A Winter Playlist

Blizzard!

It seems like just about everyone in the country is getting slammed by snow and winter weather this week except the west coast. Even though the sun in shining outside my window, I put together a winter and snow themed playlist for your snow days, slow work days, or fireplace listening sessions. Each selection has a blurb connecting it to snow or winter.

***

Seven Below > What’s The Use?” 12.27.10 II

After fans braved blizzard conditions to get to Worcester this past December, Phish dropped this winter-laced highlight among new crystals of New England snow.

8.10.10 (G.Lucas)

Walls of the Cave > Carini” 2.14.03 II

Though this gargantuan excursion took place in Los Angeles with no snow in sight, it happened in the dead of winter, kicking off the band’s 2003 return to the road.

***

You Enjoy Myself” 12.9.95 II

With snow pounding the area, Phish pounded their instruments, dropping the virtually-agreed-upon greatest “YEM” ever.

7.10.03 (A.Markarian)

Slave to the Traffic Light” 12.5.97 II

A driving Midwestern snow storm separated many fans from this show, but when they got to Cleveland, this unorthodox “Slave” was but one of the treats found inside.

Bathtub Gin” 2.22.03 II

This “Gin” provided the centerpiece in the final set of a snow-filled weekend in Cincinnati along the road ofย  February ’03.

Tweezer” 2.28.03 II

An all-time winter classic from Nassau ’03.

Jam of the Day:

Twist > 2001” 8.6.97 I

An early version of “Twist” that turned into “2001” at sunset at Riverport ’97.

DOWNLOAD OF THE DAY:

12.17.1999 Hampton Coliseum, Hampton, Virginia

Megaupload < Link

Hampton '99 (Pollock)

This relatively lackluster effort would be outshined by its surrounding shows, though deep into the night, Phish threw down a dark horse “Split” that salvaged the second set. In addition, the second set features a massive psychedelic soundscape that was used as the music behind the band’s comeback announcement. This Hampton show goes out to Hampton resident, Justin, via reader request.

I: Piper, Meat, Sparkle, Jibboo, Punch You In the Eye, When the Circus Comes, Water in the Sky, Twist

II: Birds of a Feather, The Moma Dance* > jam > Bug, Jennifer Dances, Split Open and Melt, Character Zero

E:The Old Home Place, The Squirming Coil, Loving Cup

* w/ Birds teases

    phurst :p

about to head off to work in the snow and ice, once I’m there I’ll be giving these selections a spin.

  2. st8 of mind Says:

Didn’t get as much snow as planned in the mitten. Still enough to scare people from coming to work. Sitting by myself at work with Miner’s playlist raging. Thanks Miner.

  3. phoammhead Says:

we’re snow free in the south, too, and love the playlist nonetheless – thank you Mr.Miner! ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. poop goblin Says:

Serious exercise walking through the drifts to get to the train. Train empty. Pussies scared of a little snow

Thanks for the playlist miner. Making for a nice ride in.

I’m not as well versed in my ghosts miner but this rcmh ghost is the sickest I’ve heard. Glad I’m finally getting to these epic jams.

    Have fun kids

    Thanks for the Jamz Miner

  6. Type III Jamming Personality Disorder Says:

nice! counting the JOTD, it’s like a TTFW. I am the only person on my floor who is here so it looks like I can rock these sans headphones. I will now proceed to entangle the entire area.

“It seems like just about everyone in the country is getting slammed by snow and winter weatherPhish this weekera except the west coast.”

    fixed that for ya… ๐Ÿ˜‰

  7. willowed Says:

Ice storm. Broke my ass walking down the driveway.

    This shit blows

    Is it 2/20 yet?

  8. Type III Jamming Personality Disorder Says:

    @willowed
“Is it 2/20 yet?” sounds like some uber h3tty kid’s call out to his crew. 2/20. it’s the new 420.

hope your ass is okay. wait. that came out wrong.

  9. Type III Jamming Personality Disorder Says:

    @BTB

    LLFA! ๐Ÿ˜†

that right there is freaking funny. nice work, sir. very clever with the “sponsor” patches too. and would there be any more perfect main sponsor for Team Wook than Wonder Bread? I think not.

  10. BTB Says:

Thanks TIII – I wanted to use the term “NASCAR Groundscore” at some point, but couldn’t work it in…oh well.

Storm was overrated in Ohio. Not much to report.

  11. gratefulcub Says:

Loved the Cincy 03 shows. Some of the best times I have ever had at shows. A culmination of a) new phish, b) spent the week before without power in 5 degree weather due to the huge ice storm that put 90% of Lexington KY’s power lines on the ground, and c) a friend reunion with phish

Walking back to the hotel that night with sleet flying sideways was an adventure. Everyone was bundled up with their heads down, miserable. Me and Lucy had our heads up and eyes open. Wow Cincy was pretty that night.

  12. jtran Says:

    Powder fever

    Snowing hard up here

    Enjoy the day folks

  13. kayatosh Says:

ice storm in the philly zone. no school. one cup o coffee down. maybe sneak a little bane before the kids emerge from their TV distraction.

  14. kayatosh Says:

massive destruction of foliage. bushes snapped like toothpicks

  15. kayatosh Says:

    fighting back w/ 7.25.74. loose lucy, blackthroated wind, loser . . .

  16. Mr. Palmer Says:

morning folks. snowed/iced in with the wife and kiddies. Fortunatley wife and I can still make $$ from home. Tough with three small fries running around though.

Popped my ‘noid cherry last night. Have fresh tunes besides miner’s kickdowns. I grabbed the Kevorkian remaster of MPp and the lossless Coral Sky show. Pumped.

    stay safe.

  17. Type III Jamming Personality Disorder Says:

gotta love trey’s quick “1-2-3-4” heading into this YEM. it’s like “ok, we need to get on the beat hurry up LET’S GO!!”

nowadays it’s more like “1…2…3…4… you guys with me now? ok… now we are cooking with gas.”

    @palmer
welcome to the treasure trove. that place is a veritable goldmine.

  18. butterflyeffect Says:

    nicely done @BTB

there has been some talk of Mike’s Song lacking in 3.0

while this mostly seems to be the case, as Jamchester’s biggest fluffer, I invite you to listen to 10.26.10 Mike’s

also, as someone before mentioned, the 10.26.10 Ghost is the progenitor of the 12.31.10 Ghost. please listen, if you so desire

  19. sumodie Says:

storm rages on in western mass…must fly to DC tomorrow morn tho

more shoveling awaits, but first I need to dl & load kp’s Bonus Comp on the pod….I seem to be obsessed with random SBD compilations nowadays

  20. abephroman Says:

    12/17/99 TWIST is the bomb-diggity

  21. halcyon Says:

    Morning folks

While people are getting snowed in, it is -15 outside my office. The office is thin today which means I can listen to all these comps and mixes that have been floating around.

Thanks again Kenny P for the SBD’s, and Miner for the TTFASnowDay.

Sumodie, I have updated my mp3 player featuring nothing but mixes and comps. The digital age is great!

    Stay warm everyone!

  22. Robear Says:

    top of the mornin’ all!

as miner stated, we’re getting pounded by 60 degrees and sunny skies out here.

12/17/99 = contestant for all-time stinker by the band. lulz.

  23. sumodie Says:

12.17.99 – the last time I ever wore contacts to a show due to losing battle with smoke irritation, boo-hoo. Still recall where I was standing on the floor during that Jennifer Dances. Why does my strongest memory of that show have to be JD and itchy eyes?

The next night was a lot more fun. Had a blast camping at Newport News Park nearby (was relatively warm for this New Englander). Camp site already already reserved for this Memorial Day weekend……

  24. mitch Says:

Cold rain and snow for sure. Dog made it one block and pulled me home on the ice. Whew! Least work will be slow.

In other news, DMB made my work playlist. Wonderful. Now I can hear everyday, everyday.

And I work with a DMB fan who has been coming up to me about the tour rumors. Even he thought it was a bad idea.

  25. Mr. Palmer Says:

” And I work with a DMB fan who has been coming up to me about the tour rumors. Even he thought it was a bad idea.”

^^ is his name Neemsbane? ๐Ÿ™‚
