negev, speak for yourself! At 42 I’m still not old -maybe when I’m 80 😀

But 19 years following a band is kind of a long time I suppose

been writing our wedding ceremony. as someone who hates weddings, why did i think it would be a good idea to write one? fuck.

alf, writing one’s own wedding vows is the only way to go, IMO. I’m confident you’ll do an excellent job. Just omit words like ‘fuck’ though

  2. tela'smuff Says:

Ramblin, of course it’s all a matter of opinion, but there is no comparison for me between the two versions of Simple you mention. SBIX is best ever type level for me.

just read back. great stuff Silly and others. Silly, looking forward to expanding minds together!

  3. RamblinMind Says:

I loved the Greek shows at the time, but that was one of our first glimpses into that kind of jamming. Maybe it will look tiny next to SBIX. Haven’t listened to Greek Simple in a long time

  4. SillyWilly Says:

Yo, BK, if you want to read some cool philosophy/theory that’s a little more modern, but sort of tied to the Hegelian tradition, check out: Dialectic of Enlightenment by Theodor Adorno and Max Horkheimer.

in fact, you can’t really go wrong with anything by the Frankfurt School thinkers. The Frankfurt School is made up of mostly germans. Some of them are jewish and experienced the Holocaust directly and some of them come from middle class german backgrounds. Some of them are still alive. Jurgen Habermas, I think is still alive.

But they’re re-thinking western civilization after WWII.

i don’t always agree with all of their ideas, but in my mind it’s one of the most worthwhile systems of theory. I mean, shouldn’t we be trying to come up with systems of thought that avoid another world war and holocaust?

  5. SillyWilly Says:

im looking forward to it, too, Telas.

good night everyone. big monday on the horizon.

  6. Tzara's Ghost Says:

I don’t know, @ramblin’, I hope not. The Greek jams are in a completely different mode than superballix IMO, so can stand separately. Both are very, very valid though and I’m glad I don’t have to choose one. Watkins 3 I think has more overall highlights though.

Just can’t let go of Greek Simple, and especially Light yet.

  7. butter Says:

its the dance of life, silly

and what better place to celebrate it, than at a Phish show

also dont walk thru life with blinders on thinking the only place to find it, is at Phish shows

peel back those layers and look around, its everywhere

  8. DaNcInG fOoL Says:

you’ll never have to let go of greek simple and light; they’re all time classics, and will hold up forever

  9. sumodie Says:

knockin’ on that ‘Twist’? That’s just crazy talk, IMO. Especially in that slot. Super slick, creative, locked. Goes inside out a couple times. Then the vocal outro > psych out> 2001? If I get that a few times a year, sign me up.

sbix twist is likely my fav 3.0 version -loved MSG’s of course but this one went deeper for me

    ‘What! What?’

however this is in fact FACT: Golden age through Tweezer is the goodz.

  10. Tzara's Ghost Says:

That’s a relief, DF. I don’t plan on lasting that long myself, so I should be OK. What happens after that has been discussed extensively today.

  11. Mr.Miner Says:

can anyone tell me why 6/4 gets so much love from people (not necc BB) when 6/3 and 6/5 were far superior shows?

Sally and Steam and…what else…and don’t say Harry Have Mercy Hood, bc whatever with that imo…

  12. Mr.Miner Says:

yeah, put me in the “bored with Twist” camp…

  13. DaNcInG fOoL Says:

    piper>lizards

  14. Mr.Miner Says:

I need to do a side by side comparison of SBIX Simple and the Greek Simple

    ^ diff beasts all together

  15. Mr.Miner Says:

    piper > lizards…fair enough…not my thing

  16. BrandonKayda Says:

6/3 was fantastic obv. I haven’t heard 6/5 yet but 6/4 was pretty damn good

  17. BrandonKayda Says:

    Mainly for the Sally, though

  18. DaNcInG fOoL Says:

love that piper, and not a huge lizards fan but that version worked perfectly and was perfectly played…i think i like the blossom second set more than cinci, obv no competition with detroit though

  19. DaNcInG fOoL Says:

and yeah that hood was meh, it had so much potential

  20. BingosBrother Says:

6/4 Sally, shreddiest 0 ever, Slave encore

1st set BOTT > Guelah Tube Antelope

    For me

    6/3
    6/4
    6/5

  21. Tzara's Ghost Says:

Alright, better revisit SBIX simple. Here we go.

  22. DaNcInG fOoL Says:

cinci did probably have the best 1st set of all of them though

  23. DukeOfLizards Says:

Anyone that thinks that 6/3 is not the best of those three shows is out of their tree.

6/4 and 6/5 are both excellent and picking one over the other is a matter of personal preference, IMO.

(Emphasis on IMO, having not been at any of them)

  24. DukeOfLizards Says:

That’s a relief, DF. I don’t plan on lasting that long myself, so I should be OK. What happens after that has been discussed extensively today.

Tzara’s really adding some elegance to the Philosophy -> Dorkery segue.

    Well played, sir.

  25. Tzara's Ghost Says:

Thanks, @duke. I was slightly outgunned in both phases of the segue, but I’ll take elegance any day. High praise for me. Kind of like this Simple at sunset, which is where I’m at now.
