Taking this week’s “Jam of the Day” theme right through “Weekend Nuggets,” this installment is all about ‘Tweezers.” This Memphis show from Summer ’95 contains the “Mud Island Tweezer,” one of the most extended and iconic explorations of the song in their career. At a time when the band continued pushing boundaries of jam-length and abstraction, this “Tweezer” clocked in at over 50 minutes, but when listening, boredom never comes into play. One of the most famous versions taboot, if you haven’t heard this, clear an hour of your time, sit back, and relax. Phish dropped one for the record books on the banks of the Mississippi.
I: Don’t You Wanna Go, Gumbo, NICU, Mound, Cavern, Possum, All Things Reconsidered, Amazing Grace*, The Horse > Silent in the Morning, Spock’s Brain, Split Open and Melt
II: 2001 > Poor Heart, Tweezer > Acoustic Army, While My Guitar Gently Weeps
E: Simple, Rocky Top, Tweezer Reprise

Type II Trivia Results: With little competition on day 2, “Rippin'” Ross Bellenoit ran away with this contest with a remarkable 26 out of 30 points! Identifying every track and only missing a couple specific dates – what I thought was most impressive is that he only missed one year out of ten. By blowing away the competition, Ross wins his choice of CD: Trey’s TAB at the Tabernacle or Mike’s Moss. Kudos, Ross! Jeff D. put in a a noble effort, nailing half the selections, while Brad P. rounded out the double-digit scorers with 11. The entire results and answers are below. (If your name is not listed, it is because you scored no points. Better luck next time.) Thanks for playing!
- Ross B. – 26 pts
- Jeff D. – 15
- Brad P. – 11
- Ethan W. – 8
- Andrew B, Lex P – tied w/4
- Dave L, Ryan B, George – tied w/3
- Dagan S, Chris – tied w/2
- Matt P, Rick D – tied w/1

Quick question: I think my wife’s name is secondary on my credit card. If I make an order with that card, and then she puts in an order with a different card (without my name anywhere on it), could we get DQ’d because her name is also attached to card #1?
@ Dr. P
I can’t imagine they’ll dig that deep – or if they even have the legal/logistical wherewithal to do so – considering the thousands of orders they deal with. Also, one person w/ multiple cards is fine anyway, I think the only DQ situation is multiple orders on one cc#. FWIW, I made a similar move.
anyone around???
I’m lurking Mitch. Watching the new Family Guy. Pretty good so far.
Mitch, just saw your post from earlier. Can’t think of anyone looking right now but I’ll keep it in mind.
Anyone see Dexter?? Love it
@Dr. P
Gotta torrent it, hopefully it’s up tomorrow.
Getting set for the new mad men here. Turns out our next door neighbor’s daughter is the guest director tonight. Also, she wrote and directed humpday, if anyone saw that. Pretty weird.
Merriweather 2000 Theme->Dog Log. That is all.
And FUCK I can’t believe that was over 10 years ago. Probably the last time I was with my old tour buddies all in the same place.
Sidenote: You’re getting old when you can’t believe something happened *only* 10 years ago.
this season of mad men has been so amazingly well done. and funny as hell.
mad men is the best show on television. best since the wire. sorry losties.
What up, vegas? What did you think of Furthur? Glad I didn’t look at the Eugene setlist before having the privilege of getting soaked and watching a decent show notably short on setlist p*rn. Had a great time with summer98 and his wife though. Glad I went.
TG- I went in with zero expectations and ended up having a really good time with some old friends in town from New Orleans. Thought the show was a fun/ high energy/ Saturday night rocker. Really enjoyed Fantasy, Wheel>Fire, and Rider. Wish they’d kept So Many Roads and Death Don’t Have in the bag. Nothing life changing, but I shook my ass while getting soaked to the bone. Would do it again… I remain a huge fan of Jeff Chimenti and Joe Russo- thought he was the driving force behind the more focused playing compared to what I saw last summer with “The Dead”. Also, was that Hurley from Lost singing backup? 8)
Sorry we didn’t hook up. Perhaps another time.
Weird to hear Rider without a China precursor and Fire without Scarlet. Probably best I don’t compare at all- nothing good will come of that. Was it fun? Yes. Did it make me miss the real thing any less? No.

Coral Sky Hood. Off the chain.
@VW
Dunno if you saw me mention this before, but at my first Furthur show we got both China > Rider and Scarlet > Fire, and in my two shows since then I’ve gotten a Rider and Fire both times… Weird!
GC- There was kind of spacy segue between Wheel and Fire, but to hear Rider all by itself was strange. Not bad, just so used to hearing the drop from China. Forgot they could exist apart. For my own sanity, I’m now really done making comparisons between the two bands.
Do yourself a favor and watch that Coral Sky Hood. Seriously.
g’night.
Good call VW, definitely glad I watched that! Gorgeous…
The Coral sky HOOD just made my all-time TOP-3 list. Others being Hood 11/22/97 and 03/18/97. The Julius is also absolutely awesome.
Over the weekend I just listened to some Summer tour 97 shows…Virginia beach, Atlanta, Dallas… and I must say – WHAT A TOUR! Shapiro needs to release all shows from that tour. In my view it even tops the popular Fall tour 97…
Morning BB.
That Hood is pretty sweet. I love how the band all watches Karl Perazzo try to follow Fish in the sections leading up to “thank you mr miner”.
No way he was catching on to that insanity on the fly.
Have a great day everybody.
