    I’m a big dub guy

I’d grab all the Scratch and Tubby I could get

maybe some of the old school toasters like Uroy, Iroy, or Big Youth

maybe some Augutus Pablo or Prince Far I if there is some

  2. halcyon Says:

Robear….AW recommended a while ago Max Romeo and The Upsetters War Ina Babylon. Great record.
    Grab some Culture too.

  3. albert walker Says:

    halcyon

if you have never heard it

you would probably dig the dub version of War Ina Babylon

    the Upsetters- Super ape

    one of scratches coolest records

  4. Robear Says:

thx, fellas. Grabbed an Augustus and a Prince Far I last time. I’ll start stacking up the Scratch and Tubby and Culture.

All right, I’m gonna start with ‘African Dub All-Mighty Ch. 3 & 4’ produced by Joe Gibbs and The Mighty Two

  5. c0wfunk Says:

@aw – diggin on that 7-29-97 you were pimpin the other day.

Love the gumbo and tweezer for sure. Both are full of that raw enjoyment and passion for the funk that makes summer 97 so fun. And they both develop unique magical themes at the end too. Interesting too how both fade into Trey’s “I want to hide” songs – dirt and swept/away

Diggin this set 2 opening possum now, unbridled energy throughout this show. Even Sparkle stood out to me. soon we get to the 20 minute antelope, should be fun!

  6. c0wfunk Says:

    ahh

mny tracklist is screwy – possum is encore I see. Olivia’s pool opener – strange! This song is so weird..

  7. c0wfunk Says:

and when I said tweezer I meant ghost of course

    sheesh

  8. albert walker Says:

    yeah cow

that show got lost in the hype of ventura, shoreline, gorge that would follow as far as west coast summer 97 but for that raw, fun, open style jamming that one is probably the most creative and unique

a lot of people missed it and just started at Ventura and went up the coast

one of those hot shows everybody missed nights

    crazy setlist, great playing
    can’t beat it

I’ve heard that archive release of the Gumbo SBD recently
    really nice

  9. albert walker Says:

the Olivia’s opener just adds to the tonight we are going to play what we play and how we want to play it vibe of the whole show

band is having a great time
can hear it in almost all the songs

  10. stitchstash Says:

halcyon & voopa, Thanks again for helping me with the torrent stuff. So far it is working just fine. I haven’t tried eetree yet but it is on my list of things to do. I hope everyone had a merry day yesterday that was full of cheer.

  11. c0wfunk Says:

yeah they are loving the pool for sure .. antelope drifting into some dark territories here in the middle

  12. c0wfunk Says:

ahh and here come the funk licks. Interesting antelope wah loop dissonance

  13. stitchstash Says:

Nice, Miner has 7/29/97 in the archive. I just started my download. I can’t wait to listen. I love the show suggestions you guys throw out there. With so many shows to sift through, it is nice to hear about the true gems.

  14. c0wfunk Says:

the one I’m listening to is from the archive – sounds very nice, clear bass, crowd noise in the right place. Good aud.

pretty good antelope, maybe a little droney in the middle but pretty cool overall.

  15. albert walker Says:

    yeah funk

the antelope is more unique and interesting than mind blowing
    but cool none the less

the twist and gumbo are the real high points musically

  16. c0wfunk Says:

forgot about the silly little loop in the early velvet sea heh .. This song got so much better after the album rework..

    Soon to twist..

  17. Robear Says:

    filling up with reggae.

‘Psalms of Drums’ Carlton Patterson and King Tubby

  18. halcyon Says:

King Tubby’s work is great. He has a cool story on how he started producing. Repaired radios, tv’s, and other electronics with no formal training, then got into the recording/producing side before he met his tragic fate.

  19. Robear Says:

    nice^halcy

    importing
    King Tubby and Soul Syndicate
    Freedom Sounds in Dub

  20. BrandonKayda Says:

Just listened to the 11.29.97 Jim.

    Wow.

    I’m taking a break for a bit.

  21. Mr. Completely Says:

nice article – unsurprising considering it’s mostly just Trey quotes

    the iPhone thing is cool

  22. c0wfunk Says:

@brandon – nice! Glad you liked it man 🙂 Good stuff

the next night has some great highlights as well – “heavy metal jam” out of wolfman’s w/ trey singing sanity and esther, and a great stash>free>piper centerpiece in set 2 and “them changes” encore

  23. Mr. Completely Says:

after asking for rec’s yesterday I found a stash of about 10 shows from 95 and 99 I d/l’d from Miner a few months ago, guess I’m all set

  24. c0wfunk Says:

I guess this is old news by now but have ya’ll seen this norway spiral??
