First listen back of Gorge 2. Nothing like a big open air “Tweezer” with twilight silhouette of the Columbia Gorge.

  2. voopa Says:

I think the only reason the did play the Bowl was because the could take their gear directly from the Gorge to Tahoe. Better than no show tho, and still glad I made the trip. Just wish I could’ve done the Gorge too. That RNR>Boogie segment alone would’ve been worth it, and left many with expectations for the Cali shows that went mostly unfulfilled…oh well. I can still have fun, even at the “worst” shows of tour.

And Robear, notice that there are stacks on either side of the screens too. Still nothing like the real deal. No complaints about the sound where I was, guess you had to be up a bit.

  3. Robear Says:

Agree Miner, slick ass ‘Julius’. Like you said, more laid back.

    Lycan and Miner,
I came around a bit on Bollywood Hole. Sounds better on listen back.

/wrong headspace, no bass at show.

  4. albert walker Says:

agree 100% the Gorge RnR is the hottest piece of music since the return

I’ll be the first to admit that post the buttery ass and funky meatstick the rest of the show doesn’t come off on tape to me but after a jam like that they all could have just taken a nap on stage and it wouldn’t have mattered.

that jam stings to have missed. modern Phish at it’s best.

  5. Lycanthropist Says:

I can understand bad sound taking you out of the show Robear..

Glad you can dig into it now..

Some really solid shit going on in that show.

  6. Robear Says:

Voop-star, I don’t think those were on. That show was just so far, and so fast.

Rewarding phans for the skip show seems to be fading. Where was our Boise ‘Bag’ type treat?

  7. albert walker Says:

    damn last page emergency

miner almost gave props to a julius. almost.

  8. Robear Says:

Lycan, I couldn’t put my finger on it……until I walked into the Tahoe soundcheck. It hit me like a 15″ subwoofer to the chest.

Gorge ‘Tweezer’ is crunchy, raw, sickness. Can’t listen to our other ‘Tweezer Head’ on this one.

  9. albert walker Says:

I’m spinning LA set 1 now. not to be negative but this has to be one of the most dull sets in a long time.

besides the 4 minute tube, parts of Split I guess this shit doesn’t really do much.

Backwards closer probably the highlight but even that is pretty tame

set II def has it’s moments though

  10. Robear Says:

AW, such a bad first set, IMO. Go ahead and say so. Had me wishing I was home with my kids. Seriously. 4 min ‘Tube’ and Rockin ‘Gbott’ not enough to save day. Least Interesting ‘Split’ to my ears that I’ve heard.

Outro did sound better on tape than live. How bad does a ‘Split’ have to be to follow it up with ‘#line’?

  11. Lycanthropist Says:

Yeh I love the Tweezer sandwich

  12. birds Says:

The sleeper tune of the gorge I feel was the Sand>tweez. Trey is off the charts on that Sand!

  13. Lycanthropist Says:

listening to UIC 3 set 2 in its full for the first time

just got to the Tweez jam…

6 30 in and boy are they in some tasty grooves.

  14. Robear Says:

Have to ask, how can you not dig on this Gorge ‘Tweezer’?

  15. Robear Says:

    Don’t blink @ Lycan.

  16. Lycanthropist Says:

kinda surprised people were so upset about this Tweezer..

I dont think it got cut at all

  17. PBS Says:

I felt like the bluesy soundcheck on day one came through really clearly in the Gorge shows. A part of the patient, laid back playing we’re used to hearing from the band at that venue. Feeling pretty privileged to have caught those two as they were my only shows this year.

  18. albert walker Says:

I’m the opposite of the OPT guy. I don’t even like discussing shows I wasn’t in the room for. the tapes mean nothing.

but I’m going to give gorge 2 another spin today. I remember digging the Sand but the tweezer not so much. gonna give it another shit.

for Sands from this summer the UIC is the one for me. love the more jazzless gooey stylee

  19. win butler Says:

Best part of Gorge ‘Tweezer’ was the landing pad into ‘Caspian’. Such an unpredictable move by Trey.

  20. Lycanthropist Says:

I mean it could have been longer I suppose..

but just cause they get to space doesn’t mean they have to ride it out everytime.

They were definitely at a move on or go waaaay deep crossroads… but I don’t think it got chopped in the middle of anything particularly mind blowing.

  21. PBS Says:

Gorge Tweez jam begins with that growling “uncompressed” Trey. How can it not be loved?

  22. Lycanthropist Says:

that makes it difficult for us who weren’t there to have an opinion though… 😉

  23. albert walker Says:

I loved the tweezer lycan. I thought the sharp plinko toned peak was brilliant. it just had a quick feeling to it that can be weird during a tweezer

like it came and went real fast

I thought the song structure itself and the breaks had the extra energy of recent versions

2 more minutes just to let us relax was all that needed

but generally musically I thought it was pretty original and very well played

my only real complains are the golgi and the jamless ghost. still had a blast

  24. bob dylan Says:

spinning gorge rnr now that i’m home with speakers blasting in my face and a fresh bubbler.

  25. Lycanthropist Says:

funny enough, I DO think the Caspian was cut short… wasn’t given enough time to be interesting enough to be played.
