I can certainly see how this messy golgi after the downtime might be a bit of water on the fire. at this point in the set though I think the heavy lifting is done and the show is already pretty good. Of course of course of course it doesn’t stand up to the nights before. Did I make that clear?

  2. Robear Says:

Sumo, is there a market for GA Dix Tix?

  3. Robear Says:

“UIC ‘Light’ is a clunker, and UIC night 3 really works.”

No wonder I love you cOw! Who doesn’t need to lol at least once per day.

::can’t believe I took cOws bait::

  4. c0wfunk Says:

    teehee trolling successful 😉

UIC 3 is all about the whole set .. light is a bit of deconstruction. The real non-song magic doesn’t happen until waves -> undermind -> steam .. sand >light >dirt is the prelude for me. Night 3 works in reverse.

the still waiting in char0 lovin it. Yeah I do think this set works.

  5. c0wfunk Says:

you may notice a pattern. Chaotic phish is not necessarily my favorite. I enjoy melody. ymmv

  6. Robear Says:

cOw, I’m going to spin that night three second set again then. I didn’t think much of it the first spin. Whereas, night one and night two, I couldn’t walk away from. Even as my daily chores stacked up around me.

  7. Robear Says:

    Now you’re kidding right?

The magic starts during Wolfman’s. By the time ‘Sand’ opened the second set, it was like a phuckin Hogwarts Convention in that place.

  8. Esteban Says:

I relistened to UIC 3 yesterday, and set II does work. It’s just not what was expected as Tweezer and Ghost came out of the gate following the first two nights’ path. It’s fun Phish!

  9. Esteban Says:

No reason though to cut down that Ghost after only three minutes…

  10. c0wfunk Says:

sorry rob I have only listened to set 1 once, need to revisit. I heard it the first time while late night working.

Relistened to set 2 the other night and it’s one of my favorites of all time, for sure. Top shelf, amazing phish unattached to any song or moment, just a pure hose from start to finish. So I shoulda said UIC1 II above.

Definitely not the same thing going on UIC3, it’s a more spotty set 100%. Wrapping up antelope now and digging it. Fun Phish it is, as Esteban says.

But what really works is UIC as a whole. The 3 shows complement each other and show 3 very different types of phish. In context each fits just about perfectly, for me.

  11. c0wfunk Says:

yah esteban that’s certainly hasty and sounded hasty. letting that 3 minutes of ghost overshadow the rest of the set would be a mistake however, imo. Funny thing is, if ghost had never happened, even those 3 minutes, and they had run straight into maki at that point, I bet a lot of perspectives would be quite different. Gotta shake off those Trey pranks and roll with the moment.

  12. Kdub Says:

Was wondering if anyone who is missing some shows in 3.0 would be willing to do some exchanging? Let me know and we can exchange emails.

  13. Robear Says:

Agreed on the three pack @ cOw. Reverse the order of the nights, and we’d have nothing to discuss. It feels weird that they blew such a huge wad night one, a secondary bust night two, then cuddle time night three. Cuddling is fun.

never got to peak in after UIC3 as I’m on a little vacation with friends and family. seems like a lot of people are hating on this show hard. my take…

First off, I would have killed to be at that show. “What it is!” not what it isnt.

This show happens in 2009, or June 2010, everyone is going nuts. guaranteed. frontloaded set 2 with a “fun” closing sequence and encore.

if you are a jamhead and “expect” the band to jam every night, than you are more than likely going to be let down on a regular basis. if you are a newb and want to hear heavy hitting singles every night, than you are also going to be let down more often than not. Expectations kids, expectations.

  15. Robear Says:

DryIce, pay your lost bet to WW and go back on vacation. No one is hating on anything here.

  16. roberto luongo Says:

I still loved night 3. any show you get Gin, Tweezer, and even a botched Ghost is all good with me

    nice little trifecta there.

  17. c0wfunk Says:

the main thing I hear on night 1 especially, and then again particularly during Dw/d is a sense of patience and “got nowhere to go” (sorry listening to funky and mike just wrote my script lol) .. night 3 is much more rushed.. but still chock full of creativity.

Tweezer is really nicely varied and not your typical tweezer thing at all. The gasp from the crowd when Trey kicks the fuckerpants is audible and he very attentively drives straight into the piper goodness without delay to get the hook back in.

  18. DryIceFactory Says:

not tp say that newbs are the only ones who like the heavy-hitting singles over jamming. but you get the idea…

  19. c0wfunk Says:

not hating. But a sense of disappointment was palpable. So yeah expectations are the thing there.

  20. Robear Says:

Spinning night 3, starting with ‘Gin’.

  21. DryIceFactory Says:

it was never made. do have to give props to AW for even offering “Bathtub, Tweezer and Ghost” as a trifecta for the night. I knew to not bite.

  22. DryIceFactory Says:

And I’m not pegging you guys as the haters, I read back a bit before hitting this thread.

  23. c0wfunk Says:

    on a completely different note..

Show of life: is this the first time Trey (tom/dudeoflife/etc) has written the lyric “mmm hmmmm uhhhhh huuuhhhh” into a song? I think that makes this a fully official monster ballad.

  24. Robear Says:

I’ll say this again. If you know Phish, you can go to a show without expectations, and still be a bit disappointed.

  25. DryIceFactory Says:

I’m sure there’s one thing we can all agree on…

Mike for MVP of the run.
