Weekend Nuggets: The 4th of July

DOWNLOADS OF THE WEEKEND:

Official Alpharetta Poster

Phish celebrated July 4th with to in Atlanta’s northern suburbs with the third patriotic weekend of their career. Finishing tour with four sets of energetic music, the band created an all-out party vibe for the tour finale. Within the two shows, improvisational highlights emerged in “Bathtub Gin,” “Antelope,” “Tweezer > Slave,” “Jibboo,” and “Piper > Ghost.” Finishing Independence Day with Rage Against the Machine’s ” Killing in the Name,” sandwiched within a comical, revisionist-history “Harpua” narrative,  Phish created their own pyrotechnics for the holiday.

    i like sugar shack

  2. Leo Weaver Says:

@KWL…I like Sugar Shack…in 2010! 2009 versions not so much. Trey finally got his parts right this year and I think Mike and Fish tweaked their parts as well. It feels a little more reggae-ish this time around.

  3. Robear Says:

the atl ‘piper’ gets pretty ferocious, before cooling off and funking out in the middle

  4. joe Says:

the back to back videos of walk away 20 years apart was nice. I like how Trey’s muscle memory reflex hits and he starts bouncing up and down like from the earlier version. Page looks so much younger it’s scary (I guess we all can say the same…except bk who was still but a twinkle in his old man’s eye)

  5. Jtran Says:

Here’s the Albany 95 YEM on video

    http://phishvideos.blogspot.com/2007/12/12995-yem-goes-silent-in-albany.html

The third part has the silent jam back into YEM, total hose

  6. AintNoTele Says:

holy shit, I just happen to pop in for a second to find the video of my favorite YEM of all time!!!!

    Thanks a bunch Jtran.

  7. SillyWilly Says:

only in America would my supervising attorney schedule a mandatory meeting at the same time as the World Cup championship.

the rest of the world is shut-down.

    damn it.

  8. KWL Says:

    dear phish,

please play a fall tour that moves from west to east sometime in late october.

also, don’t make me go in nebraska again.

    regards,
    kwl

  9. SillyWilly Says:

    Dear Phish,

    Ditto.

    Best,
    silly.

  10. KWL Says:

    pregame soundtrack = mpp 1

looking forward to hearing the rr & tweezer again

  11. Gavinsdad Says:

Ohhhhh…the “power dank” yem….that show was sick…we made it to Albany early that year…hung at the Ominous Seapods house before the show…drive back to Brooklyn the next am for work (!) was not fun.

So do we have a consesus on the Hood of leg 1?? Just listened to the first 4 and they all have merits…think cmac has it right now…and I really never comment on the whale…but I feel like Trey is really getting to a better place with it…even these hood solos have a nice interspersing of whale and “pure” notes…at the shows I saw I liked seeing where he’d use it (quite alot) vs the little rippy trills/runs/phrases where he went whaleless…think this current tone exploration will solidify even more come fall.

  12. Jtran Says:

Funny story..when I was younger (thinkings 8ish years ago) I somehow found an image online of the DC00 poster and printed it off on nice photo paper. It’s been in my room above my mirror ever since (even though I really had no clue what Dear Creek was, or that the shows there were good). Just realized today what I was staring at, 10 years later 🙂

  13. KWL Says:

i think my vote still goes to blossom hood @gdiddy

  14. Jtran Says:

Trey does some nice stuff with the whale @9:25ish of CMAC Hood, all the way up to the peak

  15. El Duderino Says:

I made these for robear when he came to NC. Funny, now there posted on bt.etree.

These are the Deer Creek ’00 in-house feeds I was talkin’ about a few weeks back.

These are nothing to right back home about, but they are better than all circulating audience pulls. If you do not have these I’d get them. Until something better shows up these are the best circulating sources for these two shows.

  16. Gavinsdad Says:

Blossom Hood has that real nice Page moog work/Fishman acrobatics right before the “climb” …nice call kwl…hard to find a fave! Bowie study up next.

  17. Robear Says:

    duder is right. thanks brotha’.

much better sound than the other two sources of aud’s that i’ve tried.

  18. Mr.Palmer Says:

I’m a fan of the Blossom Hood as well.

Duder- thoughts on those ’81 Miller’s?

  19. KWL Says:

went to visit some good friends in rochester the other night

their wedding is what’s luring me back east for the JB shows

over dinner they casually mentioned that it was 46 days ’till the wedding (they’re not really phans, though both have been to shows)

big 46 days coming at JB

  20. El Duderino Says:

    @ Palmer

I just downloaded those from LL this morning. I have not listened yet. The Cassette > Reel thingy makes me a little nervous but after talkin’ to people this is typical of ’81 – ’82 tapes. However when C. Miller puts something out it’s with intention of putting out up-grades only. If it’s a Miller it’s always the best circulating source.

  21. Gavinsdad Says:

I like mountains in the mist

  22. Robear Says:

that was nice g’daddy. hadn’t heard ‘MitM’ since ’03 Shoreline.

  23. Mr.Palmer Says:

Acoustic Mist @ Fest 8, only other 3.0 version?

  24. Phamily Berzerker Says:

    Dear Babbs,

It’ll behoove ya to take care of your vuvuzela!

    Love,

    Sis

  25. Phamily Berzerker Says:

And page has some real nice work in Heavy Things from the fouth.
