. sumodie Says:

@leo w: the better coffee link is
    http://www.terroircoffee.com

apparently founded by a legend in the coffee world named george howell. sells microroasts, plus some good basic info about coffee, etc.

    ***
keep those music libraries organized. i learned the hard way that its best doing it right the first time -like adding seperate tracking numbers. dont put’em where the song title goes.
thanks for the heads up on the mp3 library editing software.

  25. sumodie Says:

im so ready to get bassed! saw mikes band 3 times last year -they can melt your face. luv seeing mike in the lead role. and scott m. can rip! will be @ the somerville ma show, & maybe portland me if i have time.
