Pre-Ball Odds and Ends

6.10.11 (G.Lucas)

Trey In Rolling Stone: In a short but candid interview published in Rolling Stone yesterday, Trey mentioned that Phish will be working on a new album this winter, 2012 will be light on touring, and that he is considering covering Metallica’s “Master of Puppets.” Read the whole piece here!

An interesting excerpt from Trey on the history of Phish festivals:

The festivals grew organically out of our early scene in Vermont. We were always a party band and we used to play outside a lot. People always seemed to show up. I remember a big pig roast at our friend Ian’s farm one summer – everyone came and slept in the field. We did a gig at our friend Amy’s farm in Maine and suddenly it was 5,000 people. Then we went to Plattsburgh and it was 50,000. You have to keep in mind, though, that there were no festivals to speak of when Phish was doing those early ones. I remember hearing about Burning Man, but even that was just getting going in the Nineties. Now there are tons, but it all felt very cutting edge in the mid-Nineties. There was no playbook. We were making it up as we went along.

I wish I thought to get alf before the king. Alas he was quicker on the draw.

Win butler is as much other people as it is me at this point.

I thought of a great one the other day but can’t remember.

  2. Tom Says:

Based on on some twitter pictures it looks like some sort of log cabin/logging town thing is being build

  3. DaNcInG fOoL Says:

    win butler is mitch?

  4. alf Says:

oh, you weren’t around the other day? i’m ned

  5. mitch Says:

I started win butler but was hacked by someone better at computers than I am.

Can’t remember for the life of me. It was gonna be awesome.

  6. DaNcInG fOoL Says:

i just assumed win was AW the whole time

  7. mitch Says:

DF, check the style of win’s writing and youll get it. AW is just wins biggest fan. He’s not on here tonight cause he’s replaying all the highlights from the arcade fire show in chi-town past week or two.

  8. win butler Says:

Win is, Win. Silly Canadien kids m

  9. ThePigSong Says:

went with the Cannon, can’t find the final .psd right now or I’d post it.

I also thought win butler was mitch. I suck at keeping up here.

I figured out Alf faster than BTB though. I guess that is about a 9.9 on the creepy scale.

  10. sumodie Says:

Wait, you mean Alf is not me? Whoah……….

Haven’t mapped out the WG back roads yet, but I’ll certainly have Plans A thru G at the ready

I’m even learning to accept GPS in my life too. Well, I’m thinking about trying to decide if I want to accept the faint possibility of allowing GPS to control my life. Maybe

  11. DaNcInG fOoL Says:

    so win is silly?

  12. mitch Says:

I remember the image pig. You’ll find it’s fun when you get there.

It’s fun also kinda taking a tip from the burning man folks. Giving out trinkets to strangers and friends. Took a brick of bottle opener lighters to bonnaroo one year just to have and give away. Got em cheap on eBay. People loved em.

Sometimes win is me and sometimes win is the real win. He’s kinda awesome at computers and didn’t want someone else using his likeness.

I find keeping up with my multiple personalities in real life a bit of a challenge, cannot imagine branching out to the internetz as well.

  14. ThePigSong Says:

yep, I’ve got 200 koozies, cheap.

It’d be nice to make my 90 bucks back, but in reality that money is long spent. I know once I get there I’ll be tossing these fuckers out left and right.

Only part I’m stressin’ is flying up with my cooler and a three room tent. Everyone I’m going with is flying in, and I’d hate to buy ALL our equipment at the local walmart.

  15. mitch Says:

Ive seen people pack all their crap inside the cooler then check it. Good idea.

  16. ThePigSong Says:

I’m sure it’s been brought up but, Cypress Mikes pwns.

I love the laid back festival style opening tempo.

  17. mitch Says:

I remember reading about cypress mikes when miner first started talking way back about bringing the second jam back. Everyone talked about the red lights. Check the video on YouTube.

  18. ThePigSong Says:

I started this listening/internet sesh with three Sierra Nevada’s thinking that would be ample supply. nope. I guess I can now start looking forward to a cup of coffee in the morning.

    adios kids!

  19. guitarpicker420! Says:

    mitch you back in town?

  20. mitch Says:

I think I’m outta here too. Later dudes and dudettes.

  21. angryjoggerz Says:

Im listening to Cypress Mikes, etc. right now and am blown away. Probably should not have skipped Cypress, but was in a very different place then. Spent my 1999>2000 in a Zen center, ha.

  22. mitch Says:

GP, back in town. Safe and sound on exit 90 of I-65. Just feeling cracked out from stopping percs.

  23. guitarpicker420! Says:

Charlotte is kind of bumping right from jump street. Mike’s could have been longer (2nd jam and all), but the primary jam really goes places, and hydrogen is just jaw droppingly beautiful again, and the paug is groove city.

  24. purplehumpbackwhale Says:

mitch – im back in nyc till wednesday afternoon if u wanna chill before sb9. been a while.

pre-sbix phish fasting is going… alright haha. i find it super difficult to constantly refrain from playing phish. it just adds another element of stuff i hafta think about all the time. i feel like i keep having to come up with entertaining music to pass the time. i almost accidentally started watching the camden ’10 CDT video last night for the anniversary. caught myself.

anyone have suggestions? my go-to’s are MMW, umph, bitches brew, the meters, cake, the breakfast.

but im running out of ideas!

  25. guitarpicker420! Says:

See me, I’m all chilaxed, loaded up on millers and listening to charlotte at seriously loud volume. Life is definitely good right now. These MK41’s are just bumping.
