Festival Express

With Super Ball IX on our minds, I figured I’d drop one highlight from each of the previous eight festivals to enjoy throughout your Tuesday.

Harry Hood” 8.16.96 III

The Great Went

The first festival “Hood;” a soaring rendition from the third set of The Clifford Ball.

Wolfman’s > Simple” 8.16.97 II

Two of so many amazing jams at The Great Went.

Ghost” 8.16.98 II

As Summer ’98 came to a close, Phish began weaving in a new style of melodic, ambient jamming—present in this “Ghost”—that would become prevalent throughout the fall. This version is a gorgeous festival highlight that often flies under the radar.

Tweezer -> Have Mercy” 7.17.99 I

This gooey “Tweezer” provided the sunset soundtrack on the first night at Osewgo.

After Midnight Reprise” 12.31.99

Sacred Phish ground from the depths of night at Big Cypress.

46 Days” 8.3.03 II

Post-hiatus abstract psychedelia at its finest.

AC/DC Bag” 8.14.04 II

One of few impressive musical moments at Coventry.

You Enjoy Myself” 10.31.09 III

A climactic version from the third set of a West Coast Halloween.

  2. fat bastard Says:

on a different note to you traders out there… the vxx etf. wtf? volitility index. its a short-term negative carry fund. but if you time it right that shit explodes. see chart.

    i dont have a chart.

  3. fat bastard Says:

thats the type of fund that can blow up the whole economy again. if ya think about it

  4. Mr palmer Says:

Vxx is a good way to hedge yourself if your over exposed to the long side. Good protection. Saved my ass a time or two before.

Back home. Chilling out back with a beer , headphones.

Fb. How were the louisville panic shows?

  5. Spasm Waiter Says:

Hey folks- hogfish is $$$ says capt. Spaz

Leos baked beans killed it for me tonight. Talk of the buffet…

  6. ThePigSong Says:

  7. ThePigSong Says:

fuuck. refreshed the page 14 minutes later.

RedSox drop to 0-5. Good thing I don’t look at the standings until memorial day and by then we’ll be into summer tour. Night games in April in cold weather cities are dumb. More people went to see Charlie Sheen in Cleveland than went to the Indian game last night

  9. Cable Hogue Says:

0-5 is not a pretty start. I had to laugh at Remy et al saying “they’re really pressing now…” just struck me kinda funny that they would be feeling pressure playing in Cleveland in front of 500 fans in April.

Obviously nothing is clicking as yet. I’ll go out on a limb and say the Sox won’t finish at 0-162 though.

  10. Mr palmer Says:

Yankee fans already talkin smack. No team has ever won the WS after starting 0-4. Should be pointed out that no team had come back from an 0-3 deficit in the playoffs before either. Just saying.

  11. butter Says:

in first place or within a few games of first place at the all star break is the goal

plenty of time, but 0-5 isn’t good

  12. garretc Says:

    Oohhh, baseball talk!

Not buggin’ about the Giants yet. The pitchers have shown they can get it done, the offense has come through big a couple times, fielding still a bit lacking, but it just hasn’t all been coming together quite yet.

    I remain optimistic

  13. garretc Says:

Better start looking up recipes for crow if you’re gonna start making predictions like that!

  14. Mr.Miner Says:

we talking Red Sux in here?

  15. Mr.Miner Says:

Palmer..you a Sox fan? Do we have a Sox contingent in here? I may have to add another “wax banks” to this board

  16. plord Says:

Oh Jesus, are we really gonna have 6+ months of baseball talk? Zzzzzzzzzz. Wake me for the early season no-no and I’ll start paying attention when Cliff Lee has more than 12 walks (the imaginary Vegas in my head has the over at July 15, seems like a safe bet).

  17. voopa Says:

Posey’s first HR of the season tonight…here we go!

  18. Mr.Miner Says:

    11/7/98 UIC
    Bag > Ghost
doesn’t get much better than that kids. one of my all time favorites.

    ^ yup. 10000% agreed.

  19. Frankie Says:

I have always had a thing for the 11.9.98 Gin… Fish MVP!

  20. Mr.Miner Says:

That Gin is tha Shizzz! UIC 98 smoked – all 3 nights / 6 sets

  21. Frankie Says:

    Yeah what a run that was… 🙂

I remember having received the tape in the mail and starting it up on my walkman (!) on the morning bus ride that was taking me to school…

When I got there, the jam was in that last ambient section before the Bathtub riff starts up again… I couldn’t believe I was still listening to the same song as when I first got on the bus… Made me fall in love with those deep exploratory jams…

I guess that’s why it has that special place in my heart…

  22. Frankie Says:

And I swear I hear Trey teasing the Redemption Song riff by Bob Marley just before the Gin starts… He could just have been foolin’ around the G chord as well…

  23. Frankie Says:

Didn’t find the UIC Gin in my itunes so I started the Gorge one instead…

    Best 3.0 Gin?

  24. Tzara's Ghost Says:

    @Frankie, is that a rhetorical question? 🙂

  25. Frankie Says:

    🙂 I guess… 🙂

I can’t think of another one that goes through as many sections as the Gorge one though…
