Pre-Ball Odds and Ends

6.10.11 (G.Lucas)

Trey In Rolling Stone: In a short but candid interview published in Rolling Stone yesterday, Trey mentioned that Phish will be working on a new album this winter, 2012 will be light on touring, and that he is considering covering Metallica’s “Master of Puppets.” Read the whole piece here!

An interesting excerpt from Trey on the history of Phish festivals:

The festivals grew organically out of our early scene in Vermont. We were always a party band and we used to play outside a lot. People always seemed to show up. I remember a big pig roast at our friend Ian’s farm one summer – everyone came and slept in the field. We did a gig at our friend Amy’s farm in Maine and suddenly it was 5,000 people. Then we went to Plattsburgh and it was 50,000. You have to keep in mind, though, that there were no festivals to speak of when Phish was doing those early ones. I remember hearing about Burning Man, but even that was just getting going in the Nineties. Now there are tons, but it all felt very cutting edge in the mid-Nineties. There was no playbook. We were making it up as we went along.

Just waking up from a night of rocking with Dispatch in Boston, after seeing 6 Phish shows this summer, and then seeing that, it really makes you appreciate how lucky we are to have Jon Fishman slaying it for us night in and night out.

  5. mitch Says:

Does Kimchi McGee post on here?

    Great name dude

  6. Phamily Berzerker Says:

Don’t let this happen to your jams

  7. Phamily Berzerker Says:

Mitch will you be at bollywood hole?

  8. mitch Says:

I wouldn’t go to dispatch if I had a free ticket. That’s your first problem.

Anyway, what’s happening today? I’m picking up mom at the air port right now then were getting the pooch and road tripping it back to naptown.

    “I’m going back to Indiana”

  9. mitch Says:

If I heal up I’ll be at the shitty shed @Pham b

    @SillyWilly

“of all the reasons not to be touring a new album and “family obligations” are probably the best”

^This is when things like Island Tour happen. For some reason, I feel like we all need to rule out halloween and possibly even NYE. It’s ok though, by the time leg II is done, we will have so much incredible tape it wont even matter. I held myself off with Summer ’10 highlights all the way from 1/1/11 to Bethel, I think I can do 7-8 months with Summer ’11 highlgihts.

    Airport

And hbowl I guess isn’t really a shed.

  12. marcoesq Says:

Anyone have a good sounding copy of 07.25.97 in Dallas w/ Bob G?

Wanna hear that drums segment with some good sound

  13. DryIceFactory Says:

I bet we get a short run of Hampton->Nassau->TD Garden in April after all the guys finish up their solo tours.

  14. marcoesq Says:

Yeah, my 23 year old neighbor just got back from Red Rocks just seeing Dispatch

Kid has a huge Phish sticker on his car and he’s always acting all jealous how we go see them and he cant afford to, yet he’s tripping out to Morrison to catch Dispatch

    Go figger

  15. Phamily Berzerker Says:

drink water. most americans are chronically dehydrated. Some BBer are dechronicated.

Water will help you heal sooner. Drink up.

Palmer, if you are reading this, you too.

New Years in Miami. Count on it. Morning lad’s.

  17. Phamily Berzerker Says:

    yeah marco I do?

I loved that show. both tx shows in 97 were great, but get overlooked for any number of reasons

  18. marcoesq Says:

you have it uploaded somewhere to share?

  19. [Not Tom] Says:

They’ve only been playing approximately 50 shows per year since they returned, and this year will be less. Trza’s comment in the RS article sure does make it sound like 2012 will be just a handful for the whole year. I could see them laying off after NYE until August of next year and only doing about 15 dates, followed by about 15 shows in the fall, plus a NYE run. better enjoy the rest of this summer, ’cause it sounds like things are about to start slowing down a little bit.

Still, hopefully Trey will seek the safety of the jam more than ^.

  20. Fly Says:

@PB Truth. I’m tired (dehydrated). I need coffee (diuretic).

  21. Jtran Says:

    Went DWD

  22. marcoesq Says:

I think once they start feeling more comfortable and laying out 25min jams on the reg this summer their view may change on that.

He kind of contradicts himself in that article, yeah they have family obligations but he said the downtime of not playing is what kills him.

  23. butter Says:

    For playlisters

    Charlotte Stealin Time
My fav version. Wanna know how he could play Master of Puppets? Listen to the soloing in this Stealin time. Sick.

  24. marcoesq Says:

I would much prefer Master of Puppets over Beach House.

Good friend’s wife and her friend grew up with Alex from Beach House. Hope that doesnt start influencing his play more

  25. DryIceFactory Says:

    @Marco

    Big time contradictions.

    @ALL
And in my defense, I paid $10 for my dispatch ticket and I live within walking distance of the garden. it seemed better than my normal Friday night shenanigans.
