TTFF: Through The Years

12.31.10 (G.Estreich)

This week, Ten Tunes For Friday features one selection from each year between 1993 and 2003. Enjoy the juxtaposition of jamming styles, and hopefully it will take you right into the weekend!

2001 > David Bowie” 11.11.95 II

This combination kicked off the third night at Atlanta’s Fox Theatre, a run that revved up the second half of a marathon Fall Tour.

8.10.10 (G.Lucas)

Mike’s Song” 12.30.93 II

A classic piece of Phish history.

Down with Disease” 12.30.03 II

A passionate version that gets lost in the shuffle of Miami ’03 that features a spine-tingling re-entry into the song’s theme at the end of the jam.

Reba” 8.14.96 I

An eternally underrated show in Hershey ’96 finally began to get its props over a decade after the fact.

Piper” 6.10.00 I

In the band’s second night in Tokyo, this 20-plus minute “Piper” batted third in the first set after a near half-hour “Disease” sparked the show.

Ghost” 11.11.98 I

One of my favorite Fall ’98 “Ghosts” from Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Limb By Limb” 12.3.99 II

This version from Cincy ’99 is far more your average “Limb.”

6.27.10 (G.Lucas)

Split Open and Melt” 12.7.94 I

A shredding first-setter from Spreckels Theatre in San Diego near the end of Fall ’94.

Harry Hood” 11.16.97 II

The night before Denver ’97’s monumental show, Phish dropped this stellar “Hood” towards the end of the second set.

Yeah @palms, that’s the case with a couple of my orders. But my Visa does nice, shiny holds right on my bank statement. Which reminds me:

    Commencing obsessive statement monitoring… now.

  2. cal Says:

Agreed, Monsterpus. Matt Berninger is just a brilliant songwriter and a captivating singer. The band isn’t doing anything that a hundred other bands can’t do just as well, but when they can keep up with Berninger’s energy, it’s a powerful thing.

  3. Mulitbeast Says:

@Cal – Love the National, never seen em live though. Saw Arcade Fire at Red Rocks and they were pretty great, but found LCD Soundsystem (the opener) to be a bit better. How is National live in comparison to Arcade Fire?

any interest in femi kuti at the metro on sat?

  5. Lycanthropist Says:

    morning folks.

hope everyone had a good weekend..

cant wait to dig into Jtrans 98 picks when i get home

  6. Mulitbeast Says:

Me and my ol lady put in our PTBM requests for the Gorge and UIC. Pretty stoked, especially since the Gorge is pretty much a sure thing as far as tix.

  7. Jtran Says:

Did KP include all the tracks I listed? If so that’s a killer mix. I’m listening to those tunes again today myself.

  8. BingosBrother Says:

    11/30/91 HOOD

Somebodys gotta lotto, might as well be you.

  9. Lycanthropist Says:

    Gorge Experts:

This just in, my slf and I will be crusing USA (well, Washington) in a truck with a cab on the back and a mattress. I saw on google maps the nearest Wal Marts are about 50 minutes from the Gorge, one east and one west. Are there any big chain store/grocery store parking lots in Quincy or George that would be similar to a Wal Mart for parking lot camping?

Thinking 139 a night at our hotel in Quincy is a bit much and making other plans.

  11. Mulitbeast Says:

Respinning the TTFF LxL. I like it.

  12. KWL Says:

took me 49 minutes to check my credit card for a hold. i have issues.

jtran (and others) i will likely be looking for a hotel room to split for gorge, with 1 friend

  13. Leo Weaver Says:

@Jtran…Wildhorse Campground was $98 total for 3 nights. They still had about 60 spots left when I booked late last week. There’s a few gas stations with big truck parking lots back in Ellensburg. Also a rest area just west of the river.

re. iaudio 9. comes with usb cable and headphones. I connect it to my home stereo via rca cables, plugs into the headphone jack. charges through usb cable. and plays FLACS!

  15. Tray Anastasio Says:

    @ Mulitbeast

Arcade Fire blows the National (and pretty much every other hipster band) out of the water live

  16. Leo Weaver Says:

@android users…what music players do you guys use to play flacs on your phone? just picked up a thunderbolt…with a 32g card, itching to start filling that sucka up. winamp, poweramp, etc, etc? And do you use the free or full version?

  17. Mulitbeast Says:

@tray – yeah…Arcade bring the enthusiasm to their live shows for sure. Makes the shoe gazing hipster bands seem a bit boring.

  18. snowbank Says:

Jtran – I don’t think there are any big box stores closer than ellensburg. If you are looking for a place to park and sleep, check out Quincy Lakes and Frenchman’s Coulee on my gorge map (linked to my screen name). Quincy Lakes is probably the better bet.

@leo – see you at the wildhorse. it’s gonna be a good time.

  19. roberto luongo Says:

arcade fire was singing the seventh inning stretch at the Cubs game Saturday

couldn’t quite figure out how to throw my air max through the TV to hit those douchers in the head

that dude and chick need to be beaten IMO

    that is all
    have fun kids

    go HAWKS!!!!!

  20. tela'smuff Says:

morning peeps. just popping in to say hello. busy busy.

kwl – i have a hotel room booked, but will be bailing on it to soak in the heat with Leo at the Wildhorse. it’s a holiday inn express in Ellensburg. i’ll probably cancel the reservation about a week in advance, in case it’s 101 out.

leo – i was scouring the rentals in Tahoe last night. can’t decide. if you still have that link i sent you, and have free time, take a look around and see what your think.

  21. kayatosh Says:

back to the nov. 98. 11.28 gumbo and tube — $$.

  22. Mulitbeast Says:

We are looking at Wildhorse very closely as well. The ‘Clamping’ looks cool as well. Any other suggestions on good, chill accomodations in the Gorge area BB?

  23. Jtran Says:

    I’m such a wook.

Rest areas 20 miles/31 minutes east of Gorge

24.5 miles/35 minutes west of Gorge

My new weekend home (I think)

  24. Jtran Says:

I can’t see how it’s worth my 95 dollars to pay to camp in my truck at Wildhorse when I could stay at a rest area for free. I know I’ll miss the post-show stuff, but am I crazy?

  25. goat Says:

what’s up all, anyone have suggestions for audio recording software (freeware or otherwise)?
